1998 film Wild Things gets limited edition 4K in May

The 1998 film “Wild Things” is officially coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray in a Limited Edition box set on May 24th via Arrow Video.  The film, directed by John McNaughton, starred Kevin Bacon, Matt Dillon, Neve Campbell, Denise Richards, Theresa Russell, and Bill Murray.  The film has received a new 4K restoration of both the theatrical and UNRATED Edition versions, as noted below.  Hence, this release will include both versions in 4K.

“New 4K restorations of both the Original Theatrical Version and the Unrated Edition from the original camera negatives by Sony Pictures Entertainment”

The tech specs for the 4K UHD Blu-ray release include a 2160p video presentation in the 2.40:1 aspect ratio with Dolby Vision and HDR10 forms of high dynamic range along with DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 and uncompressed 2.0 Stereo sound mixes.  It’s worth noting that there will be a Blu-ray “Limited Edition” release also coming from Arrow Video and that it will include the same sound tech specs as mentioned above and be in 1080p HD video in the same aspect ratio.  Also, both the 4K and the Blu-ray releases are 1-disc sets. So, in other words, the 4K is not a “combo pack” and does not include the Blu-ray counterpart.

Spider-Man No Way Home comes to 4K and Blu-ray April

The 2021 Marvel Studios film “Spider-Man: No Way Home” is officially coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray and Blu-ray on April 12th via Sony Pictures Home Entertainment.  The film, directed by Jon Watts, stars Tom Holland, Zendaya, Benedict Cumberbatch, Jacob Batalon, Jon Favreau, Benedict Wong, Marisa Tomei, Jamie Foxx, Willem Dafoe, and Alfred Molina.  It should most certainly be noted, at the time of writing, this film is “Certified Fresh” over at Rotten Tomatoes.

The tech specs for the 4K UHD Blu-ray release include a 2160p video presentation in the 2.39:1 aspect ratio with HDR10 form of high dynamic range and Dolby Atmos sound.  Tech specs for the Blu-ray include a 1080p HD video presentation in 2.39:1 aspect with DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 lossless surround sound.  Both releases will come in the form of a “combo pack” with the 4K UHD Blu-ray getting its Blu-ray counterpart, the Blu-ray getting the DVD counterpart, and each includes a digital code (copy) of the film.

The 1944 film noir “Double Indemnity” is officially coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray and Blu-ray Disc on May 31st via The Criterion Collection.  The film, directed and co-written by Billy Wilder, starred Fred MacMurray, Barbara Stanwyck, and Edward G. Robinson.

This release comes from a new 4K restoration.  The tech specs for the 4K UHD Blu-ray include a 2160p Black & White video presentation in the 1.37:1 aspect ratio with Dolby Vision and HDR10 forms of high dynamic range and an uncompressed LPCM Mono sound mix.  Tech specs for the Blu-ray include a 1080p HD Black & White video presentation in the 1.37:1 aspect ratio and LPCM Mono sound.  The 4K release will come in the form of a “combo pack” with its Blu-ray Disc counterpart included.  You can now find the 4K UHD Blu-ray and the Blu-ray from Criterion available for preorder over at Amazon.

Musical 1776 on 4K for 50th anniversary in May

The musical 1776 will officially be celebrating its 50th anniversary with a 4K UHD Blu-ray release on May 31st via Sony Pictures Home Entertainment.  The 1972 film adaptation of the Tony Award-winning Broadway musical (of the same title), directed by Peter H. Hunt, starred William Daniels, Howard Da Silva, Ken Howard, Donald Madden, Blythe Danner, John Cullum, Roy Poole, David Ford, and Virginia Vestoff.  It’s most certainly worth noting that this will include the 165-minute Director’s Cut and the 167-minute Extended Cut forms of the film.  In addition to that, the original 1972 Theatrical (in HD) and 1992 Laserdisc (in SD) presentations will be included on Blu-ray.  More on that a bit later.
