1983 film WarGames arrives on 4K in December

The 1983 film “WarGames” is officially coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray on December 20th via Shout! Factory.  The film, via MGM, directed by John Badham, starred Matthew Broderick, Ally Sheedy, Dabney Coleman, John Wood, Juanin Clay, and Barry Corbin.

This movie has received a new 4K scan from the original camera negative.  The tech specs for the 4K UHD Blu-ray release have yet to be detailed but you can at least expect a 2160p video presentation in the 1.85:1 aspect ratio with HDR10 and Dolby Vision forms of HDR and lossless sound mix(es).  This release will come in the form of a “combo pack” with its Blu-ray Disc counterpart included.

You can now find the 4K UHD Blu-ray available for preorder over at retailer Best Buy as well as over at online retailer Deep Discount.  You can also now preorder the 4K UHD Blu-ray directly via Shout! Factory‘s website, where you’ll get an exclusive poster [while supplies last].  The bonus materials set to be included with this 4K physical release are listed below.

Westworld Season 4 on 4K and Blu-ray in November

The HBO TV series “Westworld: Season Four: The Choice” is officially coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray and Blu-ray Disc on November 29th via Warner Bros. Home Entertainment.  The show, created by Lisa Joy and Jonathan Nolan, in its fourth season stars Evan Rachel Wood, Ed Harris, Jeffrey Wright, Tessa Thompson, Aaron Paul, Luke Hemsworth, Angela Sarafyan, Ariana DeBose, Aurora Perrineau, and Daniel Wu.

The tech specs for the 4K UHD Blu-ray release include a 2160p video presentation with HDR10 form of high dynamic range and lossless [presumably DTS-HD Master Audio] 5.1 surround sound, spanning across a 3-discs [for 4K].  Tech specs for the Blu-ray release include a 1080p HD video presentation and 5.1 lossless surround sound, spanning across a 2-disc set.  The 4K release will come in the form of a “combo pack” meaning that it will include the Blu-ray Disc counterparts of the fourth season as well as a digital code (copy).

Three Thousand Years of Longing on 4K and Blu-ray

The 2022 film “Three Thousand Years of Longing” is officially coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray and Blu-ray Disc on November 15th via Warner Bros. Home Entertainment.  The film, directed and produced by George Miller, is based on the short story “The Djinn in the Nightingale’s Eye” written by A.S. Byatt and it stars Idris Elba and Tilda Swinton.

The tech specs for the 4K UHD Blu-ray include a 2160p video presentation with HDR10 form of high dynamic range.  Tech specs for the Blu-ray include a 1080p presentation and no word yet on what audio configuration either will receive, but stay tuned for an update on that hopefully soon.  Both releases will come in the form of a “combo pack” with the 4K getting its Blu-ray Disc counterpart, the Blu-ray getting its DVD counterpart, and each including a digital code (copy) of the film.

Kevin Smith’s Clerks 3 on 4K exclusively at Best Buy

The 2022 sequel “Clerks III” is coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray SteelBook on December 6th via Lionsgate exclusively at retailer Best BuyNOTE: There will be a Blu-ray release of the film, as previously reported.  There had been some confusion regarding the release date for physical media but that has now been cleared up.

The film, written & directed by Kevin Smith, stars Brian O’Halloran, Jeff Anderson, Jason Mewes, Rosario Dawson, Jennifer Schwalbach Smith, Trevor Fehrman, Austin Zajur, and of course Kevin Smith (as “Silent Bob”).

The tech specs for the release include a 2160p 4K video presentation and Dolby Atmos sound.  The release will come in the form of a “combo pack” meaning it will include its Blu-ray Disc counterpart as well as a digital code (copy) of the film.

The 1973 western “High Plains Drifter” is officially coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray on November 22nd via KL Studio Classics.  The film, directed by Clint Eastwood, also starred Clint Eastwood, as well as Verna Bloom, Marianna Hill, Mitchell Ryan, Jack Ging, Stefan Gierasch, Ted Hartley, and Billy Curtis.

The movie has received a new master from a 4K scan of the original camera negative.  The tech specs for the release include a 2160p video presentation in the 2.39:1 aspect ratio with HDR10 and Dolby Vision forms of high dynamic range and DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 surround and 2.0 Mono lossless sound mixes, on a BD-100.  The release will come in the form of a “combo pack” meaning that it will include its Blu-ray Disc counterpart with the same audio mixes just presented in 1080p HD, on a BD-50 disc.  You can now find the 4K UHD Blu-ray available for preorder over at retailer Best Buy and directly via Kino Lorber‘s website.  The bonus materials set to be included with the release are listed below.

The 2022 film “Bullet Train” is officially coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray and Blu-ray Disc on October 18th via Sony Pictures Home Entertainment.  The film, directed by David Leitch, stars Brad Pitt, Joey King, Aaron-Taylor Johnson, Brian Tyree Henry, Andrew Koji, Hiroyuki Sanada, Bad Bunny, Michael Shannon, Logan Lerman, Zazie Beetz, and Sandra Bullock.

The tech specs for the 4K UHD Blu-ray include a 2160p video presentation in the 2.39:1 aspect ratio with HDR10 form of high dynamic range and Dolby Atmos sound.  Tech specs for the Blu-ray include a 1080p HD video presentation in 2.39:1 aspect with DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 lossless surround sound.  Both releases will come in the form of a “combo pack” with the 4K getting its Blu-ray Disc counterpart, the Blu-ray getting its DVD counterpart, and each including a digital code (copy) of the film compatible with Movies Anywhere.

48 Hrs. and Another 48 Hrs. on 4K in December

The film “48 Hrs.” (1982) and its sequel “Another 48 Hrs.” (1990) are both coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray on December 6th via Paramount Home Entertainment, according to retailers.  “48 Hrs.” and “Another 48 Hrs.” were both directed by Walter Hill, and starred Eddie Murphy and Nick Nolte.  Also, a “48 Hrs. 2-Movie Collection” (pictured above) with both films will be coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray on the same day, December 6th.

These transfers for each film were approved by the director Walter Hill.  The tech specs for the releases include 2160p video presentations in the 1.85:1 aspect ratio with HDR10 and Dolby Vision forms of high dynamic range.  It’s likely that both films will receive Dolby TrueHD 5.1 lossless sound mixes, although it has not been confirmed.  All of these releases will come in the form of a “combo pack” with the Blu-ray Disc counterpart(s) included along with a digital copy (code) for each film.  Bonus materials for the films have not yet been detailed but should be identical to the previous Paramount Presents Blu-ray releases.
