Retailer Best Buy will be getting three Exclusive Steelbook 4K UHD Blu-ray releases for The Wachowskis‘ films “The Matrix“ , “The Matrix Reloaded“ , and “The Matrix Reloaded“ on October 30th. All three Steelbook releases are available for PRE-ORDER now over at Best Buy. Click on their titles or artwork for links. More information about the releases can be found on the original news story about the individual releases. There will also be a box set of “The Matrix Trilogy“ released on 4K UHD Blu-ray the same day, October 2nd. Below, after the break, you can find the remaining artwork for the Steelbooks for the two sequels.
Both of The Wachowskis‘ 2003 sequels “The Matrix Reloaded” and “The Matrix Revolutions“ starring Keanu Reeves are coming INDIVIDUALLY to 4K UHD Blu-ray on October 2nd via Warner. This news comes in an early alert to retailers, namely Amazon. Tech specs and bonus materials have not yet been detailed, but you can likely expect them to be identical to the first film (already available on 4K). Still, stay tuned for official word on all that. The two films are both available for PRE-ORDER over at Amazon. Click on their titles or artwork above for links.
The Wachowskis‘ “The Matrix Trilogy” starring Keanu Reeves is coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray on October 2nd via Warner. This news comes in an early alert to retailers. The box set will include the following films:
- “The Matrix” (1999)
- “Matrix Reloaded” (2003) – NEW to 4K!
- “Matrix Revolutions” (2003) – NEW to 4K!
Tech specs and bonus materials have not yet been detailed, but if the first film (already available on 4K) is any indication, I’d say you can expect the two sequels to get Dolby Vision, HDR10 forms of High Dynamic Range and Dolby Atmos sound. This has not yet been announced (rather confirmed). As you’ll notice on the cover art it only states HDR, with no indication of Dolby Vision. However, Warner never indicates that on that part. Just worth pointing out. “The Matrix Trilogy“ on 4K UHD Blu-ray is available now for PRE-ORDER over at Amazon, but not yet at Best Buy. Lastly, be sure to check out our review of the first film, “The Matrix“ (as mentioned) already available on 4K. Stay tuned for official announcements regarding this box set.
UPDATE: These films will be released individually on 4K UHD Blu-ray in both standard and Steelbook packaging. Info about the standard individual releases can be found HERE, and information about the Best Buy Exclusive Steelbooks can be found HERE.
Retailer Best Buy has unveiled two Exclusive Steelbook releases for “Westworld: Season Two – The Door” on both 4K UHD Blu-ray and Blu-ray Disc, set for a December 4th release from HBO (Warner). The release had previously been detailed earlier last month in a news post. Still no tech specs or info yet regarding bonus materials. Refer to that previous news post though for links to the standard (non-Steelbook) versions, which are available for pre-order. The PRE-ORDER listings for these Steelbook releases are now available over at Best Buy for the 4K UHD Blu-ray and Blu-ray Disc releases. Cover art, completely identical, for the Blu-ray Steelbook can be found below, after the break.
The 4K UHD Blu-ray release of the 1978 Richard Donner directed film “Superman” is starting to seem a lot more like a reality. However, it is still (currently) a RUMOR, so take it “with a grain of salt” so-to-speak, and wait for an official announcement, as I always remind you. The film, starring Christopher Reeve and Margot Kidder, it seems is apparently coming to Germany as a 4K UHD Blu-ray release. It was first reported by a German website as you’ll see translated below.
“Superman”: DC film adaptation of 1978 for the first time on Ultra HD Blu-ray
Warner Bros. Home Entertainment is expected to release the Superman adaptation with Christopher Reeve on 4K Blu-ray in early November; Amazon already has the title in its assortment.
It’s not official yet, but according to current planning, Warner Bros. Home Entertainment will release “Superman” (also known as “Superman: The Movie”) from 1978 on 8 November on Ultra HD Blu-ray. bring out ray. Amazon has already listed the title.

Now, keep in mind that this is a translation to English from German via Google Translate. It does give us an idea of what the specifics are over there in Germany for that release. They seem to have seen a November 8th release date on the Amazon.de listing earlier. The German Amazon listing is still up, HERE, and even states that it is the 1978 film, it is a 4K UHD Blu-ray, and all. It just no longer has that release date (as pictured below).
So, with this new information having come to light, I’m going to speculate a bit here, and I’ll say that we can likely expect this to come to 4K UHD Blu-ray stateside by at least November. The film originally hit theaters on December 15th, 1978, so it should be on home video by then to celebrate its 40th Anniversary. Let’s hope Warner decides to finally officially announce the title is in the works, and perhaps give the release date and such as well very soon. Stay tuned for further updates!
The 2018 Gary Ross directed film “Ocean’s 8” starring Sandra Bullock is coming to both 4K UHD Blu-ray and Blu-ray Disc on September 11th via Warner. It’s very worth noting that the film co-stars Cate Blanchett, Anne Hathaway, Mindy Kaling, Sarah Paulson, Awkwafina, Rihanna, and Helena Bonham Carter.
Tech specs for the 4K UHD Blu-ray include full 2160p 4K in both HDR10 and Dolby Vision forms of High Dynamic Range with Dolby Atmos sound. As far as for the Blu-ray Disc: it will receive full 1080p HD video and Dolby Atmos sound. Both releases will come in the form of a “combo pack” with the 4K getting a Blu-ray Disc, the Blu-ray getting a DVD, and both getting a Digital Copy of the film included. The 4K UHD Blu-ray and Blu-ray Disc are available for PRE-ORDER now over at Amazon.
UPDATE: Audio specified for Blu-ray. Bonus materials set to be included on the release are listed below.
- A Heist in Heels
- Ocean’s Team 3.0
- Reimagining the Met Gala
- Deleted Scenes
Below, after the break, you can find the cover artwork for the Blu-ray Disc release of the film as well as the official announcement for the releases.
So, I’ve let this develop a bit more so it’s not even a “rumor” so much as it is, at this point, a very exciting fact. The original classic 1978 Richard Donner directed film “Superman“ starring the late Christopher Reeve and Margot Kidder is being restored currently at Warner in 4K. Not only are the visual elements of the original film negatives being remastered (restored) but also the sound mix (as of a 4 hours ago) has been confirmed to be getting remastered as well. All of of this wonderful news comes from the Twitter account of CapedWonder Superman Imagery. You’ll find their tweets below and all credits for photos go respectively to them. This could see a possible 4K UHD Blu-ray release later this year, it’s pretty much a given. There’s no way that Warner would just opt to release this only on 2K (Blu-ray Disc), when so much effort is being put into this 4K restoration. Also, did I mention that the film is celebrating its 40th anniversary of sorts this year? Yeah, that makes me think we could see it come to both 4K and Blu-ray later in the year. Stay tuned for more updates both here and on twitter. Below, after the break, you’ll find some select tweets from CapedWonder Superman Imagery on their twitter (as mentioned above).
This weekend at the 2018 San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC) we got news that the 1992 original “Batman: The Complete Animated Series” has been restored and is headed to Blu-ray Disc later this year. The exact release date is October 30th, and it’s going to be one really impressive box set, dubbed the “Deluxe Limited Edition” on Blu-ray from the folks at Warner. Here’s some rundown of the set. First off it has received restored HD video in full 1080p, and is presented in the original 1.33:1 (4×3) aspect ratio. The release will cover the span of the entire 85 episodes, 4 seasons total of the show itself, as well as include the two films. This box set is already up and available for PRE-ORDER now over at Amazon. This story is developing more, so I’ll be updating it more with more news as we get it.
LATEST UPDATE: The release date has now been pushed back from the original (10/16) date to now coming out on October 30th – as reported.
ORIGINAL UPDATE: First off a hi-res image of the packaging and contents has been released and can be found below. Click for a larger view.
