2001 film Shrek gets a 20th Anniversary 4K release in May

The 2001 CG animated DreamWorks film “Shrek” will officially be getting a 20th Anniversary Edition 4K UHD Blu-ray release on May 11th via Universal Studios Home Entertainment. The film, which was directed by Andrew Adamson and Vicky Jenson, featured a voice cast of Mike MyersEddie MurphyCameron Diaz, and John Lithgow. The tech specs for the 4K UHD Blu-ray include a 2160p presentation in the 1.85:1 aspect ratio with HDR10 form of high dynamic range and DTS:X sound on a BD-100 disc. The release will come in the form of a “combo pack” meaning that it will come with its Blu-ray Disc counterpart and a digital code (copy) of the film. You can find the 4K UHD Blu-ray and even a Blu-ray Disc of this 20th Anniversary Edition of the film now available for preorder over at Amazon.

UPDATE: There will also be a 4K UHD Blu-ray SteelBook of the film available an exclusive over at retailer Best Buy. It can now be found available for preorder and is pictured below.

1998 animated Mulan on 4K UHD Blu-ray November 10th

1998 Disney animated film “Mulan” is officially coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray on November 10th via Disney. Yes, that’s next week and comes with very little notice but that’s how Disney works. The film, directed by Tony BancroftBarry Cook, featured the voice talents of Ming-Na WenEddie MurphyBD Wong, Miguel Ferrer, Harvey Fierstein, James Hong, Pat Morita, George Takei, Freda Foh Shen, and Donny Osmond. The tech specs for the release include a 4K presentation in the 1.66:1 aspect ratio with HDR10 form of high dynamic range and Dolby Atmos sound. The 4K release will come in the form of a “combo pack” meaning that it will come with the Blu-ray Disc counterpart(s) as well as a digital code (copy) of the film. You cannot find the 4K UHD Blu-ray yet available for preorder over at Amazon, and you likely won’t anytime soon, but stay tuned for an update on that. In the meantime, realistically, you can find the 4K UHD Blu-ray available for preorder over at retailers Best Buy and Target. Trading Places on Paramount Presents Blu-ray December

The 1983 film Trading Places starring Eddie Murphy and Dan Aykroyd will be getting a new limited edition Blu-ray Disc release on December 1st via Paramount Presents. The film, directed by John Landis, co-starred Ralph Bellamy, Denholm Elliott, Don Ameche, Jim Belushi, and Jamie Lee Curtis. This movie has received a new 4K remastered transfer that was supervised by the film’s director (John Landis) as described below:

“Newly remastered from a 4K film transfer supervised by director John Landis, TRADING PLACES cemented Eddie Murphy’s star status.  The limited-edition Paramount Presents Blu-ray Disc™ is presented in collectible packaging that includes a foldout image of the film’s theatrical poster and an interior spread with key movie moments.  The film will also be available on 4K Ultra HD Digital.”

The tech specs for the release have not yet been fully detailed, but hopefully, I’ll be able to give you a rundown on that soon, as I put in an inquiry to the studio about those. You can find the upcoming Paramount Presents Blu-ray now available for preorder over at Amazon.

1986 film The Golden Child makes Blu-ray debut December

The 1986 film The Golden Child starring Eddie Murphy will be making its debut to the Blu-ray Disc format on December 1st via Paramount Presents. The film, directed by Michael Ritchie, co-starred J.L. ReateCharles Dance, Charlotte Lewis, Victor Wong, Randall ‘Tex’ Cobb, Pons Maar, Eric Douglas, and James Hong. The film has received a new 4K remastered transfer.

“Newly remastered from a 4K film transfer, this hit action-comedy comes to Blu-ray for the first time as part of the Paramount Presents line. The limited-edition Paramount Presents Blu-ray Disc is presented in collectible packaging that includes a foldout image of the film’s theatrical poster and an interior spread with key movie moments. The film will also be available on 4K Ultra HD Digital.”

The tech specs for the release have not yet been fully detailed, but hopefully, I’ll be able to give you a rundown on that soon. As I put in an inquiry to the studio about those. Also, there’s currently no preorder listing yet functional for the upcoming Blu-ray but a placeholder page is already up over at Amazon. The 1984 film Beverly Hills Cop starring Eddie Murphy is officially coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray on December 1st via Paramount. The film, directed by Martin Brest, co-starred Judge ReinholdJohn Ashton, Lisa Eilbacher, Ronny Cox, Steven Berkoff, James Russo, Jonathan Banks, Stephen Elliott, Gilbert R. Hill, Joel Bailey, Bronson Pinchot, and Paul Reiser. Tech specs for the release include a 2160p 4K presentation in the 1.85:1 aspect ratio with HDR10 form of High Dynamic Range. No word yet on the audio format and configuration for the release, but I have put in an inquiry about it to the studio [Paramount] and should be updating you on that soon. In the meantime, it’s worth noting the film has been remastered in 4K as stated below in an official statement.

“This action-comedy classic has been remastered in 4K with HDR and will be available in a 4K Ultra HD/Blu-ray Combo with Digital copy and is available now on 4K Ultra HD Digital.”

The 1988 film Coming to America starring Eddie Murphy is officially coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray on December 1st via Paramount. This is an obvious promotion for the film’s upcoming and highly anticipated sequel — likely coming later this year. The film, directed by John Landis, co-starred Paul BatesGarcelle Beauvais, Victoria Dillard, James Earl Jones, Madge Sinclair, Sheila Johnson, and Arsenio Hall. Tech specs for the release include a 2160p 4K presentation in the 1.85:1 aspect ratio with HDR10 form of High Dynamic Range from a new 4K restoration supervised by the film’s director John Landis. In fact, here’s an official statement regarding this release:

“Newly remastered in 4K with HDR from a supervised restoration by director John Landis, COMING TO AMERICA is an essential comedy-classic for your collection.  Available for the first time on 4K Ultra HD with Digital copy, in a limited-edition 4K Ultra HD Steelbook with Digital copy and themed mini poster, or on 4K Ultra HD Digital.”

Vampire in Brooklyn lands on Blu-ray September

The 1995 Wes Craven directed film Vampire in Brooklyn starring Eddie Murphy is finally coming to Blu-ray Disc for the very first time on September 15th, via Paramount. The film is considered a perhaps cult-classic yet was also widely hated by critics. It featured a supporting cast of Angela Bassett, Allen Payne, Kadeem Hardison, John Witherspoon, and Zakes Mokae. Tech specs for the release include a 1080p HD video presentation in the 1.85:1 aspect ratio and DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 surround sound. You can now find the Blu-ray available for preorder over at Amazon and retailer Best Buy. No bonus materials are set to be included on this release, according to the back package art.

Beverly Hills Cop Collection on Blu-ray January

The Beverly Hills Cop 3-Movie Collection is coming to Blu-ray Disc as a set on January 14th, 2020 via Paramount. This set includes 4K remastered versions of the films “Beverly Hills Cop” (1984), “Beverly Hills Cop II” (1987), and “Beverly Hills Cop III” (1994). The two sequels have never been released yet on the Blu-ray format and are making their debut in this 3-Movie Collection. The tech specs for the releases have not yet been detailed but I’m trying to get some info from Paramount soon regarding that. So, stay updated. UPDATE: The Blu-ray set is now available for preorder over at Amazon. Bonus materials set to be included on the Blu-ray Disc for the first film include new and previously materials listed below.
