The 1981 film Excalibur comes to 4K in February

The movie features a new 4K restoration from the original 35mm negative. The tech specs for the 4K UHD Blu-ray include a 2160p video presentation in a 1.66:1 aspect ratio, in SDR (standard dynamic range), with lossless DTS-HD Master Audio Mono and 5.1 surround sound configurations. The Blu-ray version’s tech specs include a 1080p HD video presentation in a 1.66:1 aspect ratio with DTS-HD MA Mono and 5.1 surround sound. The release will be a 3-disc set for each format. The tech specs for the Blu-ray include a 1080p HD video presentation in a 2.39:1 aspect ratio with a lossless 5.1 surround sound mix, presumably in either DTS-HD MA or Dolby TrueHD — although yet to be confirmed. It did actually get a Dolby Atmos mix in select theaters, so don’t rule it out as being possible. Stay tuned for an update on the sound format. The release will include a digital code (copy).
