Mission: Impossible The Final Reckoning on 4K

The 2025 sequel “Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning” is coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray and 4K UHD Blu-ray SteelBook on October 14th via Paramount. Christopher McQuarrie directed and co-wrote the film. It stars Tom Cruise, Hayley Atwell, Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg, and Henry Czerny. It’s certainly worth noting that this movie is rated both “Certified Fresh” based on reviews by critics and “Verified Hot” by audiences at Rotten Tomatoes.

The tech specs for the 4K include a 2160p video presentation in 2.39:1 and 1.90:1 shifting aspect ratios, including Dolby Vision and HDR10 with Dolby Atmos sound, on a BD-100 disc. NOTE: There will not be a standard Blu-ray release of this film on home video. If you want a Blu-ray, you’ll have to buy one of the two 4K 3-disc “combo packs” which include the Blu-ray Disc counterpart. A Blu-ray housing bonus materials will also be included. A digital copy of the film is also included with both of the 4K UHD Blu-ray releases.

Disney’s Lilo & Stitch is coming to 4K in May

The 2002 film “Lilo & Stitch” comes to 4K UHD Blu-ray, for the first time, on May 6th via Disney. Dean DeBlois & Chris Sanders directed the movie. It featured the voices of Daveigh Chase, Chris Sanders, Tia Carrere, Kevin McDonald, Zoe Caldwell, and Ving Rhames. It’s certainly worth noting that this film is “Certified Fresh” on Rotten Tomatoes, based on critics’ reviews.

The tech specs for the 4K release include a 2160p video presentation in a 1.66:1 aspect ratio with Dolby Vision or HDR10. It will feature Dolby Atmos sound, with a Dolby TrueHD 7.1 core. The Wild Robot on 4K and Blu-ray in December

The 2024 DreamWorks Animation film “The Wild Robot” is officially coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray and Blu-ray Disc on December 3rd via Universal Studios Home Entertainment. The film is based on the book (of the same title) written by Peter Brown. Chris Sanders directed and wrote the movie adaptation. The voice cast features the talent of Lupita Nyong’o, Pedro Pascal, Kit Connor, Bill Nighy, Stephanie Hsu, Matt Berry, Ving Rhames, Mark Hamill, and Catherine O’Hara. It’s certainly worth noting that this film is “Certified Fresh” (by critics) and “Verified Hot” (by audiences) on Rotten Tomatoes.

2004 Dawn of the Dead remake on 4K in January

The 2004 remake of “Dawn of the Dead” is officially coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray on January 31st, 2023 via Scream Factory (Shout! Factory).   The film, directed by Zack Snyder, with a screenplay adaptation written by James Gunn based on the 1968 George A. Romero film, starred Sarah Polley, Ving Rhames, Jake Weber, Mekhi Phifer, Mekhi Phifer, Michael Kelly, Kevin Zegers, Michael Barry, Lindy Booth, and Matt Frewer.

The film will be presented in the UNRATED cut on the 4K and both versions on the two additional Blu-rays included in this “combo pack” release.  The UNRATED Cut has received a “NEW 2022 4K Scan Of The Original Camera Negative” according to Shout! Factory.  Tech specs for the release have not yet been detailed but you can for sure expect a 2160p 4K video presentation in the 2.35:1 aspect ratio with at least HDR10 form of high dynamic range and lossless audio in presumably 5.1 surround.  You can now find the 4K UHD Blu-ray of the film available for preorder over at retailer Best Buy as well as directly via Shout! 1998 film Out of Sight is headed to 4K in June

The 1998 film Out of Sight is officially coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray and Blu-ray (in a “Special Edition”) on June 28th via KL Studio Classics.  The film, directed by Steven Soderbergh, starred George Clooney, Jennifer Lopez, Ving Rhames, Don Cheadle, Luis Guzmán, Albert Brooks, Steve Zahn, Elmore Leonard, and Dennis Farina.

This new presentation comes from a “4K scan of the original camera negative.”  The tech specs for the 4K release include a 2160p video presentation in the 1.85:1 aspect ratio with HDR10 and Dolby Vision forms of high dynamic range and both lossless 5.1 surround and 2.0 Stereo sound mixes on a BD-100 disc.  The 4K release will come in the form of a 2-disc “combo pack” including its Blu-ray Disc counterpart.  The tech specs for the Blu-ray Special Edition include a 1080p HD video presentation in the 1.85:1 aspect ratio and both 5.1 and 2.0 Stereo lossless sound mixes on a BD-50 disc.

The 2001 CG animated film Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within is officially coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray on November 16th, via Sony Pictures Home Entertainment. The film, celebrating its 20th anniversary, co-directed by Hironobu Sakaguchi and Motonori Sakakibara, featured the English voice talents of Ming-Na Wen, Alec Baldwin, Ving Rhames, Steve Buscemi, Keith David, James Woods, and Donald Sutherland.

Stop! Or My Mom Will Shoot comes to Blu-ray in March

The 1992 film “Stop! Or My Mom Will Shoot” starring Sylvester Stallone and Estelle Getty is making its debut to Blu-ray on March 9th, 2021, via Mill Creek Entertainment. This will be the first time this movie has been available in North America on the Blu-ray format. The film, directed by Roger Spottiswoode, co-starred JoBeth Williams, Roger Rees, Martin Ferrero, and Ving Rhames. The tech specs have not yet been detailed and no word yet on if this release will contain any bonus materials.
