Burton and Schumacher “Batman” films on 4K in June

Warner today has officially announced plans to bring the Tim Burton and Joel Schumacher directed original four live-action Batman films to 4K UHD Blu-ray on June 4th. These films include Batman (1989), Batman Returns (1992), Batman Forever (1995), and Batman & Robin (1997). The films will first get individual releases and then be released in a box set called “Batman Anthology” on 4K a tad bit later in the year (9/17). All four films are said to have been restored after they received new 4K scans of the original camera negatives. Tech specs for the releases will include 2160p video with HDR10 form of High Dynamic Range and Dolby Atmos sound for each film. No further details have yet been announced regarding the releases. They will each include newly remastered versions of the films on Blu-ray Disc and digital copies – likely compatible with Movies Anywhere. The bonus materials will be the same as previously included on Blu-ray for each film.

UPDATE / PRE-ORDERS: You can pre-order the films over at Amazon. Just click on the titles of the films above for links. Best Buy now has these also for pre-order. They only seem to work if you click the yellow “Pre-order” button beside each and will add to your cart. Their individual pages, however, will not load yet – at Best Buy. You can find the Batman Anthology box set already available to pre-order over at Warner’s WBShop. WBShop also has each film available to pre-order and here are the individual links: Batman / Batman Returns / Batman Forever / Batman & Robin. Lastly, the retailer Barnes & Noble has the box set and all four films available to pre-order as well.

EDITOR NOTE: Honestly, it’s a true shame that the cover art for these films is this boring. Fans are not liking it one bit on social media and perhaps Warner should have considered just using the original poster art instead.

“Batman: The Complete Animated Series” on Blu-ray pushed back to October 30th

batman_the_complete_animated_series_bluray.png
Today Warner officially announced that the upcoming (previously announced) release of Batman: The Complete Animated Series Deluxe Limited Edition on Blu-ray Disc has been pushed back two weeks, now slated to come out on October 30th. The original details on the release were reported but I’m going to go back over them as some things have changed and a new press release has been issued. It’s also not just the release date changing for this release either, as another change comes in  that a Digital Copy of the entire series has now been added to the release.

Also today the studio (Warner) released a promotional video showing the restored footage of the opening title sequence from the show, that you can find further below (or directly on YouTube).

The series is available for PRE-ORDER over at Amazon now with a reduced price from its suggested retail. The “deluxe limited edition” packaging here includes three collectible Funko Pop! figurines of “Batman”, “Harley Quinn”, and “The Joker” (as pictured). Also included are seven lenticular art cards, and the 12-disc set is “housed in a stunning layflat-book with a dazzling slipcase” – according to the studio.

Tech specs for the release have still not been fully detailed but I have reached out to get those. You can find the new video of the restored opening titles, info regarding the contents, and bonus materials set to be included on the box set further below, after the break, in the form of the official announcement from today.

“Superman” Movie from 1978 is getting 4K restoration with a possible 4K release

Screen Shot 2018-07-23 at 4.20.58 PM

So, I’ve let this develop a bit more so it’s not even a “rumor” so much as it is, at this point, a very exciting fact. The original classic 1978 Richard Donner directed film Superman starring the late Christopher Reeve and Margot Kidder is being restored currently at Warner in 4K. Not only are the visual elements of the original film negatives being remastered (restored) but also the sound mix (as of a 4 hours ago) has been confirmed to be getting remastered as well. All of of this wonderful news comes from the Twitter account of CapedWonder Superman Imagery. You’ll find their tweets below and all credits for photos go respectively to them. This could see a possible 4K UHD Blu-ray release later this year, it’s pretty much a given. There’s no way that Warner would just opt to release this only on 2K (Blu-ray Disc), when so much effort is being put into this 4K restoration. Also, did I mention that the film is celebrating its 40th anniversary of sorts this year? Yeah, that makes me think we could see it come to both 4K and Blu-ray later in the year. Stay tuned for more updates both here and on twitter. Below, after the break, you’ll find some select tweets from CapedWonder Superman Imagery on their twitter (as mentioned above).
