2019’s much talked about film “Joker” starring Joaquin Phoenix is officially coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray and Blu-ray Disc on January 7th via Warner. The film, directed by Todd Phillips, co-stars Robert De Niro, Zazie Beetz, Frances Conroy, Brett Cullen, and Marc Maron. Tech specs for the 4K UHD Blu-ray release include 2160p video in the 1.85:1 aspect ratio with HDR10 and Dolby Vision forms of High Dynamic Range as well as Dolby Atmos sound. The tech specs for the Blu-ray Disc release include 1080p HD video in the 1.85:1 aspect with Dolby Atmos sound. Both releases will come in the form of a “combo pack” with the 4K getting its Blu-ray Disc counterpart, the Blu-ray getting the DVD, and each getting a digital code (copy) of the film included. It’s also worth noting that there will be an exclusive SteelBook 4K UHD Blu-ray release of the film available over at retailer Best Buy (pictured below) which is now available for preorder.

Burbank, CA, December 2 – Directed, co-written and produced by Oscar nominee, Todd Phillips, “Joker” stars Joaquin Phoenix in this character study of a man struggling to find his way in Gotham City’s fractured society.

“Joker” will be available on 4K, Blu-ray Combo Pack and DVD. The Blu-ray Combo Pack features a Blu-ray disc with the film and special features in hi-definition, a DVD with the film in standard definition and a Digital version of the movie.

The 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray disc of “Joker” will feature Dolby Vision^TM HDR that dramatically expands the color palette and contrast range and uses dynamic metadata to automatically optimize the picture for every screen, frame by frame.

The Ultra HD Blu-ray disc of “Joker” will feature a Dolby Atmos® soundtrack remixed specifically for the home theater environment to place and move audio anywhere in the room, including overhead. To experience Dolby Atmos at home, a Dolby Atmos enabled AV receiver and additional speakers are required, or a Dolby Atmos enabled sound bar; however, Dolby Atmos soundtracks are also fully backward compatible with traditional audio configurations and legacy home entertainment equipment.

“Joker” will also be available on Movies Anywhere. Using the free Movies Anywhere app and website, consumers can access all their eligible movies by connecting their Movies Anywhere account with their participating digital retailer accounts.

Fans can also own “Joker” via purchase from digital retailers beginning December 17.

 

ABOUT THE FILM

Forever alone in a crowd, Arthur Fleck (Joaquin Phoenix) longs for any light to shine on him.  Trying his hand as a stand-up comic, he finds the joke always seems to be on him. Caught in a cyclical existence between apathy and cruelty and, ultimately, betrayal, Arthur makes one bad decision after another that brings about a chain reaction of escalating events.

Three-time Oscar nominee Phoenix (“The Master,” “Walk the Line,” “Gladiator”) stars in the titular role alongside Oscar winner Robert De Niro (“Raging Bull,” “The Godfather: Part II”). Phillips directed the film from a screenplay he co-wrote with Oscar-nominated writer Scott Silver (“The Fighter”), based on characters from DC. The film was produced by Phillips and Oscar nominee Bradley Cooper under their Joint Effort banner, and Oscar nominee Emma Tillinger Koskoff. Serving as executive producers were Michael E. Uslan, Walter Hamada, Aaron L. Gilbert, Joseph Garner, Richard Baratta and Bruce Berman.

Phillips’s behind-the-scenes team included director of photography Lawrence Sher (“Godzilla: King of the Monsters,” “The Hangover” trilogy), production designer Mark Friedberg (“If Beale Street Could Talk,” “Selma”), editor Jeff Groth (“War Dogs,” “The Hangover Part III”) and Oscar-winning costume designer Mark Bridges (“Phantom Thread,” “The Artist”).
