Respect with Jennifer Hudson on Blu-ray November

The 2021 film Respect starring Jennifer Hudson is officially coming to Blu-ray Disc on November 9th, via Universal Studios Home Entertainment. The film, a biopic about the late singer Aretha Franklin, was directed by Liesl Tommy, and co-stars Forest Whitaker, Marlon Wayans, Tituss Burgess, Audra McDonald, and Marc Maron.

The tech specs for the Blu-ray include a 1080p HD video presentation in the 2.39:1 aspect ratio with Dolby Atmos sound on a BD-50 disc. The release will come in the form of a “combo pack” meaning that it will come with its DVD counterpart as well as a digital code (copy) of the film. The 2021 film “Old” is officially coming to both 4K UHD Blu-ray and Blu-ray Disc on October 19th via Universal Studios Home Entertainment. The film, written & directed by M. Night Shyamalan, stars Gael García Bernal, Vicky Krieps, Rufus Sewell, Alex Wolff, Thomasin McKenzie, Abbey Lee, Nikki Amuka-Bird, Ken Leung, Eliza Scanlen, Aaron Pierre, Embeth Davidtz, and Emun Elliott.

The tech specs for the 4K release include a 2160p video presentation in the 2.39:1 aspect ratio with HDR10 form of high dynamic range and Dolby Atmos sound, on a BD-100 disc. Woody Woodpecker Collection on Blu-ray in September

The Woody Woodpecker Screwball Collection is coming to Blu-ray Disc on September 7th, via Universal Studios Home Entertainment, according to retailers. This set will include 25 original theatrical animated shorts, which all have been newly remastered, as noted below in the product description.

“Relive the hilarious, crazy adventures of Woody Woodpecker, everyone’s favorite wacky red-headed bird, in The Woody Woodpecker Screwball Collection! Created by renowned cartoonist Walter Lantz, these 25 original theatrical cartoons showcase some of the wildest antics in animation history. Newly remastered in high definition, Woody is joined by his friends including Andy Panda, Wally Walrus and Buzz Buzzard. Featuring rare treasures including archival behind-the-scenes footage of Walter Lantz, this side-splitting collection will keep fans laughing out loud time and time again!”

F9 The Fast Saga on 4K and Blu-ray in September

The 2021 sequel “F9: The Fast Saga” is officially coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray and Blu-ray Disc on September 21st via Universal Studios Home Entertainment. The film, the latest in the “Fast and the Furious” franchise, directed by Justin Lin, stars Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Chris ‘Ludacris’ Bridges, John Cena, Nathalie Emmanuel, Jordana Brewster, Sung Kang, Helen Mirren, Kurt Russell, and Charlize Theron. Both the 4K and Blu-ray releases will include 2 versions of the film: The Director’s Cut (149 minutes, NOT RATED) and the Theatrical Cut (142 minutes, PG-13).

1993 film Carlito’s Way with Al Pacino on 4K in October

According to multiple retailers, the 1993 film “Carlito’s Way” is coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray on October 12th via Universal Studios Home Entertainment. The film, directed by Brian De Palma, starred Al Pacino, Sean Penn, Penelope Ann Miller, John Leguizamo, Ingrid Rogers, Luis Guzmán, and Viggo Mortensen.

There will be a standard 4K UHD Blu-ray release (pictured above) available everywhere and an exclusive 4K UHD Blu-ray SteelBook over at the retailer Best Buy (pictured below).

You can now find the standard 4K UHD Blu-ray available for preorder over at Amazon and the 4K SteelBook available for preorder over at retailer Best Buy. The tech specs for the release include a 2160p 4K presentation in the original 2.39:1 aspect ratio with HDR10 and HDR10+ forms of high dynamic range as well as DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 lossless surround sound. The release will come in the form of a “combo pack” meaning that it will come with the Blu-ray Disc counterpart and a digital code (copy) of the film, compatible with Movies Anywhere.

Universal Classic Monsters are coming to 4K in October

There will officially be a Universal Classic Monsters: Icons of Horror Collection coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray on October 5th via Universal Studios Home Entertainment. This set comes just in time for Halloween. Four of the most iconic of the Universal Classic Monsters will be making their debut to 4K, with two celebrating their film’s 90th anniversaries and one celebrating its 80th anniversary. The films included in this set are as follows:

  • “Dracula” (1931) 90th Anniversary
  • “Frankenstein” (1931) 90th Anniversary
  • “The Invisible Man” (1933)
  • “The Wolf Man” (1941) 80th Anniversary

This set will come in a collectible boxed booklet form (as pictured below) with a page for each film in both the 4K and Blu-ray versions on each side.

Each of the four films will be presented in 2160p 4K resolution in the 1.33:1 (full frame) aspect ratio with HDR10 form of high dynamic range and (presumably Mono) DTS-HD Master Audio lossless sound mixes. This set will come in the form of a “combo pack” meaning that each film will get its Blu-ray Disc counterpart (in 1080p HD) and digital code (copies) of each will be included as well.
