DC’s Titans Season 3 comes to Blu-ray in October

The TV series DC’s Titans: The Complete Third Season is officially coming to Blu-ray Disc on October 25th via Warner Bros. Home Entertainment.  The show, as seen on HBO Max, stars Brenton Thwaites, Mame-Anna Diop, Teagan Croft, Ryan Potter, Curran Walters, Conor Leslie, Damaris Lewis, Joshua Orpin, Savannah Welch, Alan Ritchson, and Minka Kelly.

The tech specs for the release include a 1080p HD video presentation with a lossless 5.1 surround sound mix, presumably in DTS-HD Master Audio although not yet confirmed.  The release will include a digital code (copy) of the third season.  You cannot yet find the Blu-ray of the third season available for preorder over at Amazon yet but there is a placeholder page up.  So, just keep checking back to that link and it should go live soon.  The bonus materials set the be included with the release are listed below.

1982 film E.T. gets 40th Anniversary 4K and Blu-ray

The 1982 film E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial will officially celebrate its 40th Anniversary on 4K UHD Blu-ray and Blu-ray Disc with a re-release on October 18th via Universal Studios Home Entertainment.  The film, directed by Steven Spielberg, starred Henry Thomas, Dee Wallace, Drew Barrymore, Peter Coyote, Robert MacNaughton, and C. Thomas Howell.

Tech specs for the 4K UHD Blu-ray include a 2160p video presentation in the 1.85:1 aspect ratio with HDR10 form of high dynamic range and DTS:X immersive sound.  The tech specs for the new Blu-ray include a 1080p HD video presentation in the 1.85:1 aspect ratio and DTS:X sound.  Both releases will come in the form of a “combo pack” with the 4K getting its Blu-ray counterpart, the Blu-ray getting its DVD counterpart, and each including a digital code (copy) of the film.

E.T. getting 40th Anniversary exclusive 4K releases

There will be some retailer-exclusive releases of the 1982 film “E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial” to celebrate the 40th Anniversary on 4K UHD Blu-ray later this year.  The film, directed by Steven Spielberg, starred Henry Thomas, Dee Wallace, Drew Barrymore, Peter Coyote, Robert MacNaughton, and C. Thomas Howell.  It’s most certainly worth noting that this film is currently back in select theaters to celebrate its 40th anniversary.

No word on if this release will feature anything new in terms of a video transfer or different audio mix but it is likely just a re-release of the original 2017 4K UHD Blu-ray.  That featured a 2160p video presentation in the 1.85:1 aspect ratio with HDR10 form of high dynamic range and DTS:X immersive sound on a BD-66 disc.  These releases are going to be coming in the form of a “combo pack” with the Blu-ray counterpart included as well as a digital code (copy) of the film with each.

So, the 4K UHD Blu-ray retailer exclusives for this release range in release date and I’ll note that for each.  First off, you have an Amazon-exclusive 4K UHD Blu-ray 40th Anniversary Edition Gift Set (pictured above and below).  That includes a collectible tin tote (lunchbox), thermos, booklet & certificate of authenticity.  This is going to be released on November 1st and you can now find that 4K Gift Set available for preorder now over at Amazon.

Next, you have a 4K UHD Blu-ray 40th Anniversary Limited Edition SteelBook release which seems to be exclusive to retailer Target, said to be coming October 18th (pictured further above and below).  That SteelBook is now available for preorder, again, over at Target.

Finally, you will get a 4K UHD Blu-ray 40th Anniversary Limited Edition release with a BendyFig figurine over at retailer Walmart (pictured much further above and below).  This release is said to be coming on October 18th and is now available for preorder over at Walmart.

Spike Lee film Malcolm X on Criterion 4K and Blu-ray

The 1992 biopic “Malcolm X” is officially coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray and Blu-ray via The Criterion Collection on November 22nd.  The film, directed, produced, and co-written by Spike Lee, starred Denzel Washington (in the lead role) as well as Angela Bassett, Delroy Lindo, Al Freeman Jr., Albert Hall, Theresa Randle, Kate Vernon, and the film’s director himself Spike Lee.  It’s most certainly worth noting that this film was nominated for two Academy Awards, including “Best Actor in a Leading Role” for Denzel Washington.

The movie has received a new 4K digital restoration supervised by cinematographer Ernest Dickerson.  The tech specs for the 4K UHD Blu-ray release include a 2160p video presentation in the 1.85:1 aspect ratio with HDR10 and Dolby Vision forms of high dynamic range as well as a DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 lossless surround sound mix.  Tech specs for the Blu-ray include a 1080p HD video presentation in the 1.85:1 aspect ratio and DTS-HD MA 5.1 sound.  The 4K release will come in the form of a “combo pack” with it including both the film Blu-ray counterpart as well as a Blu-ray bonus disc, in a 3-disc set.  Whereas the Blu-ray release will be a 2-disc set with an extra disc for the bonus materials.

The Power of the Dog gets Criterion 4K and Blu-ray

The 2021 film “The Power of the Dog” is officially coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray and Blu-ray Disc on November 8th via The Criterion Collection.  The film (as seen on Netflix), directed and adapted to screenplay by Jane Campion, stars Benedict Cumberbatch, Jesse Plemons, Kodi Smit-McPhee, and Kirsten Dunst.  It’s certainly worth noting that, at the time of writing, this film is “Certified Fresh” over at Rotten Tomatoes.

The movie has received a 4K DI (digital intermediate) master which was approved by the director (Jane Campion).  The tech specs for the 4K UHD Blu-ray release include a 2160p video presentation in the 2.28:1 aspect ratio with HDR10 or Dolby Vision forms of high dynamic range and Dolby Atmos sound.  Tech specs for the Blu-ray include a 1080p HD video presentation in the 2.28:1 aspect ratio with Dolby Atmos sound.  The 4K UHD Blu-ray release will come in the form of a “combo pack” meaning it will be a 2-disc set with its Blu-ray counterpart.

Top Gun Maverick lands on 4K and Blu-ray November

The 2022 sequel “Top Gun: Maverick” is officially coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray and Blu-ray Disc on November 1st via Paramount Home Entertainment.  The film, directed by Joseph Kosinski, stars Tom Cruise, Val Kilmer, Miles Teller, Jennifer Connelly, Bashir Salahuddin, Charles Parnell, Monica Barbaro, Lewis Pullman, Jay Ellis, and Jon Hamm.  It’s currently “Certified Fresh” over at Rotten Tomatoes and has set records at the box office.  The film will be remaining in theaters for a short bit before its digital and then physical releases.

The tech specs for the 4K UHD Blu-ray include a 2160p video presentation in the 2.39:1 aspect ratio (shifting to 1.78:1 aspect ratio for IMAX scenes) with HDR10 and Dolby Vision forms of high dynamic range and Dolby Atmos sound.  Tech specs for the Blu-ray include a 1080p HD video presentation in the 2.39:1 aspect ratio (shifting to 1.78:1 aspect ratio for IMAX scenes) and Dolby Atmos sound.  Both releases each include a digital code (copy) of the film.  However, the 4K version will not include its Blu-ray counterpart.  Keep that in mind.  That’s how Paramount likes to do things.

Aqua Teen Forever Plantasm comes to 4K and Blu-ray

The 2022 [adult swim] R-rated animated film “Aqua Teen Forever: Plantasm” is officially coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray and Blu-ray Disc on November 8th via Warner Bros. Home Entertainment.  The film, based on the popular TV series “Aqua Teen Hunger Force” and its other titles, was co-written and co-directed by the show’s creators Matt Maiellaro and Dave Willis.  The voice cast includes Carey Means as “Frylock,” Dana Snyder as “Master Shake,” and [co-creator] Dave Willis as “Meatwad.”
