Adam Sandler film Billy Madison on 4K in July

The 1995 comedy Billy Madison starring Adam Sandler comes to 4K UHD Blu-ray on July 29th via KL Studio Classics. Tamra Davis directed the film, which Adam Sandler co-wrote and produced. The movie has received a new master from a new 4K scan of the 35mm original camera negative. Audio will be presented in lossless DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 surround and 2.0 stereo configurations. The release will come as a “combo pack” with its Blu-ray counterpart included. The tech specs for the Blu-ray include a 1080p HD video presentation in a 1.85:1 aspect ratio with DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 and 2.0 sound.

Both will be released on April 29th via KL Studio Classics. Gary Fleder directed the movie. Desperado is getting a standard 4K in March

The 1995 film “Desperado” will get an standard 4K UHD Blu-ray release on March 25th via Arrow Video. The film was written & directed by Robert Rodriguez. It starred Antonio Banderas, Salma Hayek, Steve Buscemi, Joaquim de Almeida, Cheech Marin, Quentin Tarantino, and Danny Trejo.

The movie has received a 4K restoration from the original camera negative by Sony Pictures. The 4K tech specs include a 2160p video presentation in the 1.85:1 aspect ratio with Dolby Vision (or HDR10) form of high dynamic range and DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 lossless surround and 2.0 Stereo sound.

NOTE: This is not the first time the film has been available on the 4K UHD Blu-ray format. It was previously released included in a 4K UHD Blu-ray SteelBook. It was also part of a Blu-ray box set with “The Mexico Trilogy” in August of 2024.

Transformers One comes to 4K and Blu-ray in December

The 2024 animated film “Transformers One” is officially slated for releases on 4K UHD Blu-ray, 4K UHD Blu-ray SteelBook, and Blu-ray Disc on December 17th via Paramount Home Media Distribution. The film, produced by Michael Bay and directed by Josh Cooley, features the voice talents of Chris Hemsworth, Brian Tyree Henry, Scarlett Johansson, Keegan-Michael Key, Steve Buscemi, Laurence Fishburne, and Jon Hamm. It’s certainly worth noting that this film is “Certified Fresh” (by critics) and “Verified Hot” (by audiences) on Rotten Tomatoes.

The tech specs for the 4K and Blu-ray have not yet been fully detailed, but it is known that the 4K release will include a 2160p video presentation in the 2.39:1 aspect ratio with Dolby Vision and HDR10 high dynamic range. The Blu-ray will be presented in a 1080p HD video presentation in 2.39:1 aspect ratio. Both releases will very likely include Dolby Atmos sound, however, that’s still yet to be fully confirmed. The 4K releases will come as a “combo pack” with the Blu-ray counterpart.

Each of the 4K and Blu-ray releases will include a digital copy. The 4K UHD Blu-ray and 4K UHD Blu-ray SteelBook are now available for preorder at Amazon. However, there is not a preorder listing yet for the Blu-ray on Amazon. Also, you can find the 4K UHD Blu-ray and 4K UHD Blu-ray SteelBook available for preorder at retailer Walmart, again with no Blu-ray listing yet available, but stay tuned for an update.

It’s also worth noting that there will be a release of Robert Rodriguez‘s “Mexico Trilogy” as a 4K UHD Blu-ray / Blu-ray box set on the same day [8/27] via Arrow Video (pictured above). That includes the films “El Mariachi” (1992), “Desperado” (1995), and “Once Upon A Time in Mexico” (2003). Sadly, only the 1995 film “Desperado” will be presented in 4K resolution with the 1992 and 2003 films will only be receiving Blu-ray Disc treatment in 1080p HD video quality and uncompressed Stereo 2.0 and DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 lossless surround sound. You can find the “Mexico Trilogy” box set available for preorder directly via Arrow Video, on Amazon, and at retailer Walmart.

John Carpenter’s Escape from L.A. on 4K in February

The 1996 John Carpenter film Escape from L.A. starring Kurt Russell is officially coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray on February 22nd, 2022 via Paramount Home Entertainment. The film, sequel to “Escape from New York” (1981), co-starred Steve Buscemi, Peter Fonda, Pam Grier, Stacy Keach, Cliff Robertson, A.J. Langer, and Bruce Campbell.

The tech specs for the 4K release include a 2160p video presentation in the 2.39:1 aspect ratio with HDR10 and Dolby Vision forms of high dynamic range and DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 lossless surround sound.
