The 1989 film Uncle Buck is coming to 4K in February

The 1989 film “Uncle Buck” is officially coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray on February 18th via KL Studio Classics. The film was written & directed by John Hughes. It starred John Candy, Macaulay Culkin, Jean Louisa Kelly, Gaby Hoffmann, Amy Madigan, Laurie Metcalf, Mike Starr, Garrett M. Brown, and Elaine Bromka.

The movie has received a new 4K master, from a 4K scan of the 35mm original camera negative. The tech specs for the 4K release include a 2160p video presentation in the 1.85:1 aspect ratio with Dolby Vision or HDR10 forms of high dynamic range on a BD-100 disc. Audio will be presented in DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 surround and Lossless 2.0 Stereo. The release will come as a “combo pack” with a Blu-ray Disc counterpart included.

UPDATED: The 4K UHD Blu-ray is now available for preorder at Amazon and directly via Kino Lorber’s website. This 2-disc set includes the following bonus materials.

1999 film 200 Cigarettes on Blu-ray in February

The 1999 film “200 Cigarettes“ is officially coming to Blu-ray Disc on February 15th via Paramount Home Entertainment, as a MOD (manufactured-on-demand) release.  The film, directed by Risa Bramon Garcia, starred Ben Affleck, Casey Affleck, Dave Chappelle, Guillermo Díaz, Angela Featherstone, Janeane Garofalo, Gaby Hoffmann, Kate Hudson, Courtney Love, Jay Mohr, Martha Plimpton, Christina Ricci, and Paul Rudd.

The tech specs for the release include a 1080p HD video presentation (presumably in the 1.85:1 aspect ratio) and DTS-HD Master Audio 2.0 Stereo sound on a BD-25 disc.  It has not been clarified if these discs will be pressed or burnt but you’ll be able to preorder the Blu-ray MOD release directly via Movie Znyg. Also, you’ll be able to buy the Blu-ray over at retailer Walmart.com, where it’s now available for preorder.  No bonus materials will be included with this release.

NOTE: This will mark the debut of this film on the Blu-ray Disc format. It has never been available in HD on home video until this upcoming release.

RUMOR: “Field of Dreams” with Kevin Costner comes to 4K UHD Blu-ray in May

field_of_dreams_4k_steelbookIt’s been rumored and it nears being confirmed that the 1989 film “Field of Dreams” starring Kevin Costner is getting a 4K UHD Blu-ray release on May 14th via Universal, according to an early alert to retailers. The film, directed by Phil Alden Robinson, co-starred James Earl Jones, Ray Liotta, Timothy Busfield, Amy Madigan, Gaby Hoffman, Frank Whaley, and Burt Lancaster. Tech specs and bonus materials have not at all yet been detailed for the 4K release. It is known that there will be an exclusive Steelbook for the 4K release available at retailer Best Buy (pictured above). That 4K steelbook and the standard 4K release both have placeholders over at Best Buy. The only other detail that seems to be obvious is that the release comes in the form of a “combo pack” with the Blu-ray of the film also included (as shown in the Steelbook art).
