Amazon Commissions EarnedThe 1970 film “The Bird with the Crystal Plumage” is officially coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray in a limited edition release on June 29th via Arrow Video. The film, written & directed by Dario Argento, starred Tony Musante, Suzy Kendall, Enrico Maria Salerno, Eva Renzi, Umberto Raho, and Renato Romano.
This movie has received a new 4K restoration. The tech specs for the release include a 2160p 4K presentation in the 2.35:1 aspect ratio with HDR10 and Dolby Vision forms of high dynamic range and restored original English and Italian Mono sound mixes, presumably in DTS-HD Master Audio — including optional English subtitles.

Amazon Commissions EarnedThe 2004 horror film “Saw” — in its UNRATED form — will be getting a 4K UHD Blu-ray release on May 11th via Lionsgate, according to retailers. The film, directed by James Wan, starred Cary Elwes, Danny Glover, Monica Potter, Shawnee Smith, Ken Leung, Dina Meyer, and Leigh Whannell. Tech specs for the release have not yet been detailed, nor have the bonus materials for the release but stay tuned for an update. The release will come in the form of a “combo pack” meaning that it will include the Blu-ray Disc counterpart as well as a digital code (copy) of the film.
UPDATES: The release date actually appears it will be May 11th, as noted, and not the week before as one retailer had been indicating. As of now, you can find the 4K UHD Blu-ray available for preorder over at Amazon.
UPDATE: There officially will be a 4K UHD Blu-ray SteelBook available for this release (pictured below) that will come as a retailer exclusive over at Best Buy.

Three films that were written by John Hughes will be getting limited edition Blu-ray Disc SteelBook releases on June 8th via Paramount Home Entertainment. These films include:
Two of these films, those from 1986, are celebrating their 35th anniversary with these releases. One of these films (Some Kind of Wonderful) has previously only been available on the Blu-ray Disc format via a “5-Movie Collection” — released earlier this year. Each film as a Blu-ray SteelBook (pictured above) is now available to preorder over at Amazon via the links in the titles above or below. The full tech specs are listed below according to each film.
“Ferris Bueller’s Day Off” will be in 1080p HD presented in the 2.35:1 aspect ratio with Dolby TrueHD 5.1 surround sound. “Pretty in Pink” will be from the new remastered 4K scan in 1080p HD presented in the 1.78:1 aspect ratio with DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 surround sound. And, finally, “Some Kind of Wonderful” will be in 1080p HD presented in the 1.78:1 aspect ratio with Dolby TrueHD 5.1 surround sound. Each film will come with a digital code (copy) of the film. Amazon Commissions EarnedThe classic 1959 western “Last Train from Gun Hill” is coming to Blu-ray Disc on June 15th via Paramount Presents. The film, which will be spine number 18 in the series, was directed by John Sturges and was shot in the VistaVision cinematographic process. The movie starred Kirk Douglas, Anthony Quinn, Carolyn Jones, Earl Holliman, and Brad Dexter. The tech specs for the release have yet to be fully detailed but it is known that this has received a new 6K scan and been remastered by the studio (Paramount), as stated below.

This film, which will be spine number 17 in the series, was directed by Frank Perry and is based on the abusive relationship between actress Joan Crawford and her daughter Christina Crawford — who wrote the book it is based on. It co-starred Diana Scarwid, Steve Forrest, Howard Da Silva, and Rutanya Alda. The tech specs for the release have not yet been detailed but it is known that this release has received a new 4K scan and restoration. Stay tuned for an update regarding the specifics for the aspect ratio and audio format hopefully soon in an update. This Blu-ray release will come with a digital copy of the film. The film, based on stories and characters written by Hans Christian Andersen, was directed by Jules Bass and written/produced by Arthur Rankin, Jr. (of Rankin/Bass). The Daydreamer featured the voice talents of Tallulah Bankhead, Victor Borge, Patty Duke, Jack Gilford, Sessue Hayakawa, Margaret Hamilton, Hayley Mills, Ed Wynn, Burl Ives, and Boris Karloff. The film, directed and co-written by Mark Rosman, starred Kathryn McNeil (AKA Kate McNeil) and Eileen Davidson. The tech specs for this Blu-ray release of the film include a 1080p HD video presentation in the 1.78:1 aspect ratio with Uncompressed LPCM (Linear PCM) 2.0 Stereo sound. There also will be a “second, alternate version of the film with director approved pre-credit sequence with mono audio” according to promotional material.

It’s certainly worth noting that the film has been previously released on the Blu-ray format stateside back in 2014 but has since been OOP (out of print), and it even apparently received a UK Blu-ray release that is also seemingly OOP. So, this new release on Blu-ray will be welcomed by those who never got the chance to own those previously mentioned versions of this cult-classic.
