The 1981 film Stripes on 4K SteelBook in April

The 1981 film “Stripes” will be coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray SteelBook on April 29th via Sony Pictures Home Entertainment. The film was directed by the late Ivan Reitman. It starred Bill Murray, Harold Ramis, Warren Oates, P.J. Soles, and John Candy. This release includes both the theatrical version and extended cut of the movie.

The movie has been restored from the original camera negative. The tech specs for this release include a 2160p video presentation in the 1.85:1 aspect ratio with Dolby Vision (or HDR10) and Dolby Atmos, DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 surround and 2.0 Mono sound. The lossless Mono will only be included with the theatrical version. The release will come as a “combo pack” with its Blu-ray Disc counterpart. Also, a digital copy of the film (compatible with Movies Anywhere) will be included.

NOTE: This film had been released on the 4K format before. It was part of the “Columbia Classics: 4K Ultra HD Collection: Volume 2” from 2021. This will be the first time the film has had an individual 4K release, outside of that box set. It also will be the first time a 4K physical media release has contained Dolby Vision. The 2021 release only had HDR10 form of high dynamic range.

1963 film Donovan’s Reef comes to 4K in April

The 1963 film “Donovan’s Reef” is coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray on April 15th via KL Studio Classics. The film was directed by John Ford. It starred John Wayne, Lee Marvin, and Jack Warden. The film also featured Cesar Romero, Dorothy Lamour, and Elizabeth Allen. Additionally, Dick Foran, Marcel Dalio, Mike Mazurki, and Edgar Buchanan were part of the cast.

The movie has received a new master from a 4K scan of the 35mm original camera negative. The tech specs for the 4K include a 2160p video presentation in the 1.85:1 aspect ratio with Dolby Vision (or HDR10) and audio has yet to be announced. Stay tuned for an update regarding the audio. It will come on a BD-100 disc. The release will come as a “combo pack” with its Blu-ray Disc counterpart included.

It’s also worth noting. There will be a Blu-ray Disc Special Edition released on April 15th. This will also be via KL Studio Classics. The 2020 film “The Hunt” is coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray on April 22nd via Scream Factory. The film, directed by Craig Zobel, was co-written by Nick Cuse and Damon Lindelof. It starred Betty Gilpin, Hilary Swank, Ike Barinholtz, Ethan Suplee, Emma Roberts, Wayne Duvall, and Glenn Howerton.

Disney’s Moana 2 on 4K and Blu-ray in March

The 2024 film “Moana 2” is coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray SteelBook and Blu-ray Disc on March 18th via Disney. The film was co-directed by David G. Derrick Jr., Jason Hand, and Dana Ledoux Miller. The voice cast includes Auli’i Cravalho, Dwayne Johnson , Hualalai Chung, Rose Matafeo, Alan Tudyk, and Jemaine Clement.

The tech specs for the 4K release include a 2160p video presentation in the 2.00:1 aspect ratio with HDR10 form of high dynamic range and Dolby Atmos sound, on a BD-66 disc. Tech specs for the Blu-ray include a 1080p HD video presentation in the 2.00:1 aspect ratio and DTS-HD Master Audio 7.1 lossless surround sound, on a BD-50 disc. The 2025 film “Wolf Man” is coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray and Blu-ray Disc on March 18th. These releases will come via Universal Studios Home Entertainment. The film was directed and co-written by Leigh Whannell and it was produced by Jason Blum (of Blumhouse). The film stars Christopher Abbott, Julia Garner, and Sam Jaeger.

The tech specs for the 4K include a 2160p video presentation in the 2.39:1 aspect ratio with HDR10 form of high dynamic range and Dolby Atmos sound, on a BD-66 disc. Tech specs for the Blu-ray include a 1080p HD video presentation in the 2.39:1 aspect ratio and Dolby Atmos sound, on a BD-50 disc.
