Dark City is getting a standard 4K in November

The 1998 movie “Dark City” will get standard edition 4K UHD Blu-ray and Blu-ray releases on November 18th via Arrow Video. Alex Proyas directed and co-wrote the film. The movie starred Rufus Sewell, William Hurt, Kiefer Sutherland, Jennifer Connelly, and Richard O’Brien. It’s certainly worth noting that this film is “Certified Fresh” on Rotten Tomatoes. NOTE: This release only includes the Director’s Cut and not the theatrical cut.

The movie has received a 4K restoration from the original 35mm camera negative. Director of photography Dariusz Wolski approved this. The tech specs for the 4K include a 2160p video presentation in a 2.39:1 aspect ratio with HDR10. It will consist of Dolby Atmos, DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 surround, and 2.0 stereo lossless sound. Tech specs for the Blu-ray include a 1080p HD video presentation in a 2.39:1 aspect ratio. It will also include Dolby Atmos, DTS-HD MA 5.1, and 2.0 sound.

EDITORIAL NOTE: The 2025 4K UHD Blu-ray and Blu-ray Limited Editions, previously released, have now gone out of print (OOP). So, these standard 4K and Blu-ray versions will be a welcome release for those who didn’t grab the limited edition(s).

The 1998 movie Dark City will get 4K UHD Blu-ray Limited Edition and Blu-ray Limited Edition sets on June 24th. The releases are via Arrow Video. Alex Proyas directed and co-wrote the film. The 2001 film A Knight’s Tale arrives on 4K UHD Blu-ray SteelBook on May 20th via Sony Pictures Home EntertainmentBrian Helgeland wrote and directed the movie, which starred Heath Ledger, Mark Addy, Rufus Sewell, Paul Bettany, and Alan Tudyk.

This 4K release will include the Theatrical Version – 132 min (PG-13) and Extended Version – 144 min (Unrated). Both versions have received a restoration from the original camera negative. The picture & audio were approved by the director (Brian Helgeland). The tech specs for the 4K include a 2160p video presentation in the 2.39:1 aspect ratio with Dolby Vision (or HDR10). Tech specs for the Blu-ray include a 1080p HD video presentation in the 2.39:1 aspect ratio. The audio presentation will be in Dolby Atmos and DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 surround on the 4K and Blu-ray discs. This release will come as a “combo pack” with its Blu-ray Disc (of the theatrical version) included. Also, a digital copy, compatible with Movies Anywhere, is included.

M. Night Shyamalan’s Old on 4K and Blu-ray October

The 2021 film “Old” is officially coming to both 4K UHD Blu-ray and Blu-ray Disc on October 19th via Universal Studios Home Entertainment. The film, written & directed by M. Night Shyamalan, stars Gael García Bernal, Vicky Krieps, Rufus Sewell, Alex Wolff, Thomasin McKenzie, Abbey Lee, Nikki Amuka-Bird, Ken Leung, Eliza Scanlen, Aaron Pierre, Embeth Davidtz, and Emun Elliott.

The tech specs for the 4K release include a 2160p video presentation in the 2.39:1 aspect ratio with HDR10 form of high dynamic range and Dolby Atmos sound, on a BD-100 disc. The tech specs for the Blu-ray include a 1080p HD video presentation in the 2.39:1 aspect ratio and Dolby Atmos sound, on a BD-50 disc. Both releases will come in the form of a “combo pack” meaning that the 4K will include its Blu-ray counterpart, the Blu-ray version will include its DVD counterpart, and each will get a digital code (copy) of the film — compatible with Movies Anywhere. UPDATE: The 2020 film “The Father” is officially coming to Blu-ray Disc on May 18th via Sony Pictures Home Entertainment. The film won two Academy Awards (including ‘Best Adapted Screenplay’ and ‘Best Actor’) out of the 6 “Oscars” total that it was nominated for last night. The Father was directed by Florian Zeller and stars Anthony HopkinsOlivia ColmanMark Gatiss, Olivia Williams, Imogen Poots, and Rufus Sewell. The film, at the time of writing, is “Certified Fresh” over at Rotten Tomatoes.
