Popeye The Sailor: The 1940s Vol. 2 Blu-ray in June

More of the classic colored cartoon theatrical shorts of “Popeye The Sailor: The 1940s Volume 2“ are coming to Blu-ray Disc on June 18th via Warner Archive. Tech specs for the release include full 1080p HD video in the 1.37:1 aspect ratio and DTS-HD Master Audio 2.0 sound. All of the shorts have been remastered in 4K from the original camera negatives. The 15 shorts set to be included on the release are as follows:

Site News: Reviewer Brandon Cortez joins the staff

Brandon Cortez – A longtime movie collector and student of film since seeing Predator as a kid, I’ve been involved in consumer electronics for 2 decades which I do till this day. Current favorite genres are sci-fi, action and anime films. Self-admitted obsession with Dolby Vision and Atmos.

2003 film Hulk with Eric Bana comes to 4K in July

The 2003 Ang Lee-directed film “Hulk“ starring Eric Bana is officially coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray on July 9th via Universal. The film featured a score by Danny Elfman, and was not part of the “Marvel Cinematic Universe” but it was based on the Marvel Comics character – created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby. Hulk featured a supporting cast comprised of Jennifer Connelly, Sam Elliott, Nick Nolte, and Josh Lucas. There also were even cameos by Lou Ferrigno and the late Stan Lee in the film both as security guards.

Tech specs for the 4K release include 2160p video in the 1.85:1 aspect ratio with HDR10 form of High Dynamic Range and DTS:X sound on a BD-100 (100 gigabytes) disc. The release will come in the form of a “combo pack” with a Blu-ray and a digital copy of the film (compatible with Movies Anywhere) included. You can find the 4K UHD Blu-ray now available for pre-order over at Amazon and Walmart. There is no word yet of any retailer exclusives coming for this release. Disney 2015 live-action Cinderella on 4K in June

The 2015 live-action adaptation of “Cinderella“ is officially coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray on June 25th via Disney. The film, directed by Kenneth Branagh, featured a cast of Lily James, Cate Blanchett, Richard Madden, Helena Bonham Carter, Nonso Anozie, and Stellan Skarsgard. Tech specs for the 4K release include 2160p video in the 2.39:1 aspect ratio with HDR10 form of High Dynamic Range and Dolby Atmos sound. The 4K UHD Blu-ray is now available for pre-order over at Amazon, Best Buy, and Target. The 4K release will come in the form of a “combo pack” with a Blu-ray Disc included as well as a digital copy of the film. Retailer Best Buy will be getting an Exclusive 4K Steelbook release for the film which you can find available for pre-order and pictured below.

Alita: Battle Angel comes to 4K and Blu-ray in July

The 2019 film “Alita: Battle Angel” is coming to both 4K UHD Blu-ray and Blu-ray Disc on July 23rd via Fox. The film, directed by Robert Rodriguez and produced by James Cameron, features a cast of Rosa Salazar, Christoph Waltz, Jennifer Connelly, Mahershala Ali, and Jackie Earle Haley.

The tech specs for the 4K release include 2160p video in the 2.39:1 aspect ratio with Dolby Vision, HDR10 and HDR10+ forms of High Dynamic Range and Dolby Atmos sound. Tech specs for the Blu-ray (and the Blu-ray 3D) include 1080p video in the 2.39:1 aspect ratio with DTS-HD Master Audio 7.1 sound. I repeat, the Blu-ray 3D will only get DTS-HD MA 7.1 audio on it instead of the Dolby Atmos found on the 4K, which is a tad bit disappointing to some of my readers, including even myself. The 4K release will come with a Blu-ray 3D of the film (as seen on the cover art, above). The two releases will come in the form of a “combo pack” with the 4K getting both Blu-ray 3D and Blu-ray, the Blu-ray will get a DVD, and a digital copy of the film will be present on both. The 4K UHD Blu-ray and the Blu-ray are both available for pre-order now over at Amazon and at Best Buy. There will be a 4K Steelbook Exclusive to retailer Best Buy which is now available for pre-order (pictured below).

The film, based on the Stephen King novel, was directed by Kevin Kölsch and Dennis Widmyer, and it features a cast of Jason Clarke, Amy Seimetz, John Lithgow, and Jeté Laurence. Tech specs for the 4K release include 2160p video with HDR10 form of High Dynamic Range and Dolby Atmos sound. Tech specs for the Blu-ray include 1080p video and Dolby Atmos sound. Both releases will come in the form of a “combo pack” with the 4K getting a Blu-ray, the Blu-ray getting a DVD, and a digital copy of the film included on each. The 4K UHD Blu-ray and Blu-ray are both now available for pre-order over at Amazon and Best Buy. 1986 Rob Reiner film Stand By Me on 4K in August

The 1986 Rob Reiner directed film “Stand By Me“ is officially coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray on August 27th via Sony. The film, based on a Stephen King novella (“The Body”), starred Wil Wheaton, River Phoenix, Corey Feldman, Jerry O’Connell, Kiefer Sutherland, and featured Richard Dreyfuss as the narrator (“The Writer”). Tech specs for the release include newly 4K scanned video from the original camera negative with HDR10 form of High Dynamic Range and Dolby Atmos sound, along with lossless 5.1 and original theatrical Mono. The release will come in the form of a “combo pack” with a both a Blu-ray included as well as a digital copy of the film.
