The 1981 film Excalibur comes to 4K in February

The 1981 film “Excalibur” is coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray and Blu-ray in Limited Edition sets via Arrow Video on February 24th in the United States. It will also be released on February 23rd in the United Kingdom. John Boorman directed the movie, which starred Nigel Terry, Helen Mirren, Nicholas Clay, Cherie Lunghi, Paul Geoffrey, and Robert Addie. It co-starred Nicol Williamson, Keith Buckley, Gabriel Byrne, Liam Neeson, and Patrick Stewart. It’s certainly worth noting that this film featured cutting-edge computer graphics for its time. Also, it received an Academy Award [“Oscar”] nomination for “Best Cinematography.”

The movie features a new 4K restoration from the original 35mm negative. The tech specs for the 4K UHD Blu-ray include a 2160p video presentation in a 1.66:1 aspect ratio, in SDR (standard dynamic range), with lossless DTS-HD Master Audio Mono and 5.1 surround sound configurations. The Blu-ray version’s tech specs include a 1080p HD video presentation in a 1.66:1 aspect ratio with DTS-HD MA Mono and 5.1 surround sound. The release will be a 3-disc set for each format. RomCom Regretting You on Blu-ray in February

The 2025 romantic comedy “Regretting You“ is officially coming to Blu-ray Disc on February 17th via Paramount. Josh Boone directed the movie, which starred Allison Williams, Mckenna Grace, Dave Franco, and Mason Thames. The movie co-stars Scott Eastwood, Clancy Brown, and Willa Fitzgerald.

The tech specs for the Blu-ray include a 1080p HD video presentation in a 2.39:1 aspect ratio with a lossless 5.1 surround sound mix, presumably in either DTS-HD MA or Dolby TrueHD — although yet to be confirmed. It did actually get a Dolby Atmos mix in select theaters, so don’t rule it out as being possible. Stay tuned for an update on the sound format. The release will include a digital code (copy).

Friday the 13th: Part 2 comes to 4K in February

The 1981 horror sequel “Friday the 13th: Part 2“ is coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray on February 3rd via Paramount. NOTE: The movie was earlier released as part of the “Paramount Scares: Volume 2“ 4K UHD Blu-ray box set in 2024. However, this will be the first time that it is available individually on the 4K UHD Blu-ray physical media format. Steve Miner directed the movie. It starred Amy Steel, John Furey, Adrienne King, Kirsten Baker, Stuart Charno, and Tom McBride. The cast also included Walt Gorney and Betsy Palmer.

The tech specs for the 4K UHD Blu-ray include a 2160p video presentation in a 1.85:1 aspect ratio with Dolby Vision (HDR10 compatible) and lossless Dolby TrueHD 5.1 surround sound. The release will come as a 2-disc “combo pack” with its Blu-ray Disc counterpart, along with a digital copy [AppleTV compatible] included.

TRON: Ares is coming to 4K and Blu-ray in January

The 2025 film “Tron: Ares” is coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray, 4K UHD Blu-ray SteelBook, and Blu-ray on January 6th via Disney. Joachim Rønning directed this sequel, which featured original music by Nine Inch Nails. It stars Jared Leto, Greta Lee, Jeff Bridges, Evan Peters, Jodie Turner-Smith, Gillian Anderson, Hasan Minhaj, and Cameron Monaghan.

The tech specs for the 4K UHD Blu-ray include a 2160p video presentation in a 2.39:1 aspect ratio with Dolby Vision (HDR10 compatible), on a BD-66 disc, with Dolby Atmos sound. Tech specs for the Blu-ray include a 1080p HD video presentation in a 2.39:1 aspect ratio and DTS-HD Master Audio 7.1 lossless surround sound, on a BD-50 disc. The 4K UHD Blu-ray releases will come as a 2-disc “combo pack” with their Blu-ray Disc counterpart included. The 2012 film “End of Watch“ is coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray SteelBook on January 20th via Shout! Studios. David Ayer directed, produced, and wrote the movie. It starred Jake Gyllenhaal, Michael Peña, Anna Kendrick, David Harbour, Natalie Martinez, Frank Grillo, and America Ferrera. It’s certainly worth noting that, still to this day, the movie carries a “Certified Fresh” rating based on critics’ reviews at Rotten Tomatoes.

The 2007 film “1408“ is coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray SteelBook, exclusively at Amazon, on January 13th via Lionsgate. The movie, based on a short story by Stephen King, was directed by Mikael Håfström. The movie starred John Cusack, Samuel L. Jackson, Mary McCormack, and Tony Shalhoub.

The release will include both the theatrical and director’s cuts of the movie, each in 4K on its own individual 4K disc. Technical specifications for the 4K UHD Blu-ray [Discs] include a 2160p video presentation in a 2.39:1 aspect ratio with Dolby Vision (HDR10 compatible).
