48 Hrs. and Another 48 Hrs. on 4K in December

The film “48 Hrs.” (1982) and its sequel “Another 48 Hrs.” (1990) are both coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray on December 6th via Paramount Home Entertainment, according to retailers.  “48 Hrs.” and “Another 48 Hrs.” were both directed by Walter Hill, and starred Eddie Murphy and Nick Nolte.  Also, a “48 Hrs. 2-Movie Collection” (pictured above) with both films will be coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray on the same day, December 6th.

These transfers for each film were approved by the director Walter Hill.  The tech specs for the releases include 2160p video presentations in the 1.85:1 aspect ratio with HDR10 and Dolby Vision forms of high dynamic range.  It’s likely that both films will receive Dolby TrueHD 5.1 lossless sound mixes, although it has not been confirmed.  All of these releases will come in the form of a “combo pack” with the Blu-ray Disc counterpart(s) included along with a digital copy (code) for each film.  Bonus materials for the films have not yet been detailed but should be identical to the previous Paramount Presents Blu-ray releases.

The 1990 sequel “Another 48 Hrs.” starring Eddie Murphy and Nick Nolte is officially getting a new remastered Blu-ray Disc release from Paramount Presents on July 6th. This release will be spine #20 in the series. The film, directed by Walter Hill, co-starred Brion James, Kevin Tighe, Ed O’Ross, Andrew Divoff, Bernie Casey, Brent Jennings, and Tisha Campbell. This movie has received a new 4K restoration. The tech specs for the release have not yet been detailed but you can very likely expect a 1080p HD presentation with lossless 5.1 surround sound. The release will come with a digital copy of the film. This is the very first time the film has been available on the Blu-ray format stateside.

1987 film Full Metal Jacket on 4K in September

The 1987 film Full Metal Jacket directed by Stanley Kubrick is coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray on September 22nd, via Warner. The film starred Matthew ModineVincent D’Onofrio, Adam Baldwin, Dorian Harewood, Kevyn Major Howard, Arliss Howard, Ed O’Ross, John Terry, Kieron Jecchinis, and the late R. Lee Ermey. Tech specs for the release (according to the back art) include a 2160p presentation in the 1.78:1 aspect ratio (presumably) with HDR10 form of High Dynamic Range and DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 sound. It will be a “combo pack” meaning that it will include its Blu-ray Disc counterpart as well as a digital code (copy) of the film. You can find the 4K UHD Blu-ray release of the film listed as available for preorder over at Amazon. It’s totally worth mentioning that there will be an exclusive 4K UHD Blu-ray SteelBook available for the film over at retailer Best Buy (pictured below) which is now listed and should be a functional preorder listing soon.

The film, directed by Roland Emmerich, co-starred Ally Walker, Ed O’Ross, Jerry Orbach, Leon Rippey, and Tommy ‘Tiny’ Lister. Tech specs for the 4K release include 2160p video in the 2.40:1 aspect ratio with HDR10 and Dolby Vision forms of High Dynamic Range as well as DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 sound. The release will come as a “combo pack” with the Blu-ray counterpart and a digital code (copy) of the film. The 4K UHD Blu-ray is now available for preorder over at Amazon and Best Buy.
