The original 1995 Japanese animated (anime) film “Ghost in the Shell” is coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray on September 8th, via Lionsgate, according to multiple retail sources. The film was directed by Mamoru Oshii and based on the manga (of the same title). This is believed to be both the English 5.1 surround mix and original Japanese 2.0 Stereo mix, in terms of sound. No official word yet on the tech specs or bonus materials, but stay tuned for when it gets a press release, final artwork, and such. In the meantime, speaking of which, it’s worth noting that this lacks that confirmation and still should be considered somewhat a RUMOR for the time being. You can now find the 4K UHD Blu-ray listed for preorder over at retailer Target. The 4K UHD Blu-ray release is also listed, but not yet as a functional preorder, over at retailer HD Movie Source — where it shows the same expected release date (9/8).

Rumor has it that the 2000 Darren Aronofsky film “Requiem for a Dream“ is coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray on May 12th, via Lionsgate, according to multiple retailers. The film, based on the novel written by Hubert Selby Jr. & nominated for an Academy Award (Oscar), starred Ellen Burstyn, Jared Leto, Jennifer Connelly, and Marlon Wayans. Tech specs for the release seem to actually already be known (according to online retailer HD Movie Source), with 4K video in the original intended 1.85:1 aspect ratio with HDR10 form of High Dynamic Range and DTS-HD Master Audio 7.1 sound on a BD-66 (66-gigabyte disc). The release appears to also be a 2-disc set making it a “combo pack” with a Blu-ray Disc also included along with the previous bonus materials from the “Director’s Cut” released in 2009. This should likely be the director’s cut of the film, as it’s listed as UNRATED, and there’s no word yet if it will include a digital code (copy) of the film until it gets some cover artwork and/or officially announced. Currently, there’s no preorder listing for the film available over at Amazon but stay tuned for an update on that. However, you can find the 4K UHD Blu-ray already listed for preorder, with the 5/12 release date, over at retailer Target and the online retailer mentioned above as well as over at Deep Discount. So that’s three sources I’ve found pointing that this is slated to be coming out on the date mentioned and likely with the tech specs discussed above as well. We shall soon see.
EDITOR NOTE: Now, as always I want to emphasize that this is what I would still consider a “rumor” until it gets officially announced (confirmed). So, take it with a slight grain of salt and sorry Lionsgate, I’m just reporting the news here. Stumbling across a scoop and not going with it is crazy for such a cult-classic like this. Once again, stay tuned.
