The Andy Griffith Show Complete Season on Blu-ray

Amazon Commissions Earned

The Andy Griffith Show: The Complete Series is finally coming to Blu-ray Disc on December 7th, via CBS Home Entertainment and Paramount Home Entertainment. The show had previously received a Blu-ray release of the first season back in 2014, but no further seasons ever followed. Now, with this “complete series” release you’ll get all 249 episodes, a total of eight seasons, spanning across a 32-disc set. The show aired on CBS from 1960 through 1968, where it started in Black & White and eventually transitioned over to Color. It starred Andy Griffith, Ron Howard, Frances Bavier, Don Knotts, George Lindsey, Howard McNear, Jack Dodson, Hal Smith, Jim Nabors, as well as eventually Jack Dodson and Jack Burns.

The tech specs for this set have not yet been officially detailed, however looking back on the first season (if it’s any indication of what to expect), it should be presented in 1080p HD video in the 1.33:1 aspect ratio with Dolby Digital 2.0 Mono sound. You can now find the Blu-ray set available for preorder over at Amazon as well as at retailers Best Buy and Target.

There are no details (yet) about the bonus materials set to be included with the set, but it should include the extras from Season 1 which (as aforementioned) had been previously released on the Blu-ray format. Those extras included the following for the first season:

  • “Danny Meets Andy Griffith” (From “The Danny Thomas Show” Season 7)
  • The Howards’ On-set Home Movies
  • Original Sponsor Spots On Select Episodes
  • Return to Mayberry Television Movie
  • “Person to Person” Interview with Andy Griffith

Stay tuned for any updates on the further bonus materials set to be included with the complete series set. These likely should be identical to what is found on the DVD releases for each season.

The TV show Star Trek: Enterprise – The Complete Series is coming to Blu-ray Disc as a box set on September 21st via CBS Home Entertainment and Paramount Home Entertainment. There’s no official release announcement yet, but stay tuned for a possible update on that. The show starred Scott Bakula, John Billingsley, Jolene Blalock, Dominic Keating, Anthony Montgomery, Linda Park, and Connor Trinneer.

Tech specs should, judging from previous releases, include 1080p HD video in the 1.78:1 aspect ratio and DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 lossless surround sound for each season, spanning across a 24-disc set. You can find the Blu-ray set now available for preorder over at Amazon. There’s no official word yet on what all bonus materials you can expect, but I’d say you can expect all of the previous extras ported over or just repackaged. Stay tuned, again, for more details about this release as I get them. NOTE: All four seasons of the show have previously been individually released on the Blu-ray Disc format, so this set is technically a re-release.

Original Peanuts films get Snoopy Collection Blu-ray in May

Amazon Commissions Earned

The four original theatrical “Peanuts” films featuring “Charlie Brown” and “Snoopy” will be getting a special release that’s being called the “Snoopy Collection” on Blu-ray Disc on May 18th, via Paramount Home Entertainment and CBS Home Entertainment. The set will officially include the following four feature-length films:

  • “A Boy Named Charlie Brown” (1969)
  • “Snoopy Come Home” (1972)
  • “Race for Your Life, Charlie Brown” (1977) *
  • “Bon Voyage, Charlie Brown (and Don’t Come Back!!)” (1980) *

Bill Melendez directed all four films and the last two were co-directed by Phil Roman. The tech specs for each of the films in the Blu-ray set have not yet been detailed, but I’d speculate you will see all four films in their original aspect ratios with 5.1 surround sound and perhaps their original 2.0 Stereo sound mixes. We shall soon hopefully know for certain. That’s where I’ll point out that this title actually has not yet been officially announced, so hopefully, we will get more details on those tech specs soon or I’ll ask the studio (and/or CBS) tomorrow. In the meantime, you can find the Blu-ray set is already available for preorder over at Amazon. UPDATE: This title has now been officially announced by Paramount. No bonus materials appear to be included with the release. I’m awaiting a reply from the studio regarding the tech specs such as the audio format(s) and aspect ratios for the four films. Stay tuned for an update!

Lastly, it is worth noting (and was *) that two of these, the latter films, will be making their debut to the Blu-ray Disc format with this release. Furthermore, one would believe that these two are essentially exclusives for it now. The first two films were previously released on Blu-ray both individually and together back in 2016.

Below, after the break, you can now find the official announcement regarding this home video release.
