BREAKING: It has just been announced via the 2020 San Diego Comic-Con at Home panel that the “Bugs Bunny 80th Anniversary Collection“Blu-ray box set is officially coming November 3rd, via Warner. The 3-disc Limited Edition box set includes a total of 60 cartoon shorts featuring Bugs. 20 of the shorts have previously been released in the form they are in here, while 40 of the other shorts have never been released or haven’t been remastered before (until now). I’ll have a bit more specific detail on the shorts and such included in this set soon, hopefully, as I’m waiting for a press release. It is known that the set will come with digital copies for all of the 60 shorts. You can now find the Blu-ray set available for preorder over at Amazon. The set will come with some cool physical bonus items as you can see below, including a figurine.
I’ll, again hopefully, have more specific details regarding those and the other bonus materials set to be included on this release soon. The panel discussion hinted at some new audio commentary tracks coming for some of the shorts, for example. More on that soon. Lastly, since this year Comic-Con took place at home in virtual panels, you can actually watch the entire panel online below.
Finally, here is some info regarding who all participated in the Comic-Con at Home panel:
“Bugs Bunny’s 80th Anniversary Extravaganza — Take a trip through eight decades of laughs and carrots when WBHE presents an all-encompassing look at one of the world’s most beloved and recognizable stars. Three current voices of Bugs Bunny — Billy West (Space Jam, Futurama, Doug), Jeff Bergman (Tiny Toon Adventures, Our Cartoon President) and Eric Bauza (Looney Tunes Cartoons, Muppet Babies) — join Looney Tunes Cartoons executive producer Pete Browngardt, movie historian/author/TV personality Leonard Maltin (Entertainment Tonight), animation historian/author Jerry Beck (Animation Scoop), and George Feltenstein (Senior Vice President, Theatrical Catalog, WBHE) to discuss Bugs Bunny’s history from theatrical shorts to Saturday morning cartoons and the new HBO Max series. Actress Yvette Nicole Brown (Community, Avengers: Endgame, DC Super Hero Girls) will moderate.”
RUMOR: It seems that the recent 4K restoration of the Richard Donner directed 1985 film “The Goonies” is coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray later this year, likely on June 9th, via Warner – according to numerous sources. The film (as mentioned) received a new 4K restoration which was shown during a limited theatrical re-release late last year and it sure is starting to seem very much like this year that it will receive a “35th Anniversary Edition” release, on 4K physically, from that restoration. The movie, executive produced & co-written by Steven Spielberg, starred Sean Astin, Josh Brolin, Corey Feldman, Ke Huy Quan, Kerri Green, Martha Plimpton, Robert Davi, Joe Pantoliano, and Anne Ramsey. The tech specs for the 4K at this point have not yet been detailed, nor have bonus materials or really any info at all.
There’s not currently an Amazon preorder listing for the 4K UHD Blu-ray of the film, so stay tuned for an update on that, but you can find it already listed over at retailer Target and online retailer HD Movie Source. Further retailer listings should go up and I’ll be adding those as I discover them. For now, that’s all that I’ve got to tell you about this, and yes, I know that a lot of you will say that this info had been rumored and reported by others last month. First off, I don’t really often read those other sites and/or I may have overlooked it on the sources that I do actually follow which reported it, as I’ve been a bit busy. That said, I just feel this news is worth sharing with the readers. Lastly, I’m not sure if the package art (pictured above) is final or even real, but it came from a few sources I find to be dependable. Stay tuned for updates!
Yesterday at this year’s NYCC (New York Comic-Con) they announced that the animated TV series“Castlevania Season One“ is coming to Blu-ray Disc on December 4th via VIZ Media (distributed by Warner). The show can be seen on Netflix and has been renewed for a second season. There are severaltweets floating around that show the cover art for the set. The tech specs for the release have not yet been detailed, nor fully have the bonus materials, so stay tuned for a full update on that. It is said that the release will include bonus materials such as storyboards and an art gallery. The title is now available for PRE-ORDER on Blu-ray over at Amazon.
The 1978 Richard Donner directed film “Superman: The Movie“ starring Christopher Reeve is officially coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray on November 6th via Warner. The film co-starred Margot Kidder, Gene Hackman, Ned Beatty, Jackie Cooper, and Marlon Brando. Tech specs for the release include 2160p 4K video in the 2.4:1 aspect ratio with both HDR10 and Dolby Vision forms of High Dynamic Range and Dolby Atmos sound. It is said that this comes from a new 4K MASTER from the original film print.
UPDATE: This title on 4K UHD Blu-ray now available for PRE-ORDER over at Amazon and Best Buy.
It is also available to PRE-ORDER directly from Warner at their WBShop. This title had been rumored for months and it’s great to see it finally getting officially announced and a release date. The bonus materials set to be included on the release are listed below.
