Dirty Work gets a standard 4K release in July

The 1998 film Dirty Work is getting a standard 4K UHD Blu-ray release on July 29th via Vinegar Syndrome. The movie was directed by Bob Saget and was co-written by Norm MacDonald. It starred Norm MacDonald, Artie Lange, Jack Warden, Don Rickles, Traylor Howard, and Christopher McDonald. It also featured appearances by Chevy Chase and Chris Farley. NOTE: This was originally released exclusively online from the distributor, but will now be available elsewhere.

The movie has been newly scanned & restored in 4K from its 35mm OCN [Original Camera Negative]. The release will come in a 3-disc set. The 4K tech specs include a 2160p video presentation in the 1.85:1 aspect ratio with Dolby Vision and HDR10 forms of high dynamic range with DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 surround sound, on a BD-100 disc. The “combo pack” release will include its Blu-ray Disc counterpart [in 1080p HD]. Another Blu-ray will be included for bonus materials. A total of three versions of the film are included with this release. The 82-minute theatrical cut and 83-minute “Dirtier Cut” are both in 4K and HD on the Blu-ray. There’s also a 2-hour “Assembly Cut” of the movie, sourced from video. Details about that are further below.

1978 Jack Nicholson film Goin’ South on 4K in August

The 1978 western/comedy “Goin’ South” is officially coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray on August 27th via Vinegar Syndrome‘s sub-label Cinématographe. The film, directed by & starring Jack Nicholson, co-starred Mary Steenburgen, Christopher Lloyd, John Belushi, Veronica Cartwright, Richard Bradford, Danny DeVito, Ed Begley Jr., and Lin Shaye.

This comes from a new 4K restoration of its original camera negative. The tech specs for the 4K release include a 2160p video presentation in the 1.85:1 aspect ratio with HDR10 form of high dynamic range and DTS-HD Master Audio 1.0 Mono lossless sound. The release is a 2-disc “combo pack” with a (Region A) Blu-ray Disc included. This retailer version of the 4K UHD Blu-ray is available for preorder at Amazon. It’s certainly worth noting that a limited version of the 4K UHD Blu-ray (with slipcover) is already available to order directly via Vinegar Syndrome. 1980 film Little Darlings comes to 4K in February

The 1980 film “Little Darlings” is coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray on February 27th via Cinématographe, a new sub-label from Vinegar Syndrome.  The film, directed by Ron Maxwell, starred Tatum O’Neal, Kristy McNichol, Armand Assante, Matt Dillon, and Cynthia Nixon.  The release will come as a  MediaBook, limited to 8,000 units total.  The movie has received a “NEW 4K Restoration from the Original Camera Negative.”  The tech specs for the release include a 2160p video presentation in the 2.35:1 aspect ratio with HDR10 form of high dynamic range and DTS-HD Master Audio 2.0 lossless stereo sound.  This will also be a “combo pack” with its Blu-ray Disc counterpart included.  You can now find the 4K UHD Blu-ray available for preorder over at Amazon as well as directly via Vinegar Syndrome.

1982 film The Beastmaster gets a standard 4K release

The cult-classic 1982 film The Beastmaster will be getting a standard 4K UHD Blu-ray release on July 27th via Vinegar Syndrome. The film has previously been released by Vinegar Syndrome as an exclusive on the 4K format directly on their website, but now will be available via other retailers in a standard form of packaging. The film, directed and co-written by Don Coscarelli and based on the novel of the same title, starred Marc Singer, Tanya Roberts, Rip Torn, John Amos, Rod Loomis, Ben Hammer, and Billy Jayne.

The film has received a new 4K scan and restoration from the original 35mm interpositive negative. Tech specs for the 4K include a 2160p video presentation in the 1.85:1 aspect ratio with HDR10 form of high dynamic range and both the original Stereo 2.0 and 5.1 surround lossless sound mixes. The release will come in the form of a “combo pack” meaning that it will come with its Blu-ray Disc counterpart in 1080p HD with the same audio mixes. You can now find the 4K UHD Blu-ray / Blu-ray combo pack standard release available for preorder over at Amazon.

This version is not to be confused with Vinegar Syndrome’s previous exclusive 4K releases of the film and does not any of the physical extras that those did. I want to state that upfront. However, it will contain the following extras.

The 2018 science fiction film Prospect is coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray on June 29th via distributors Gunpowder & Sky and Vinegar Syndrome. The film, which was written & directed by Christopher Caldwell and Zeek Earl, starred Pedro Pascal, Sophie Thatcher, and Jay Duplass. It’s worth noting, at the time of writing, this film is “Certified Fresh” over on Rotten Tomatoes and available to stream on Netflix. Tech specs for the 4K release include a 2160p presentation in the 1.90:1 aspect ratio with HDR10 form of high dynamic range with DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 lossless surround sound.
