Dirty Work gets a standard 4K release in July

The 1998 film Dirty Work is getting a standard 4K UHD Blu-ray release on July 29th via Vinegar Syndrome. The movie was directed by Bob Saget and was co-written by Norm MacDonald. It starred Norm MacDonald, Artie Lange, Jack Warden, Don Rickles, Traylor Howard, and Christopher McDonald. It also featured appearances by Chevy Chase and Chris Farley. NOTE: This was originally released exclusively online from the distributor, but will now be available elsewhere.

The movie has been newly scanned & restored in 4K from its 35mm OCN [Original Camera Negative]. The release will come in a 3-disc set. The 4K tech specs include a 2160p video presentation in the 1.85:1 aspect ratio with Dolby Vision and HDR10 forms of high dynamic range with DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 surround sound, on a BD-100 disc. The “combo pack” release will include its Blu-ray Disc counterpart [in 1080p HD]. Another Blu-ray will be included for bonus materials. A total of three versions of the film are included with this release. The 82-minute theatrical cut and 83-minute “Dirtier Cut” are both in 4K and HD on the Blu-ray. There’s also a 2-hour “Assembly Cut” of the movie, sourced from video. Details about that are further below.

The 1978 film Foul Play comes to 4K in April

The 1978 film “Foul Play” is coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray on April 22nd via KL Studio Classics. Also, a Special Edition Blu-ray will be released on the same date. The film was written & directed by Colin Higgins. It starred Goldie Hawn and Chevy Chase. Other cast members included Burgess MeredithDudley Moore, and Marilyn Sokol. William FrankfatherRachel RobertsBilly Barty, and the late Brian Dennehy were also part of the cast.

The movie has received a new master from a 4K scan of the 35mm original camera negative. The tech specs for the 4K include a 2160p video presentation in the 1.85:1 aspect ratio with Dolby Vision (or HDR10) and lossless audio, on a BD-100 disc. Tech specs for the Special Edition Blu-ray include a 1080p HD video presentation and lossless audio, on a BD-50 disc. The exact details about the audio configuration(s) and format(s) have yet to be announced, but stay tuned for an update.

The 4K UHD Blu-ray and Special Edition Blu-ray are available for preorder at Amazon. Also, you can preorder directly via Kino Lorber’s website. 1989 film Christmas Vacation on 4K in November

The 1989 film “National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation” is coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray on November 1st via Warner Bros. Home Entertainment, according to numerous retail sources.  The film, written by the legendary late John Hughes and directed by Jeremiah S. Chechik, starred Chevy Chase, Beverly D’Angelo, Juliette Lewis, Johnny Galecki, Randy Quaid, Miriam Flynn, John Randolph, Diane Ladd, E.G. Marshall, Doris Roberts, Mae Questel, William Hickey, Nicholas Guest, and Julia Louis-Dreyfus.

The tech specs for the release include a 2160p video presentation in the 1.85:1 aspect ratio with DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 lossless surround sound as well as 2.0 Stereo (presumably also lossless).  The release will come in the form of a “combo pack” meaning that it will come with its Blu-ray Disc counterpart as well as include a digital code (copy) of the film which is compatible with Movies Anywhere.

You can now find the 4K UHD Blu-ray available for preorder over at Amazon as well as retailers Best Buy, Target, and Walmart.  It’s also worth noting for our UK audience that the film will be coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray there on 7 November and is available now for preorder over at Amazon UK.  The bonus materials will be all just the previous DVD and Blu-ray extras ported over.  These limited extras include:

The 1978 comedy Foul Play starring Goldie Hawn and Chevy Chase is coming to Blu-ray Disc on February 8th, 2022 via Paramount Home Entertainment. The film, written & directed by Colin Higgins, co-starred Burgess Meredith, Dudley Moore, Marilyn Sokol, William Frankfather, Rachel Roberts, Billy Barty, and the late Brian Dennehy.

The tech specs for the Blu-ray and bonus materials have not yet been detailed, but stay tuned possibly for an update on that soon. You can now find the Blu-ray available for preorder over at Amazon. This will be the first time that the film has been available in the Blu-ray Disc format.

1991 comedy Nothing But Trouble on Blu-ray in October

The 1991 comedy Nothing But Trouble is coming to Blu-ray Disc (for the first time) on October 26th, via Shout Select (Shout! Factory). The film, directed and co-written by Dan Aykroyd, starred Chevy Chase, Dan Aykroyd, John Candy, Demi Moore, Taylor Negron, and Bertila Damas.

1974 cult-classic The Groove Tube comes to Blu-ray in May

The 1974 cult-classic comedy “The Groove Tube” is finally coming to Blu-ray Disc on May 25th via Hen’s Tooth Video. The film, directed and co-written by Ken Shapiro, starred Chevy Chase, Richard Belzer, and Ken Shapiro. The tech specs for the release include a 1080p HD presentation in the original 1.85:1 aspect ratio from a new 4K restoration, as detailed and quoted below. No word yet on the audio configuration or format.

“Restoration by Gamma Ray Digital from a 4K scan of 35mm archival film materials in the collections of the Library of Congress.”
