Saw II, III, & IV get 4K SteelBooks in October

Commissions Earned

The films Saw II (2005), Saw III (2006), and Saw IV (2007) are getting 4K UHD Blu-ray SteelBook releases on October 28th via Lionsgate. These will be exclusive to Amazon. Darren Lynn Bousman directed all three of these movies in the “Saw” franchise.

The tech specs for the release include 2160p video presentations in the 1.85:1 aspect ratio, featuring Dolby Vision (or HDR10) high dynamic range and Dolby Atmos sound. NOTE: These are all the theatrical versions of the film, and not the UNRATED cuts or Director’s Cut. This has already upset some fans of the franchise, and I’m unsure what the strategy behind this move was. Each release will come as a “combo pack” with its Blu-ray Disc counterpart and a digital copy of the film included.

UPDATED: You can now find Saw II“, Saw III, and Saw IV 4K UHD Blu-ray SteelBooks, exclusively available for preorder at Amazon. The bonus materials set to be included with these releases are detailed further below, after the break.

But I’m a Cheerleader on 4K SteelBook in August

Commissions Earned

The 1999 film But I’m A Cheerleader will be coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray SteelBook on August 26th via Lionsgate. This release of the Director’s Cut of the movie will be an Amazon exclusive. Jamie Babbit directed and co-wrote this motion picture. It starred Natasha Lyonne, Clea DuVall, RuPaul Charles, Cathy Moriarty, and Mink Stole.

The tech specs for the 4K release have not yet been fully detailed, but you can expect a 2160p video presentation in a 1.85:1 aspect ratio with likely HDR10 and possibly Dolby Vision form of high dynamic range. The audio codec and configuration have yet to be announced, but if the 2021 Blu-ray was any indication, you perhaps may only get a 2.0 Stereo mix (possibly in Dolby Digital). The release will include a digital copy of the Director’s Cut of the film. The bonus materials have yet to be detailed, however (again) if the 2021 Blu-ray is any indication of what to expect, you should get these ported over.

  • Audio Commentary with Director Jamie Babbit, Costume Designer Alix Friedberg, and Production Designer Rachel Kamerman
  • But I’m a Cheerleader Class Reunion
  • Making But I’m a Cheerleader… in 1999
  • But I’m a Composer… A Chat with Pat Irwin
  • Student Film: Discharge

The 4K UHD Blu-ray SteelBook is an Amazon exclusive, as noted, and is now available for preorder. Below, you can find a further glimpse of the packaging.
