The Haunting of Bly Manor on Blu-ray in October

The 2020 TV series The Haunting of Bly Manor is coming to Blu-ray Disc on October 12th via Paramount Home Entertainment. The TV series, as seen streaming on Netflix and created by Mike Flanagan, starred Victoria Pedretti, Oliver Jackson-Cohen, Amelia Eve, T’Nia Miller, Rahul Kohli, Tahirah Sharif, Amelie Bea Smith, Kate Siegel, and Henry Thomas.

The tech specs for the Blu-ray set have not yet been detailed but you can expect 1080p HD video in the 2.00:1 aspect ratio with likely a lossless 5.1 surround sound mix, spanning across a 3-disc set (as the artwork’s spine indicates). However, stay tuned for an update on tech specs for this release. You can now find the Blu-ray available for preorder over at Amazon. The bonus materials set to be included with this release are listed below.

The Stand 2020 TV adaptation on Blu-ray in October

The 2020 TV series adaptation of Stephen King‘s The Stand is officially coming to Blu-ray Disc on October 5th, via CBS Home Entertainment and Paramount Home Entertainment. The TV series, as seen on Paramount Plus (formerly CBS All Access), starred James Marsden, Odessa Young, Alexander Skarsgård, Amber Heard, Jovan Adepo, Owen Teague, Brad William Henke, Henry Zaga, Ezra Miller, Greg Kinnear, and Whoopi Goldberg.

UPDATE: The tech specs for the release include a 1080p HD video presentation in the 2.39:1 aspect ratio and DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 lossless surround sound, spanning across what seems to be a 3-disc set. Stay tuned for an update, as I’ve asked CBS for more info in regards to those specifics.

According to multiple retailer listings, the 1954 film Rear Window directed by Alfred Hitchcock is coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray individually on September 7th, via Universal. The film starred James Stewart, Grace Kelly, Wendell Corey, Thelma Ritter, Raymond Burr, Judith Evelyn, Ross Bagdasarian, Georgine Darcy, Sara Berner, Frank Cady, Jesslyn Fax, and Irene Winston.

NOTE: This film had previously been released on the 4K UHD Blu-ray format in a box set, The Alfred Hitchcock Classics Collection from 2020.

The tech specs for the release include a 2160p video presentation in the 1.66:1 aspect ratio with HDR10 form of high dynamic range and DTS-HD Master Audio 2.0 Mono lossless sound, on a BD-100 disc. The release will come in the form of a “combo pack” meaning that it will include the Blu-ray Disc counterpart as well as a digital code (copy) of the film. You can now find the standard individual 4K UHD Blu-ray of the film available for preorder over at Amazon. There will also be a 4K UHD Blu-ray SteelBook of this film available as an exclusive over at retailer Best Buy (pictured below) which is not yet functional as a preorder. The 1982 remake of The Thing is coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray on September 7th, via Universal, according to numerous retailer listings. The film, directed by John Carpenter, starred Kurt Russell, Wilford Brimley, T.K. Carter, Keith David, David Clennon, Richard Dysart, Charles Hallahan, Peter Maloney, Richard Masur, Joel Polis, and Donald Moffat.

The tech specs for the release include a 2160p video presentation in the 2.35:1 aspect ratio with HDR10 form of high dynamic range and DTS:X immersive sound, on a BD-100 disc. The release will come in the form of a “combo pack” with its original Blu-ray Disc counterpart as well as include a digital code (copy) of the film, which is compatible with Movies Anywhere. You can now find the 4K UHD Blu-ray available for preorder over at Amazon, as well as listed (but not yet as a functional preorder) over at retailer Best Buy.

Just a reminder, to my knowledge, this release has not yet been officially announced by the studio. Or, perhaps one of the public relations firms forgot to include me in the loop? That being said, consider this still a rumor with a whole lot to back it up at this point. I don’t want to upset the studio (Universal) here, but it’s pretty obvious that this title is coming at this point.

1991 film Drop Dead Fred comes to Blu-ray in September

The 1991 film Drop Dead Fred is officially coming to Blu-ray Disc on September 28th via Severin Films, distributed by MVD Entertainment Group. The film, directed by Ate de Jong, starred Phoebe Cates, Rik Mayall, Marsha Mason, Tim Matheson, and Carrie Fisher. The tech specs for the release include a 1080p HD video presentation in the 1.85:1 aspect ratio from a new 2K scan (as quoted below) and Stereo sound, likely in a lossless format.

“… now scanned in 2K with all-new Special Features for the first time ever in America.”

1990 film adaptation of Misery is coming to 4K in October

The 1990 film adaptation of Stephen King‘s Misery is officially coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray on October 12th via KL Studio Classics. The film, directed by Rob Reiner, starred James Caan, Kathy Bates, Richard FarnsworthFrances Sternhagen, and Lauren Bacall. KL Studio Classics just announced this on Facebook in a post less than an hour ago.

The tech specs include a 2160p 4K video presentation in the 1.85:1 aspect ratio with HDR10 and Dolby Vision forms of high dynamic range as well as lossless 5.1 surround and 2.0 Stereo sound mixes, set to be on a BD-100 disc. The release will come in the form of a “combo pack” meaning that it will also include its Blu-ray Disc counterpart (in 1080p HD) as well as the bonus materials. It will also come in with a limited-edition slipcover (pictured above).
