2003 Tim Burton directed film Big Fish comes to 4K in May

The 2003 film “Big Fish” directed by Tim Burton is officially coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray on May 4th via Sony Pictures Home Entertainment. The film, based on the novel by Daniel Wallace, starred Ewan McGregorAlbert FinneyBilly Crudup, Jessica Lange, Helena Bonham Carter, Alison Lohman, Missi Pyle, Steve Buscemi, and Danny DeVito. This movie has received a new 4K remaster from the original camera negative. The tech specs for the 4K UHD Blu-ray release include a 2160p presentation in the original 1.85:1 aspect ratio with HDR10 form of high dynamic range and Dolby Atmos sound as well as the original 5.1 lossless theatrical sound mix (in DTS-HD Master Audio). The release will come in the form of a “combo pack” meaning that it will include its Blu-ray Disc counterpart and a digital code (copy) of the film. UPDATE: You can now find the 4K UHD Blu-ray listed as available for preorder over at Amazon. The bonus materials set to be included with the release are listed below.

“Monsters University” is coming to 4K in March

The 2013 Pixar computer-animated film Monsters University is coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray on March 3rd, via Disney, according to retailers. The film, a prequel to “Monsters, Inc.” and directed by Dan Scanlon, featured the voice talents of Billy CrystalJohn GoodmanSteve Buscemi, Joel Murray, Peter Sohn, Helen Mirren, Sean Hayes, Dave Foley, Charlie Day, Tyler Labine, Nathan Fillion, Aubrey Plaza, and Alfred Molina. Tech specs for the 4K and bonus materials for the release have not yet been detailed but stay tuned for a possible update. It’s very likely the release will come with the HDR10 form of High Dynamic Range and Dolby Atmos sound – but that’s just speculation based on previous releases. The release will come in the form of a “combo pack” with the Blu-ray Disc counterpart and bonus disc included as well as a digital code (copy) of the film. “The Dead Don’t Die” on Blu-ray in September

The 2019 Jim Jarmusch film The Dead Don’t Die is coming to Blu-ray Disc on September 10th via Universal, according to early retailer alerts. The film, a comedy involving zombies, features an all-star cast of Bill MurrayAdam Driver, Tilda Swinton, Chloë Sevigny, Steve Buscemi, Danny Glover, Rosie PerezCarol KaneIggy Pop, Sara DriverRZA, Selena Gomez, and Tom Waits. Tech specs and bonus materials have not yet been detailed but stay tuned for an update. It is known that the release will come with a digital copy of the film. You can already find the Blu-ray available for pre-order over at Amazon and is listed over at retailer Best Buy (with release date). Lastly, sadly there does not appear to be a 4K physical release of this film planned.

Mini-series Lonesome Dove on Blu-ray Steelbook July

The 1989 TV mini-series Lonesome Dove is getting a Special Edition Blu-ray Disc Steelbook release on July 9th via Mill Creek Entertainment. The mini-series featured an extraordinary cast of Robert DuvallTommy Lee JonesDanny Glover, Diane Lane, Robert Urich, Frederic Forrest, D.B. Sweeney, Ricky Schroder, Anjelica Huston, Chris Cooper, Barry Corbin, Barry Tubb, and Steve Buscemi. The tech specs for the new Blu-ray will be identical to the 2015 release, including 1080p video in the 1.78:1 aspect ratio and Dolby Digital 5.1 sound. This new Special Edition Blu-ray Steelbook is not yet available to pre-order but there is a placeholder page over at Amazon. A digital copy of the mini-series will be included with the Blu-ray. “The Big Lebowski 20th Anniversary Limited Edition” on 4K UHD Bluray

Universal has finally unveiled the official photos and details for that “Limited Edition” box set of “The Big Lebowski” on 4K UHD Blu-ray, and it’s quite the sight to behold. The Dude would abide. The set will include (as pictured above) a collectible bag, a bowling ball pencil holder, a polishing cloth (rug) and sweater packaging (to hold the 4K release). The Big Lebowski 20th Anniversary Limited Edition set, slated for an October 16th release, is now available for PRE-ORDER over at Amazon – priced more affordably than you’d expect. Go have a look for yourself, and see.

Tech specs for the 4K UHD Blu-ray releases include full 2160p 4K video in the 1.85:1 aspect ratio with HDR10 form of High Dynamic Range and DTS: X sound. No new bonus materials are slated to be included on either this version, or the standard 4K UHD Blu-ray release.
