1979 film Over the Edge comes to Blu-ray in March

The 1979 film “Over the Edge” will be making its debut on Blu-ray Disc in North America on March 5th via Shout Select (Shout! Studios).  This release will be spine number 156 in the Shout Select series.  The film, directed by Jonathan Kaplan, starred Michael Eric Kramer, Pamela Ludwig, Matt Dillon, Vincent Spano, Harry Northup, Andy Romano, and Ellen Geer.

This comes from a “NEW 2K scan from the interpositive” according to the press release.  Tech specs for the release include a 1080p HD video presentation in the 1.85:1 aspect ratio and lossless Mono sound.  You can now find the Blu-ray available for preorder over at retailers Amazon and Walmart.  You can also order the Blu-ray directly from Shout! Studios.  The bonus materials set to be included with this release have just been announced and are listed below.

Robert Zemeckis film Used Cars on 4K in November

The 1980 film “Used Cars” is officially coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray on November 15th [as spine #67] in the Shout Select line from Shout! Factory.  The film, directed and co-written by Robert Zemeckis, starred Kurt Russell, Gerrit Graham, Frank McRae, Deborah Harmon, Joe Flaherty, David L. Lander, Michael McKean, and Jack Warden.

The film has received a new 4K from the original camera negative.  Tech specs for the release have not been fully detailed but you can expect a 2160p video presentation in the 1.85:1 aspect ratio presumably with at least HDR10 form of high dynamic range.  The sound configuration has not yet been detailed, but if it is the same as the 2019 Blu-ray, should again include DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 surround and 2.0 Mono lossless sound mixes.  This upcoming 2022 4K UHD Blu-ray release will come in the form of a “Collector’s Edition” 2-disc “combo pack” with the Blu-ray counterpart included.

Oliver Stone film Platoon arrives on 4K September

The 1986 Academy Award winner (for “Best Picture”) “Platoon“ is officially coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray on September 13th via Shout Select (Shout! Factory).  The film, winner of four Academy Awards, was written & directed by Oliver Stone, and it starred Charlie Sheen, Willem Dafoe, Tom Berenger, Tony Todd, James Terry McIlvain, Keith David, Forest Whitaker, Francesco Quinn, Kevin Dillon, John C. McGinley, and Johnny Depp.

Tech specs for the 4K UHD Blu-ray have yet to be fully detailed but should include a 2160p video presentation in the 1.85:1 aspect ratio and presumably HDR10 (at least) in terms of high dynamic range as well as perhaps Dolby Atmos sound and/or the original DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 lossless mix — as found on the original 2011 Blu-ray release.  The release will come in the form of a “combo pack” meaning that it will include a new Blu-ray counterpart.

You can also find the 4K available for preorder directly from the ShoutFactory.com store with an added bonus poster [while supplies last].  The bonus materials set to be included with the release are “currently in progress” and will be announced at a later date. 1984 film Red Dawn is heading to 4K in August

The 1984 film “Red Dawn“ is officially coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray via Shout Select (Shout! Factory) on August 16th.  The film, directed by John Milius, starred Patrick Swayze, C. Thomas Howell, Lea Thompson, Charlie Sheen, Jennifer Grey, Powers Boothe, and Harry Dean Stanton.

The tech specs for the release include a 2160p video presentation in the original 2.35:1 aspect ratio with HDR10 and Dolby Vision forms of high dynamic range as well as sound mixes in Dolby Atmos and DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 lossless surround sound.  This comes from a new “4K Scan From The Original Camera Negative” according to Shout! Factory.

You can now find that the 4K UHD Blu-ray is available for preorder at Amazon and directly via Shout! Factory‘s store (with a bonus while supplies last).

It’s most certainly also worth noting that retailer Best Buy will be getting an exclusive 4K UHD Blu-ray SteelBook release (pictured below) which is now available for preorder.

Liar Liar gets a 25th Anniversary Blu-ray in January

The 1997 comedy “Liar Liar“ will be getting a “25th Anniversary Edition” Blu-ray Disc release on January 18th, 2022 via Shout Select (Shout! Factory). The film, directed by Tom Shadyac, starred Jim Carrey, Maura Tierney, Justin Cooper, Cary Elwes, Anne Haney, Jennifer Tilly, Swoosie Kurtz, Jason Bernard, and Amanda Donohoe. This will be spine number 127 in the Shout Select line.

The tech specs for the Blu-ray include a 1080p HD video presentation in the 1.85:1 aspect ratio and DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 lossless surround and 2.0 Stereo sound.
