1994 film Speed gets both 4K standard and SteelBook in May

The 1994 film “Speed” will officially be coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray on May 4th via 20th Century Studios (Disney). The film, directed by Jan de Bont, starred Keanu ReevesDennis Hopper, and Sandra Bullock. The tech specs for the release include a 2160p presentation in the 2.39:1 aspect ratio with HDR10 form of high dynamic range and Dolby Atmos sound. The release will come in the form of a “combo pack” meaning that it will come with the Blu-ray Disc counterpart and a digital copy of the film.

UPDATE: You can now find the 4K UHD Blu-ray available for preorder over at retailers Best Buy and Target.

The tech specs for the 4K release include a 2160p presentation in the 1.85:1 aspect ratio with HDR10 form of High Dynamic Range and DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 surround sound on a BD-100 disc. The release will come in the form of a “combo pack” meaning that it’ll include its Blu-ray Disc counterpart and a digital code (copy) of the film. You can now find the standard 4K UHD Blu-ray release available for preorder over at Amazon.

It’s most certainly worth noting that, it appears, an exclusive 4K UHD Blu-ray SteelBook release of the film will be available over at retailer Best Buy (pictured below) on the same date. The Birds is getting a standard 4K and SteelBook in May

The 1963 classic film “The Birds” directed by Alfred Hitchcock will be getting both an individual standard 4K UHD Blu-ray release (pictured above) and a 4K UHD Blu-ray SteelBook release (pictured below) on May 25th via Universal Studios Home Entertainment, according to retailers. The tech specs for the 4K release include a video presentation in the 1.85:1 aspect ratio with HDR10 form of high dynamic range and the original Mono in a lossless DTS-HD Master Audio 2.0 sound mix.

This film itself was previously released on the 4K format last September as a part of a Hitchcock-themed 4K set. Hitchcock’s 1963 film starred Rod TaylorTippi HedrenJessica Tandy, and Suzanne Pleshette. Both the standard and the new 4K SteelBook will come in the form of a “combo pack” meaning they’ll include the Blu-ray Disc counterpart as well as a digital code (copy) of the film.

UPDATE: You can now find the standard 4K UHD Blu-ray listed as available for preorder over at Amazon, as well as over at the retailer Target. Dirty Dancing gets 4K SteelBook release as Best Buy exclusive

The 1987 film “Dirty Dancing” will be getting an exclusive 4K UHD Blu-ray SteelBook release over at retailer Best Buy on April 27th, via Lionsgate. First off, let me state that this will mark the 4K physical debut of the film and it (as mentioned) will be exclusive to only that retailer and that no “standard” release on 4K UHD Blu-ray is at this time planned — it would seem. The film, directed by Emile Ardolino, starred Patrick SwayzeJennifer Grey, Jerry Orbach, Cynthia Rhodes, Jack Weston, Jane Brucker, and Kelly Bishop. The tech specs for the 4K release have yet to be officially detailed by the studio (Lionsgate) but stay tuned for an update on that.

You can find the 4K UHD Blu-ray SteelBook available for preorder over at Best Buy, where it as of today states “[Only @ Best Buy]” in its description — confirming its exclusivity to that retailer. There’s also no word yet on the bonus materials set to be included with the release, but it is known (from the artwork, pictured here) that the release will come in the form of a “combo pack” meaning that it will include its Blu-ray Disc counterpart and a digital code (copy) of the film. The tech specs for the 4K UHD Blu-ray include a 4K presentation in the 2.39:1 aspect ratio with HDR10, Dolby Vision, and HDR10+ forms of high dynamic range and Dolby Atmos sound. Pixar film Soul on 4K UHD Blu-ray and Blu-ray in March

The 2020 Pixar film “Soul” is coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray and Blu-ray Disc on March 23rd via Disney according to Home Media Magazine. The film, directed by Pete Docter and co-directed by Kemp Powers, features the voice talents of Jamie FoxxTina FeyGraham Norton, Rachel House, Alice Braga, Richard Ayoade, Phylicia Rashad, Donnell Rawlings, Questlove, and Angela Bassett. The tech specs for the release have yet to be detailed, but you should expect a 4K presentation with HDR10 and a Dolby Atmos sound mix. It is known that the releases will both come in the form of a “combo pack” meaning that the 4K UHD Blu-ray will include its Blu-ray counterpart, the Blu-ray will include its DVD counterpart, and each will come with a digital code (copy) of the film.
