The 2018 Tim Wardle directed, critically-acclaimed, documentary “Three Identical Strangers“ is coming to Blu-ray Disc on October 2nd via Universal. The documentary tells the unique story of three identical twins that were separated at birth. They never even knew they had biological siblings, let alone identical twins of themselves out there. The three men were all adopted, and would later find out of being separated at birth. This film is “Certified Fresh” over at Rotten Tomatoes, where it carries an impressive 97% rating.
Tech specs for the release include full 1080p HD video in the 1.85:1 aspect ratio, while audio format and configuration have not yet been detailed. Stay tuned for an update there on the audio specs. The film on Blu-ray is now already available to PRE-ORDER over at Amazon and Best Buy. NOTE: The artwork (pictured above) was taken from retailer Best Buy, although Amazon features slightly different artwork. The studio hasn’t official released finalized art on the press site, so I’m not sure which (if either) will be the final art. Just letting you all know that, in case you notice and wonder. The 2018 film “The First Purge“ is not only coming to 4K and Blu-ray (as reported) but it’s also going to be getting an Exclusive Steelbook 4K UHD Blu-ray release over at Best Buy. The Steelbook version, and other version of the film will be available on October 2nd, via Universal. “The First Purge“ 4K Steelbook is available for PRE-ORDER now over at Best Buy.
It’s also worth noting (as mentioned in my previous post) that the other three films in this franchise will also be getting Exclusive Steelbooks of their 4K UHD Blu-ray releases at Best Buy on the same date (10/2). Those Steelbooks for those films can be found linked to below by title for their pre-order listings (slightly more affordable, priced at under $20 each).
The 1982 John Carpenter directed film “The Thing” starring Kurt Russell is coming to Blu-ray Disc in a Limited Edition Steelbook release on November 6th via Scream Factory (Shout! Factory) in collaboration with Universal Studios. The release, set to span across a 3-disc set, will include both an all-new 4K scan of the film on the first disc, as well as a 2K scan of the interpostive approved by the Director of Photography. Tech specs include full 1080p HD video in the 1.85:1 aspect ratio for both scans of the film. The audio (at least on the 2K scan) will come in two options: a 4.1 mix “Created From The Original 70MM Six Track Dolby Stereo Soundtrack” and a 5.1 mix, with likely both being presented in DTS-HD Master Audio. I’d expect the 4K scan will get a 5.1 mix – although it has not yet been detailed.
This new Blu-ray Disc Steelbook is not yet available for pre-order over at Amazon or Best Buy, but stay tuned for an update. However, it is available to PRE-ORDER directly from Shout! Factory‘s shop, where they’re including a FREE bonus 28.5″ X 16.5″ rolled litograph poster – to the first 1,500 customers who order. The 3-disc set (as mentioned) will include two versions of the film from two different scans, and those scans are detailed a bit below after the break.
