1997 film Gattaca will get a standard 4K release in June

The 1997 film “Gattaca” will be getting a standard 4K UHD Blu-ray release on June 15th via Sony Pictures Home Entertainment. This news, from an early retailer listing, comes not even a month after the film just received a limited edition 4K UHD Blu-ray SteelBook release — which you can read about here. This release will be identical except it will come in a standard black 4K case. You can now find the standard 4K UHD Blu-ray available for preorder over at Amazon.

The film, written & directed by Andrew Niccol, starred Ethan HawkeUma ThurmanJude LawGore VidalXander BerkeleyJayne BrookMaya RudolphBlair Underwood, and Elias Koteas. This movie has been newly remastered in 4K from the original camera negative. The tech specs for the 4K release include a 2160p presentation in the 2.40:1 aspect ratio with HDR10 form of high dynamic range and Dolby Atmos as well as DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 surround sound. The release will come in the form of a “combo pack” meaning it will include its Blu-ray Disc counterpart and a digital code (copy) of the film. The bonus materials included with the 4K release are listed below.

“Sherlock Holmes” films on 4K in September

The Guy Ritchie directed films “Sherlock Holmes” (2009) and “Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows” (2011) starring Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law are both coming to the 4K UHD Blu-ray format on September 1st, via Warner, according to retailers. Neither the tech specs and bonus materials for each release have yet been detailed, but stay tuned for an update on that. It is however known (from the art) that the releases will both come in the form of “combo pack” meaning they’ll both get their Blu-ray counterpart included as well as a digital copy of the film. Right now you can find both films on 4K UHD Blu-ray listed for preorder over at retailer Best Buy. You can also find just the first film on 4K available for preorder over at retailer Target. Lastly, you cannot yet find these films for available preorder over at Amazon but stay tuned for a definite update on that.

The Grand Budapest Hotel gets Criterion Blu-ray

The 2014 Wes Anderson directed-film The Grand Budapest Hotel will be getting a Blu-ray Disc release from The Criterion Collection on April 28th. The film, previously released on Blu-ray from Universal back in 2014, featured a cast of Ralph FiennesF. Murray AbrahamMathieu Amalric, Adrien Brody, Willem Dafoe, Jeff Goldblum, Harvey Keitel, Jude Law, Edward Norton, Tilda Swinton, Jason Schwartzman, and Bill Murray. The tech specs for the new Criterion Blu-ray include a 2K digital transfer, supervised by Wes Anderson, presented in 1080p HD video in a variety of aspect ratios (1.37:1, 1.85:1, and 2.40:1) with DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 sound. The Criterion Collection Blu-ray of the film is now available for preorder over at Amazon and directly via the Criterion website. Bonus materials set to be included on the release are listed below.

The 2019 Marvel Studios film Captain Marvel is officially coming to both 4K UHD Blu-ray and Blu-ray on June 11th, via Disney. The film, directed by Anna Boden & Ryan Fleck, features a cast of Brie LarsonSamuel L. JacksonBen Mendelsohn, Jude Law, and Annette Bening.

UPDATE: Tech specs for the 4K release include video in the 2.39:1 aspect ratio with HDR10 form of High Dynamic Range and Dolby Atmos sound. The tech specs for the Blu-ray include 1080p video in the 2.39:1 aspect ratio and DTS-HD Master Audio 7.1 sound.

RUMOR: “Captain Marvel” coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray and Blu-ray this Summer

The 2019 film “Captain Marvel” starring Brie Larson, that just hit theaters yesterday, is already rumored to be coming to both 4K UHD Blu-ray and Blu-ray Disc sometime this Summer, perhaps in June. This rumor comes according to some early retailer alerts going around. The title has not at all been officially announced yet by the studio (Disney). The film, directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck, features a supporting cast of Samuel L. JacksonBen Mendelsohn, Jude Law, Annette Bening, Lashana LynchDjimon HounsouLee Pace, and Clark Gregg.

Tech specs and bonus materials, of course, have not yet been detailed. It is known that the 4K release will come in the form of “combo pack” which means that the 4K will get a Blu-ray included and a Digital Copy of the film will be included with each version. There are currently pre-order listings for the 4K UHD Blu-ray and Blu-ray Disc versions of the film over at retailer Best Buy. Best Buy will also be getting an exclusive Steelbook for the 4K release (pictured below) that is now available for pre-order.

“Vox Lux” starring Natalie Portman and Jude Law is coming to Blu-ray in March

The 2018 Brady Corbet written & directed film Vox Lux starring Natalie Portman and Jude Law is coming to Blu-ray Disc on March 5th, via Universal. The film, a musical drama, co-stars Stacy Martin, Jennifer Ehle, Raffey Cassidy, and features Willem Dafoe as the narrator.
