1978 film National Lampoon’s Animal House on 4K in May

The 1978 film “National Lampoon’s Animal House” will be officially coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray on May 18th via Universal Studios Home Entertainment. The film, directed by John Landis and co-written by the late Harold Ramis, starred John BelushiKaren AllenTom Hulce, Tim Matheson, Martha Smith, James Daughton, Douglas Kenney, Peter Riegert, and Kevin Bacon. The tech specs for the 4K release include a 2160p presentation in the 1.85:1 aspect ratio with HDR10 form of High Dynamic Range and DTS:X sound on a BD-100 disc. The release will come in the form of a “combo pack” meaning that it’ll include its Blu-ray Disc counterpart and a digital code (copy) of the film. You can now find the standard 4K UHD Blu-ray release available for preorder over at Amazon.

It’s most certainly worth noting that, it appears, an exclusive 4K UHD Blu-ray SteelBook release of the film will be available over at retailer Best Buy (pictured below) on the same date. Speaking of which, you can now find that 4K SteelBook of the film listed as coming soon over at Best Buy but not yet as a functional preorder. I would expect that should be changing very soon, so stay tuned to its listing, if you’re looking to preorder the SteelBook.

The Birds is getting a standard 4K and SteelBook in May

The 1963 classic film “The Birds” directed by Alfred Hitchcock will be getting both an individual standard 4K UHD Blu-ray release (pictured above) and a 4K UHD Blu-ray SteelBook release (pictured below) on May 25th via Universal Studios Home Entertainment, according to retailers. The tech specs for the 4K release include a video presentation in the 1.85:1 aspect ratio with HDR10 form of high dynamic range and the original Mono in a lossless DTS-HD Master Audio 2.0 sound mix.

This film itself was previously released on the 4K format last September as a part of a Hitchcock-themed 4K set. Hitchcock’s 1963 film starred Rod TaylorTippi HedrenJessica Tandy, and Suzanne Pleshette. Both the standard and the new 4K SteelBook will come in the form of a “combo pack” meaning they’ll include the Blu-ray Disc counterpart as well as a digital code (copy) of the film.

This will include 2 versions of the film with “Psycho Uncut” (an extended cut as seen originally in theaters) as well as the standard version mostly seen in TV broadcasts and for the theatrical re-releases and on previous releases on physical media. The tech specs for the 4K release include a Black & White video presentation in the 1.85:1 aspect ratio with HDR10 form of high dynamic range and DTS:X sound as well as the original Mono mix presented in 2.0 Dolby Digital.

Last Action Hero with Schwarzenegger comes to 4K in May

The 1993 film “Last Action Hero” is officially coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray on May 18th, via Sony Pictures Home Entertainment. The 4K release will come in the form of a limited edition SteelBook. The film, directed by John McTiernan, starred Arnold Schwarzenegger, Austin O’Brien, F. Murray AbrahamArt Carney, Charles Dance, Tom Noonan, Robert Prosky, Anthony Quinn, and Ian McKellen. The tech specs for the 4K release include a newly remastered 2160p video presentation in the 2.39:1 aspect ratio with HDR10 form of high dynamic range and Dolby Atmos as well as the original 2.0 theatrical mix and a 5.1 surround sound mix. The 1998 comedy “A Night at the Roxbury” is coming to Blu-ray Disc on May 25th via Paramount Home Entertainment. The film, based on a reoccurring skit from “SNL” (“Saturday Night Live”) was directed by John Fortenberry, starred Will Ferrell and Chris Kattan. The film, written & directed by John Lee Hancock, features a cast of Denzel WashingtonRami Malek, and Jared Leto. The tech specs for the Blu-ray include a 1080p HD presentation in the 2.39:1 aspect ratio with DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 surround sound. The release will come with a digital code (copy) of the film.
