48 Hrs. and Another 48 Hrs. on 4K in December

The film “48 Hrs.” (1982) and its sequel “Another 48 Hrs.” (1990) are both coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray on December 6th via Paramount Home Entertainment, according to retailers.  “48 Hrs.” and “Another 48 Hrs.” were both directed by Walter Hill, and starred Eddie Murphy and Nick Nolte.  Also, a “48 Hrs. 2-Movie Collection” (pictured above) with both films will be coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray on the same day, December 6th.

These transfers for each film were approved by the director Walter Hill.  The tech specs for the releases include 2160p video presentations in the 1.85:1 aspect ratio with HDR10 and Dolby Vision forms of high dynamic range.  It’s likely that both films will receive Dolby TrueHD 5.1 lossless sound mixes, although it has not been confirmed.  All of these releases will come in the form of a “combo pack” with the Blu-ray Disc counterpart(s) included along with a digital copy (code) for each film.  Bonus materials for the films have not yet been detailed but should be identical to the previous Paramount Presents Blu-ray releases.

The 1987 sequel Beverly Hills Cop II is finally coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray in a “35th Anniversary Edition” release on May 17th via Paramount Home Entertainment.  The film, directed by the late Tony Scott, starred Eddie Murphy, Judge Reinhold, John Ashton, Jürgen Prochnow, Ronny Cox, Brigitte Nielsen, Allen Garfield, Paul Reiser, Gilbert R. Hill, Paul Guilfoyle, and the late Dean Stockwell.

UPDATED:  The tech specs for the release include a 2160p video presentation in the 2.39:1 aspect ratio with HDR10 and Dolby Vision forms of high dynamic range and DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 lossless surround sound mix.  No bonus materials will be included with this release.  It is most certainly worth noting, that this release will not include a Blu-ray, and instead just a 4K UHD Blu-ray disc along with a digital code (copy) of the film.

The 1990 sequel “Another 48 Hrs.” starring Eddie Murphy and Nick Nolte is officially getting a new remastered Blu-ray Disc release from Paramount Presents on July 6th. This release will be spine #20 in the series. The film, directed by Walter Hill, co-starred Brion James, Kevin Tighe, Ed O’Ross, Andrew Divoff, Bernie Casey, Brent Jennings, and Tisha Campbell. This movie has received a new 4K restoration. The tech specs for the release have not yet been detailed but you can very likely expect a 1080p HD presentation with lossless 5.1 surround sound. The release will come with a digital copy of the film. This is the very first time the film has been available on the Blu-ray format stateside.

2001 film Shrek gets a 20th Anniversary 4K release in May

The 2001 CG animated DreamWorks film “Shrek” will officially be getting a 20th Anniversary Edition 4K UHD Blu-ray release on May 11th via Universal Studios Home Entertainment. The film, which was directed by Andrew Adamson and Vicky Jenson, featured a voice cast of Mike MyersEddie MurphyCameron Diaz, and John Lithgow. The tech specs for the 4K UHD Blu-ray include a 2160p presentation in the 1.85:1 aspect ratio with HDR10 form of high dynamic range and DTS:X sound on a BD-100 disc. The release will come in the form of a “combo pack” meaning that it will come with its Blu-ray Disc counterpart and a digital code (copy) of the film. You can find the 4K UHD Blu-ray and even a Blu-ray Disc of this 20th Anniversary Edition of the film now available for preorder over at Amazon.

1998 animated Mulan on 4K UHD Blu-ray November 10th

1998 Disney animated film “Mulan” is officially coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray on November 10th via Disney. Yes, that’s next week and comes with very little notice but that’s how Disney works. The film, directed by Tony BancroftBarry Cook, featured the voice talents of Ming-Na WenEddie MurphyBD Wong, Miguel Ferrer, Harvey Fierstein, James Hong, Pat Morita, George Takei, Freda Foh Shen, and Donny Osmond. The tech specs for the release include a 4K presentation in the 1.66:1 aspect ratio with HDR10 form of high dynamic range and Dolby Atmos sound. The 4K release will come in the form of a “combo pack” meaning that it will come with the Blu-ray Disc counterpart(s) as well as a digital code (copy) of the film. You cannot find the 4K UHD Blu-ray yet available for preorder over at Amazon, and you likely won’t anytime soon, but stay tuned for an update on that. Trading Places on Paramount Presents Blu-ray December

The 1983 film Trading Places starring Eddie Murphy and Dan Aykroyd will be getting a new limited edition Blu-ray Disc release on December 1st via Paramount Presents. The film, directed by John Landis, co-starred Ralph Bellamy, Denholm Elliott, Don Ameche, Jim Belushi, and Jamie Lee Curtis. This movie has received a new 4K remastered transfer that was supervised by the film’s director (John Landis) as described below:

“Newly remastered from a 4K film transfer supervised by director John Landis, TRADING PLACES cemented Eddie Murphy’s star status.  The limited-edition Paramount Presents Blu-ray Disc™ is presented in collectible packaging that includes a foldout image of the film’s theatrical poster and an interior spread with key movie moments.  The film will also be available on 4K Ultra HD Digital.”

1986 film The Golden Child makes Blu-ray debut December

The 1986 film The Golden Child starring Eddie Murphy will be making its debut to the Blu-ray Disc format on December 1st via Paramount Presents. The film, directed by Michael Ritchie, co-starred J.L. ReateCharles Dance, Charlotte Lewis, Victor Wong, Randall ‘Tex’ Cobb, Pons Maar, Eric Douglas, and James Hong. The film has received a new 4K remastered transfer.

“Newly remastered from a 4K film transfer, this hit action-comedy comes to Blu-ray for the first time as part of the Paramount Presents line. The limited-edition Paramount Presents Blu-ray Disc is presented in collectible packaging that includes a foldout image of the film’s theatrical poster and an interior spread with key movie moments. The film will also be available on 4K Ultra HD Digital.”

The tech specs for the release have not yet been fully detailed, but hopefully, I’ll be able to give you a rundown on that soon. As I put in an inquiry to the studio about those. Also, there’s currently no preorder listing yet functional for the upcoming Blu-ray but a placeholder page is already up over at Amazon.
