Godzilla: King of the Monsters 4K and Blu-ray

The 2019 film “Godzilla: King of the Monsters” is officially coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray and Blu-ray Disc on August 27th via Warner. The film, directed by Michael Dougherty, stars Kyle Chandler, Vera Farmiga, Millie Bobby Brown, Thomas Middleditch, and Ken Watanabe. Tech specs for the 4K release include 2160p video in the 2.39:1 aspect ratio with HDR10, HDR10+, and Dolby Vision forms of High Dynamic Range as well as Dolby Atmos sound. NOTE: This is the first 4K title Warner has released with the HDR10+ form of HDR – as discussed HERE by John Archer of Forbes. The technical specifications for the Blu-ray include 1080p HD video in the 2.39:1 aspect ratio and presumably the same Dolby Atmos sound? The press release didn’t mention but feel free to inform me if that’s not the case. Both releases will come in the form of a “combo pack” with the 4K getting a Blu-ray, the Blu-ray getting a DVD, and both receiving a digital code (digital copy) of the film. Both the 4K UHD Blu-ray and Blu-ray are now available to pre-order over at Amazon. Bonus materials set to be included on the two released are listed below.

Charlie’s Angels (2000) comes to 4K October

The 2000 film adaptation of “Charlie’s Angels“ is officially coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray on October 22nd via Sony. The film, based on the TV series of the same title and directed by McG, starred Cameron Diaz, Drew Barrymore, Lucy Lui, Bill Murray, Sam Rockwell, Tim Curry, Kelly Lynch, John Forsythe, Crispin Glover, LL Cool J, Tom Green, and Luke Wilson. Tech specs for the 4K (although vague in the press release) would seem to include 2160p video in the 2.39:1 aspect ratio from a new scan with the HDR10 form of High Dynamic Range along with Dolby Atmos sound and even the original DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 mix.

UPDATE: You can now find the 4K UHD Blu-ray available for pre-order over at Amazon. The 4K release will come in the form of a “combo pack” meaning that you will also get a Blu-ray Disc and a digital copy of the film included. The 2019 direct-to-video film “DOOM: Annihilation“ is coming to Blu-ray Disc on October 1st via Universal. This film, based on the video game series (“DOOM“), was both written and directed by Tony Giglio. The cast for this includes Amy Manson, Louis Mandylor, Nina Bergman, Dominic Mafham, Luke Allen-Gale, Amer Chadha-Patel, and Kate Nichols. Tech specs for the release have not yet been detailed, nor have bonus materials, but stay tuned for a later update on all of that. It is known from the artwork (pictured above) that the release will come in the form of a “combo pack” with a DVD and digital code (digital copy) of the film included. The show, as seen on AMC, stars Daniel Wu, Aramis Knight, Emily Beecham, Orla Brady, Sherman Augustus, and Babou Ceesay. Tech specs for the Blu-ray release include 1080p HD video in the 1.78:1 aspect ratio with Dolby TrueHD 5.1 sound. The release will include a digital copy of the third season of the show. The Omen Collection Deluxe Edition on Blu-ray

“The Omen Collection [Deluxe Edition]“ is coming to Blu-ray Disc as a 5-disc set on October 15th via Scream Factory. This set features the five films “The Omen” (1976), “Damien: Omen II” (1978), “The Final Conflict” (1981), “Omen IV: The Awakening” (1991), and the remake “The Omen” (2006). There are no specific details yet regarding tech specs for the films but stay tuned for an update. It is however definitely worth noting that the first film in this set (“The Omen” original from 1976) will come with a new video transfer from a new 4K remaster. The other four films have not been said to have received new transfers, but they still could as details will be announced at a later point this year. That said, bonus materials are currently “in progress” so you will have to wait to hear what those are specifically, as well.
