The 1992 film “Army of Darkness” is officially coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray on September 27th via Scream Factory (Shout! Factory).  The film, directed and co-written by Sam Raimi, starred Bruce Campbell, Embeth Davidtz, Marcus Gilbert, Ian Abercrombie, Bridget Fonda, and Richard Grove.  The release will come in the form of a 4-disc “combo pack” with several Blu-ray Discs of the film included along with extras.  There will be a standard 4K UHD Bluray (pictured above) and then also a limited-edition 4K UHD Blu-ray SteelBook (pictured below).

The tech specs for the 4K releases include a 2160p video presentation in various aspect ratios and presumably with HDR10 (at least) and Dolby Atmos and the original 5.1 and 2.0 stereo lossless mixes. However, it has yet to be confirmed by Shout! Factory.  So, stay tuned for an update on that and regarding other details.

You can now find both the 4K UHD Blu-ray and the 4K UHD Blu-ray SteelBook available for preorder over at Amazon and also directly [with bonuses] directly via the ShoutFactory.com store.  According to Shout! Factory, the extras [bonus materials] are “currently in progress” and will be announced at a later point.  So, as mentioned, stay tuned for an update regarding these 4K releases of the film.

Sam Raimi’s “The Evil Dead” with Bruce Campbell on 4K UHD Blu-ray in October

the_evil_dead_4k
The 1981 Sam Raimi film The Evil Dead starring Bruce Campbell is officially coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray on October 9th via Lionsgate. Tech specs for the release include full 2160p 4K video presented in both the 16×9 aspect ratio (1.85:1) and the original 4×3 aspect ratio (1.33:1) in both Dolby Vision and HDR10 forms of High Dynamic Range. The audio set to be included on the release is sadly just Dolby TrueHD 5.1 – the exact as offered up on the previous Blu-ray. A bit of a step in the wrong direction there, it would seem.

UPDATE: The release is now available for PRE-ORDER over at Amazon and Best Buy.

Bonus materials set to be included on the release appear to be identical to the previous Blu-ray release, in fact this will come in the form of a “combo pack” with a Blu-ray Disc and Digital Copy of the film included. In the meantime, you can check out our Blu-ray Screenshots from the original release, in both aspect ratios, and including DVD comparisons. Further info about the upcoming 4K release can be found below, after the break, from the official announcement.

RUMOR: “Evil Dead II” is headed to 4K UHD Blu-ray in late October

evil_dead_2_4k_uk_steelbook

UPDATE: It now also appears that either the original 1981 film or the 2013 film (Evil Dead) will also be coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray in October as well. It’s a bit confusing at this point, and still a rumor.

According to an early alert to UK retailer Zavvi, a 4K UHD Blu-ray Steelbook is going to be released of the 1987 Sam Raimi directed film “Evil Dead II” on October 29th in the UK via StudioCanal. It’s likely we will see this 4K UHD Blu-ray release come stateside around that time, probably right before Halloween. My guess would be we will see it released by Lionsgate in the United States on either October 23rd or October 30th, as they both fall on Tuesdays and are right before Halloween. As with all “rumors” take this with a grain of salt so-to-speak until we see official confirmation. Stay tuned for further updates. This news was originally reported by Bloody Disgusting.
