Terminator 2 Judgment Day 4K SteelBook in November

The 1991 film Terminator 2: Judgment Day will officially be getting a 30th-anniversary edition 4K UHD Blu-ray SteelBook release on November 23rd, via Lionsgate, as a retailer exclusive. More on that in a bit. The film, directed & co-written by James Cameron, starred Arnold Schwarzenegger, Linda Hamilton, Edward Furlong, Earl Boen, Joe Morton, and Robert Patrick.

This new 4K release will be using the 2017 restoration of the film, which was supervised by James Cameron. The official news just came yesterday via a post on Twitter which unveiled some more glimpses of the art (by Tracie Ching and Orlando Arocena). The exact tech specs and bonus materials for the release have not yet been fully detailed, but stay tuned for an update. The release will come in the form of a “combo pack” meaning that the 4K will come with its Blu-ray Disc counterpart and include a digital code (copy) of the film as well. As mentioned, and confirmed by the official tweet, this 4K UHD Blu-ray SteelBook will be an exclusive for retailer Best Buy, and you can now find it available there for preorder. More details on this release as they come in.

The Eyes of Tammy Faye on Blu-ray in November

The 2021 film “The Eyes of Tammy Faye” is officially coming to Blu-ray Disc on November 16th via Disney. The film, based on the true story & documentary (of the same title), directed by Michael Showalter, stars Jessica Chastain, Andrew Garfield, Cherry Jones, Mark Wystrach, Sam Jaeger, and Vincent D’Onofrio.

The tech specs for the Blu-ray include a 1080p HD video presentation in the 1.85:1 aspect ratio and DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 lossless surround sound. It should be noted that a 4K UHD digital version of the film will be available, but not physically. You cannot yet find the Blu-ray available for preorder at any retailers, but stay tuned for an update. The Blu-ray will come with a digital code (copy) of the film.

Marvel’s Shang-Chi on 4K and Blu-ray in November

The 2021 Marvel Studios film “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings” is officially coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray and Blu-ray Disc on November 30th via Disney. The film, based on Marvel Comics & directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, stars Simu Liu, Tony Leung, Awkwafina, Meng’er Zhang, Fala Chen, Michelle Yeoh, Yuen Wah, and Sir Ben Kingsley. It is most certainly worth noting that at the time of writing this film is “Certified Fresh” over at Rotten Tomatoes.

The tech specs for the 4K UHD Blu-ray include a 2160p video presentation in the 2.39:1 aspect ratio with HDR10 form of high dynamic range and Dolby Atmos sound. Tech specs for the Blu-ray release include a 1080p HD video presentation in the 2.39:1 aspect with DTS-HD Master Audio 7.1 lossless surround sound. The 4K physical release will come in the form of a “combo pack” meaning that it will come with its Blu-ray counterpart. Each release will include a digital code (copy) of the film.

1981 Warren Beatty film Reds on Blu-ray November

The 1981 film Reds will officially be getting a 40th Anniversary Edition Blu-ray Disc release on November 30th via Paramount Home Entertainment. The film, directed by, co-written by, and starring Warren Beatty, co-starred Diane Keaton, Jack Nicholson, Edward Herrmann, Gene Hackman, Paul Sorvino, and Maureen Stapleton. The movie, in 1982, was nominated for twelve Academy Awards (including “Best Picture”), and it won a total of 3 Oscars (including “Best Director”).

This has received a new 4K restoration, from the original negative, supervised by director Warren Beatty which was also approved by the cinematographer, as detailed below.

” … REDS, newly restored under Beatty’s supervision.  The film was restored and remastered from the original negative in 4K with High Dynamic Range using a vintage print from the Paramount archives as a reference, which was approved by Academy Award®-winning* cinematographer Vittorio Storaro. “

As you’ll notice, there’s some mention of 4K and HDR (high dynamic range) there, which means that you can someday expect a 4K UHD Blu-ray — given they [Paramount] have gone to this much effort in the restoration process. The tech specs for the release have not yet been fully detailed, but you can expect a 1080p HD video presentation and a lossless sound mix. Stay tuned for an update on that. You can now find the Blu-ray available for preorder over at Amazon. The release will come with a digital code (copy) of the film. Heaven Can Wait with Warren Beatty comes to Blu-ray

The 1978 film Heaven Can Wait starring Warren Beatty is officially coming to Blu-ray Disc on November 30th via Paramount Home Entertainment. This will mark the first time this film has been on the Blu-ray format, making it its debut. The film, co-directed & co-written by Warren Beatty, co-starred Julie ChristieJames MasonCharles GrodinDyan CannonBuck HenryVincent Gardenia, and Jack Warden. Heaven Can Wait was nominated for a total of eight Academy Awards and ended up winning the Oscar for “Best Art Direction / Set Decoration.”

The tech specs for the Blu-ray include a 1080p HD video presentation remastered from the original negative under Warren Beatty’s supervision, presumably in the original 1.85:1 aspect ratio. Harold and Maude gets a Paramount Presents Blu-ray

The 1971 comedy Harold and Maude is officially coming to Blu-ray Disc as part of the Paramount Presents line on December 7th, via Paramount Home Entertainment. This will be Spine Number 29 in the Paramount Presents line.

The film, celebrating its 50th anniversary, directed by Hal Ashby, starred Ruth Gordon, Bud Cort, Vivian Pickles, Cyril Cusack, Charles Tyner, Ellen Geer, Shari Summers, and Tom Skerritt. This movie has received a new 4K restoration, from a new 4K scan of the original negative. This is detailed below, in a quote from the studio’s press release.

” Originally released on December 20, 1971, HAROLD AND MAUDE celebrates its 50th anniversary this year and has been beautifully restored and remastered for this Limited-Edition release.  For the restoration, the original negative was scanned in 4K and careful color correction and cleanup were undertaken to pay homage to director of photography John Alonzo’s memorable work and honor the look of the film. In addition, the incredible soundtrack was completely remixed using recently discovered tracks to add clarity and depth.  “

The tech specs for the release have not yet been fully detailed, but you can for sure expect a 1080p HD video presentation (presumably in the original 1.85:1 aspect ratio) with a remixed lossless sound mix (presumably in Mono). The Karate Kid Collection comes to 4K in December

The Karate Kid Collection is officially coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray on December 7th via Sony Pictures Home Entertainment. The set includes the three films “The Karate Kid” (1984), “The Karate Kid Part II” (1986), and “The Karate Kid Part III” (1989). This release will mark the very first time that the two sequels have been available on the 4K UHD Blu-ray format. All three films have been remastered in 4K from the original camera negatives. All of the films were directed by John G. Avildsen and the cast for the films included Ralph Macchio, Noriyuki “Pat” Morita, and Martin Kove.

The tech specs for the 4K releases include a 2160p video presentation in the 1.85:1 aspect ratio with HDR10 and Dolby Vision forms of high dynamic range, as well as Dolby Atmos, a lossless 5.1 surround mix, and the original 2.0 Stereo theatrical sound mix, for each of the three films. Each release will come in the form of a “combo pack” meaning that it will include the Blu-ray Disc counterparts.
