Batman Year One commemorative 4K in November

The 2011 animated DC Universe Movie “Batman: Year One“ will be getting a “Commemorative Edition” released to the 4K UHD Blu-ray format on November 9th via Warner Bros. Home Entertainment. The film, co-directed by Sam Liu and Lauren Montgomery, featured the voice talents of Ben McKenzie, Bryan Cranston, Eliza Dushku, Jeff Bennett, Jon Polito, Alex Rocco, Katee Sackhoff, Grey Griffin, Robin Atkin Downes, and Stephen Root.

The tech specs for the release include a 2160p video presentation in the 1.78:1 aspect ratio with HDR10 form of high dynamic range and the same lossless DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 sound mix that was found on the previously released [2011] Blu-ray. This set will come in the form of a “combo pack” meaning that it will include its Blu-ray Disc counterpart as well as a digital code (copy) of the film — compatible with Movies Anywhere.

The bonus materials set to be included with this release are listed below.

  • NEW Featurette – Reinventing Gordon – An examination of the history of James Gordon through comics, animation, and feature films.
  • Featurette – Conversations with DC Comics – The Batman creative team at DC discusses the personal influence of Batman: Year One on their careers. Batman producer Michael Uslan leads the chat amongst well-known writers, editors, and artists of Batman lore, focusing on the darker, realistic interpretation of Batman’s origins by Frank Miller and David Mazzucchelli.
  • Audio Commentary – Featuring co-producer Alan Burnett, co-director Sam Liu, DC creative director Mike Carlin and casting/dialogue director Andrea Romano.
  • Featurette – Heart of Vengeance: Returning Batman to His Roots – “The Dark Knight Returns” provided the denouement of Batman’s life. Frank Miller’s next seminal work would provide his near-mythic origin in “Batman: Year One.” This documentary spotlights the contemporary genius of Miller and the audience that was poised to appreciate the depths of his work.
  • DC Showcase – Catwoman (2011 Animated Short) – The felonious feline’s adventure takes her through the seedy streets of Gotham City. Eliza Dushku reprises her Batman: Year One role as the voice of Catwoman. The short is directed by Lauren Montgomery (Batman: Year One) from a script by Paul Dini (Batman: The Animated Series).

The Wolf of Wall Street coming to 4K in December

The 2013 film “The Wolf of Wall Street“ is officially coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray on December 14th via Paramount Home Entertainment. The film, directed by Martin Scorsese and based on a true story, starred Leonardo DiCaprio, Jonah Hill, Margot Robbie, Matthew McConaughey, Kyle Chandler, Rob Reiner, Jon Bernthal, and Jon Favreau.

The movie has received a new transfer that was supervised by the director, Martin Scorsese. The tech specs for the release have not yet all been detailed but stay tuned for an update. The 2160p video presentation should at least include HDR10 form of high dynamic range. The release will come with a digital code (copy) of the film. You can now find the standard 4K UHD Blu-ray available for preorder over at Amazon. It’s also worth noting that a limited edition 4K UHD Blu-ray SteelBook (pictured below) will be available on the same date.

UPDATE: This 4K UHD Blu-ray SteelBook is now available for preorder over at Amazon and is listed as “coming soon” over at retailer Best Buy.

1978 film I Spit on Your Grave gets a 4K in October

The 1978 cult-classic horror film “I Spit on Your Grave“ is officially coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray in a limited edition release on October 26th via Ronin Flix. The film, written and directed by Meir Zarchi, starred Camille Keaton, Eron Tabor, Richard Pace, Anthony Nichols, and Gunter Kleemann. The movie has a new 2020 4K scan and restoration, from the original camera negative, and the Mono audio sound mix has also been restored from the uncut version — as detailed below.

“Featuring a brand new 2021 4K HDR Remaster done by Ronin Flix  on 4K Ultra HD, the 2020 4K scan and restoration of director Meir Zarchi’s uncut 35mm original camera negative and the restored original mono soundtrack …”

This limited edition “combo pack” release will come with its Blu-ray Disc counterpart (as pictured below) as well as a Blu-ray bonus disc with a feature-length documentary and limited edition slipcover.

The tech specs for the 4K UHD Blu-ray include a 2160p video presentation in the original 1.85:1 aspect ratio with HDR10 form of high dynamic range as well as DTS-HD Master Audio Mono, DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 surround, and DTS-HD Master Audio 2.0 Stereo sound options. The tech specs for the Blu-ray include a 1080p HD video presentation in the 1.85:1 aspect ratio with the same DTS-HD MA lossless sound mixes. You’ll have to order this title (it seems) directly via RoninFlix.com, where it is now available for preorder. There’s no sign of this release being available at any other retailers, but stay tuned for an update on that if it changes. The 2021 film “The Suicide Squad” is officially coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray and Blu-ray Disc on October 26th via Warner Bros. Home Entertainment. The film, written and directed by James Gunn, stars Margot Robbie, Idris Elba, Viola Davis, John Cena, Joel Kinnaman, Peter Capaldi, David Dastmalchian, Daniela Melchior, Michael Rooker, Alice Braga, Pete Davidson, Nathan Fillion, Flula Borg, Jai Courtney, Steve Agee, Sean Gunn, and features the voice of Sylvester Stallone.

UPDATED: The tech specs for the 4K UHD Blu-ray release include a 2160p video presentation in the 1.90:1 aspect ratio with HDR10, Dolby Vision, and HDR10+ forms of high dynamic range and Dolby Atmos sound. The tech specs for the Blu-ray include a 1080p HD video presentation in the same 1.90:1 aspect ratio and with the same Dolby Atmos sound. DC animated movie Injustice on 4K and Blu-ray October

The 2021 DC animated movie “Injustice” is officially coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray and Blu-ray Disc on October 19th via Warner Bros. Home Entertainment. The movie is an adaptation of the video game (“Injustice: Gods Among Us”) created by NeatherRealm Studios as well as the graphic novel. The film, directed by Matt Peters, features a voice cast of Justin Hartley, Anson Mount, Janet Varney, Brandon Micheal Hall, Kevin Pollak, Anika Noni Rose, Reid Scott, Edwin Hodge, and Gillian Jacobs.

The tech specs for the 4K and Blu-ray have yet to be fully detailed but stay tuned for an update.
