Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow 4K in May

The 2004 film “Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow” comes to 4K UHD Blu-ray on May 27th via Shout Select (Shout! Studios). Kerry Conran wrote and directed the film which starred Jude Law, Gwyneth Paltrow, Angelina Jolie, Giovanni Ribisi, and Michael Gambon.

The movie has received a new 4K transfer from the 35mm digital negative. Tech specs for the 4K UHD Blu-ray include a 2160p video presentation in the 1.85:1 aspect ratio with Dolby Vision (or HDR10). Tech specs for the Blu-ray Disc included in this “combo pack” include a 1080p HD video presentation in the 1.85:1 aspect ratio. The specifics regarding the audio mix(es) for the release have yet to be announced. Stay tuned for an update.

Steven Soderbergh film Contagion on 4K in February

The 2011 film “Contagion” is coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray on February 27th via Warner Bros. Home Entertainment, distributed here by Allied Vaughn.  The film, directed by Steven Soderbergh, starred Marion Cotillard, Matt Damon, Laurence Fishburne, Jude Law, Gwyneth Paltrow, Kate Winslet, and Bryan Cranston.

The tech specs for the release have yet to be fully detailed, but you can expect a 2160p video presentation in the 1.85:1 aspect ratio and HDR10 form of high dynamic range and lossless DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 surround.  There’s no sign of Dolby Vision or Dolby Atmos being included with this release.  No Blu-ray counterpart will be part of the release, but you will get a digital code (copy) of the film.  Bonus materials should be identical to the previous Blu-ray and likely are housed on the 4K disc.  Stay tuned for an update on the specifics of the release.  NOTE: This release is said to be MOD (manufactured on demand), however, based on previously released titles, this will not be a burnt disc.

MAJOR UPDATES:  Amazon now has the 4K UHD Blu-ray preorder listing back up.  You can also find the 4K UHD Blu-ray available for preorder over at Deep Discount and MovieZyng.  The United Kingdom (UK) will be getting two different 4K UHD Blu-ray releases with one being SteelBook (pictured below) which are now available for preorder over at online retailer Zavvi.

Latest Fantastic Beasts film on 4K and Blu-ray in June

The 2022 film “Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore” is officially coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray and Blu-ray Disc on June 28th via Warner Bros. Home Entertainment.  The film, which is part of the “Wizarding World” franchise created and written by J.K. Rowling, was directed by David Yates and stars Jude Law, Eddie Redmayne, Ezra Miller, Dan Fogler, Alison Sudol, William Nadylam, Callum Turner, Jessica Williams, Victoria Yeates, Poppy Corby-Tuech, Fiona Glascott, Katherine Waterston, Maria Fernanda Cândido, Richard Coyle, Oliver Masucci, Valerie Pachner, Aleksandr Kuznetsov, and Mads Mikkelsen.

Tech specs for the 4K UHD Blu-ray include a 2160p video presentation in the 2.39:1 aspect ratio with HDR10 form of high dynamic range and Dolby Atmos sound.  The tech specs for the Blu-ray include a 1080p HD video presentation in the 2.39:1 aspect ratio and Dolby Atmos sound.  Both releases will come in the form of a “combo pack” with the 4K receiving its Blu-ray counterpart, the Blu-ray receiving its DVD counterpart, and each containing a digital code (copy) of the film.

You can now find the 4K UHD Blu-ray and the Blu-ray available for preorder over at Amazon.  It’s also worth noting that there will be a 4K UHD Blu-ray SteelBook available as an exclusive over at retailer Best Buy (pictured below) and it is now also available for preorder.

1997 film Gattaca will get a standard 4K release in June

The 1997 film “Gattaca” will be getting a standard 4K UHD Blu-ray release on June 15th via Sony Pictures Home Entertainment. This news, from an early retailer listing, comes not even a month after the film just received a limited edition 4K UHD Blu-ray SteelBook release — which you can read about here. This release will be identical except it will come in a standard black 4K case. You can now find the standard 4K UHD Blu-ray available for preorder over at Amazon.

The film, written & directed by Andrew Niccol, starred Ethan Hawke, Uma Thurman, Jude Law, Gore Vidal, Xander Berkeley, Jayne Brook, Maya Rudolph, Blair Underwood, and Elias Koteas. This movie has been newly remastered in 4K from the original camera negative. The tech specs for the 4K release include a 2160p presentation in the 2.40:1 aspect ratio with HDR10 form of high dynamic range and Dolby Atmos as well as DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 surround sound. “Sherlock Holmes” films on 4K in September

The Guy Ritchie directed films “Sherlock Holmes” (2009) and “Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows” (2011) starring Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law are both coming to the 4K UHD Blu-ray format on September 1st, via Warner, according to retailers. Neither the tech specs and bonus materials for each release have yet been detailed, but stay tuned for an update on that. It is however known (from the art) that the releases will both come in the form of “combo pack” meaning they’ll both get their Blu-ray counterpart included as well as a digital copy of the film. Right now you can find both films on 4K UHD Blu-ray listed for preorder over at retailer Best Buy. You can also find just the first film on 4K available for preorder over at retailer Target. Lastly, you cannot yet find these films for available preorder over at Amazon but stay tuned for a definite update on that.

The Grand Budapest Hotel gets Criterion Blu-ray

The 2014 Wes Anderson directed-film “The Grand Budapest Hotel“ will be getting a Blu-ray Disc release from The Criterion Collection on April 28th. The film, previously released on Blu-ray from Universal back in 2014, featured a cast of Ralph Fiennes, F. Murray Abraham, Mathieu Amalric, Adrien Brody, Willem Dafoe, Jeff Goldblum, Harvey Keitel, Jude Law, Edward Norton, Tilda Swinton, Jason Schwartzman, and Bill Murray. The tech specs for the new Criterion Blu-ray include a 2K digital transfer, supervised by Wes Anderson, presented in 1080p HD video in a variety of aspect ratios (1.37:1, 1.85:1, and 2.40:1) with DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 sound. The Criterion Collection Blu-ray of the film is now available for preorder over at Amazon and directly via the Criterion website. Bonus materials set to be included on the release are listed below.
