The 2021 film Those Who Wish Me Dead starring Angelina Jolie is officially coming to Blu-ray Disc on August 3rd, via Warner Bros. Home Entertainment. The film, directed by Taylor Sheridan, co-stars Jon Bernthal, Nicholas Hoult, Jake Weber, Finn Little, Aidan Gillen, Medina Senghore, and Tyler Perry. The tech specs for the Blu-ray release include a 1080p HD video presentation and DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 surround sound. The release will come with a digital code (copy) of the film via Movies Anywhere. You can now find the Blu-ray available for preorder over at Amazon. There will only be one bonus feature on this release, called “Making Those Who Wish Me Dead.”

Spiral comes to 4K UHD Blu-ray and Blu-ray in July

2021 film “Spiral” starring Chris Rock is coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray and Blu-ray Disc on July 20th, via Lionsgate, according to multiple retailers. The film, the latest in the from the book of “SAW” franchise, directed by Darren Lynn Bousman, co-stars Samuel L. JacksonMax Minghella, and Marisol Nichols. The tech specs for the release have not been fully detailed yet, aside from both getting Dolby Atmos sound, for the 4K and Blu-ray releases but stay tuned for an update. The releases will both come in the form of a “combo pack” meaning that the 4K will come with its Blu-ray counterpart, the Blu-ray will come with a DVD, and both will include a digital code (copy) of the film. You can now find the standard 4K UHD Blu-ray and Blu-ray available to preorder over at Amazon.

It’s also known that retailer Best Buy will be getting an exclusive 4K UHD Blu-ray SteelBook (pictured below) which you can now find available for preorder over there.

Columbia Classics 4K Collection Volume 2 in October

There will be a Columbia Classics 4K Ultra HD Collection Volume 2 coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray on October 12th via Sony Pictures Home Entertainment. The limited edition 6-film collection will include the following films:

  • “Anatomy of a Murder” (1959)
  • “Oliver!” (1968)
  • “Taxi Driver” (1976)
  • “Stripes” (1981)
  • “Sense and Sensibility” (1995)
  • “The Social Network” (2010)

These six different films spanning decades have all received 4K restorations and will be getting new sound mixes unless otherwise noted below. All of the films will be presented in 4K resolution with HDR10 form of high dynamic range. And, two films (“Taxi Driver” and “The Social Network”) will be presented in Dolby Vision form of HDR as well. All of the films with the exception of one (“Taxi Driver”) will also get new Dolby Atmos sound mixes as well as their original 5.1 and in some cases Mono lossless mixes. All of the details regarding those tech specs and such can be found a bit further below. All six films will get a digital code (copy) for each in 4K, via Movies Anywhere.

UPDATE: The release date has been pushed back yet again (to 10/12), from its originally slated 9/14 release. You can now find the 4K UHD Blu-ray set available for preorder over at Amazon. Via that preorder listing, you can find a hi-res image glimpse at the interior of the packaging (seen below).

The release will come with some physical extras in the form of an 80-page booklet and a bonus Blu-ray Disc that will feature 20 classic Columbia Pictures shorts in HD for the first time, including “The Three Stooges – Disorder in the Court” from 1936. The booklet will include six essays about each of the films and are detailed below.

“… six all-new incisive essays from renowned writers Julie Kirgo, John Kenrick, Glenn Kenny, Michael G. McDunnah, Kayti Burt and Nev Pierce.”

The Dead Zone Collector’s Edition Blu-ray in July

The 1983 film adaptation of Stephen King‘s The Dead Zone starring Christopher Walken will be getting a “Collector’s Edition” Blu-ray Disc release on July 27th via Scream Factory. The film, directed by David Cronenberg, co-starred Brooke Adams, Tom Skerritt, Herbert Lom, Anthony Zerbe, and Martin Sheen.

The movie has received a NEW 2021 4K scan of the original camera negative” according to Shout! Factory. So far, the exact tech specs have not yet been fully detailed, aside from being in 1080p HD and in the 1.85:1 aspect ratio, but stay tuned for an update on what sound configuration(s) it will receive. You can find the Collector’s Edition Blu-ray available for preorder now over at Amazon as well as directly via ShoutFactory.com. Today they [Shout! 1976 film Bugsy Malone makes its Blu-ray debut in August

The 1976 film Bugsy Malone will officially be getting a Blu-ray Disc release on August 31st as part of the Paramount Presents line, via Paramount Home Entertainment. This will be the very first time that the movie has been available in the Blu-ray format. The film, written & directed by Alan Parker, starred Jodie Foster, Scott Baio, Florence Garland, and John Cassisi. The movie has been remastered from the original elements. Tech specs for the release have not yet been fully detailed, but stay tuned for an update. The release will come with a digital code (copy) of the film. You can now find this Paramount Presents Blu-ray available for preorder over at Amazon. This release, set to be spine number 23 in the Paramount Presents line, will come with a collectible slipcover that folds out into the original movie poster (pictured below).

Labyrinth gets 35th Anniversary 4K release in August

The 1986 film “Labyrinth” will officially be getting a “35th Anniversary Edition” 4K UHD Blu-ray release on August 17th via Sony Pictures Home Entertainment. The film, directed & co-written by Jim Henson and executive produced by George Lucas, featured a live-action cast that included David BowieJennifer ConnellyToby Froud, Shelley Thompson, and Christopher Malcolm and featured the voice talents of Shari Weiser, Brian Henson, and Dave Goelz.

This film has been available on the 4K UHD Blu-ray format since 2016, when it got another anniversary release, however, this new version on 4K will come with some new things. First off, the tech specs include a 2.39:1 aspect ratio 2160p video presentation from a 4K remaster with HDR10 and Dolby Vision (for the first time) as well as Dolby Atmos, DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 theatrical, and DTS-HD Master Audio 2.0 Stereo sound.

The new 35th Anniversary 4K release will come in the form of a “combo pack” meaning that you’ll get the Blu-ray Disc counterpart and a digital code (copy) of the film included.

UPDATE: as of now, you can find the 35th Anniversary Edition 4K UHD Blu-ray available for preorder over at Amazon. Also, it can be found listed for preorder over at retailer Target. This new release will come with the physical extra of being a DigiBook (digital booklet) that is 28 pages in length. It also will feature some new never-before-released extras and screentests. The bonus materials set to be included with this 2-disc 35th Anniversary Edition 4K UHD Blu-ray are listed below, disc-by-disc, in terms of their contents.
