Robert Redford film Ordinary People on Blu-ray March

The 1980 Academy Award-winning film Ordinary People will be coming to Blu-ray Disc as part of the Paramount Presents line on March 29th, via Paramount Home Entertainment. This release will be spine number 30 in the Paramount Presentes line of Blu-ray titles. The film, directed by Robert Redford, starred Donald Sutherland, Mary Tyler Moore, Timothy Hutton, Judd Hirsch, and M. Emmet Walsh. This movie won 4 “Oscars” (Academy Awards), including “Best Picture“, and was nominated for 6 Oscars total.

The movie has been “remastered from a new 4K film transfer overseen by Redford” according to a statement from the studio.  The tech specs for the release have not yet been detailed but stay tuned for a later update.  UPDATED: You can now find the Paramount Presents Blu-ray available for preorder over at Amazon.

The release will come with the typical fold-out original poster art on the slipcover as well as tasteful photos from the film also included throughout the package design (pictured below).

The bonus materials feature “new interviews with Hutton and Judith Guest, author of the novel upon which the movie was based.” Those extras set to be included with the release are listed below.

1973 film The Sting with Newman and Redford on 4K in May

The 1973 film “The Sting” will be officially coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray on May 18th via Universal Studios Home Entertainment. The film, directed by George Roy Hill, starred Paul NewmanRobert RedfordRobert Shaw, Charles Durning, Ray Walston, Eileen Brennan, and Harold Gould. The tech specs for the 4K release include a 2160p presentation in the 1.85:1 aspect ratio with HDR10 form of High Dynamic Range and DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 surround sound on a BD-100 disc. The release will come in the form of a “combo pack” meaning that it’ll include its Blu-ray Disc counterpart and a digital code (copy) of the film. You can now find the standard 4K UHD Blu-ray release available for preorder over at Amazon.

It’s most certainly worth noting that, it appears, an exclusive 4K UHD Blu-ray SteelBook release of the film will be available over at retailer Best Buy (pictured below) on the same date. Speaking of which, you can now find that 4K SteelBook of the film listed as coming soon over at Best Buy but not yet as a functional preorder. I would expect that should be changing very soon, so stay tuned to its listing, if you’re looking to preorder the SteelBook.

The bonus materials set to be included with both versions of this film on 4K UHD Blu-ray will be using the archival extras from the previous Blu-ray release, on both the 4K and Blu-ray Discs. Those extras include.

2001 film The Last Castle makes its Blu-ray Debut in May

The 2001 film “The Last Castle” will finally be making its Blu-ray Disc debut on May 25th via Paramount Home Entertainment. The tech specs for the release and bonus materials have yet to be detailed but stay tuned for an update on that. This news comes confirmed via Justin Beahm who worked on the bonus materials for this release with his Reverend Entertainment and discussed the privilege it was to work on the release today on his site. The film, directed by Rod Lurie, starred Robert RedfordJames GandolfiniMark Ruffalo, and Delroy Lindo. You can now find the Blu-ray listed as available to preorder over at Amazon.

2000 film The Legend of Bagger Vance on Blu-ray in May

The 2000 film “The Legend of Bagger Vance” will be finally making its debut to the Blu-ray Disc format on May 25th, via Paramount Home Entertainment, according to retailers. The film, directed by Robert Redford, starred Will Smith, Matt Damon, Charlize Theron, and Jack Lemmon as the narrator. Tech specs for the Blu-ray include a 1080p HD presentation in the original 1.85:1 aspect ratio and Dolby Digital 5.1 surround sound. Yes, no lossless surround sound mix will be found on this release according to the back package art. You can now find the Blu-ray listed for preorder over at Amazon. The bonus materials set to be included with the release are listed below.

2019 drama The Mustang comes to Blu-ray in June

The 2019 critically-acclaimed drama The Mustang is coming to Blu-ray Disc on June 11th, via Universal. The film, executive produced by Robert Redford and directed by Laure de Clermont-Tonnerre, includes a cast of Matthias SchoenaertsJason MitchellBruce Dern, Gideon Adlon, and Connie Britton. The film (at time of writing) carries a “Certified Fresh” rating over at Rotten Tomatoes – based on critic reviews. Tech specs for the Blu-ray release include 1080p HD video in the 1.66:1 aspect ratio (side matted) with DTS-HD 5.1 Master Audio sound on a BD-50. The release will come with a digital copy of the film. You can find the Blu-ray is available for pre-order over at Amazon and Best Buy. No bonus materials are slated to be included on this release.

Both “Captain America” sequels on 4K UHD Blu-ray late April

 

The two Marvel Studios sequels Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Captain America: Civil War are both coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray on April 23rd, via Disney – according to an early alert to retailers. The titles had been said to be coming but we now finally get them both listed with release date and pre-order listings for each over at Best Buy.

UPDATE: The two titles on 4K are both now listed for pre-order over at Amazon – HERE and HERE. Those listings even include glimpses at the back of the packaging where we get the tech specs. “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” will be presented in the 2.40:1 aspect (as originally on Blu-ray), while “Captain America: Civil War” will be presented in the 2.39:1 aspect ratio (unlike the original Blu-ray). Both films will receive HDR10 form of High Dynamic Range and Dolby Atmos sound. The bonus materials set to be included for each film can be found on the original Blu-ray releases. No new extras will be included on the 4K discs.

Each release will come in the form of a “combo pack” with the Blu-ray Disc included along with a digital copy of the film.

There will also be Steelbook releases for both of the films on 4K which will be Best Buy exclusives. You can’t pre-order those yet but they have placeholder pages HERE and HERE. 1984 film “The Natural” starring Robert Redford comes to 4K in June

The 1984 Barry Levinson directed film The Natural starring Robert Redford is coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray in a 35th Anniversary release on June 4th, via Sony. The film, nominated for 4 Oscars, featured a supporting cast including Robert DuvallGlenn Close, Kim Basinger, Wilford Brimley, Barbara Hershey, Robert Prosky, Richard FarnsworthJoe Don Baker, and Michael Madsen. This 35th Anniversary 4K release will include both the Theatrical (138 minutes) and Director’s Cut (144 minutes) of the film – both on the 4K disc.

Tech specs for the 4K release have not yet been fully detailed it will come with HDR (presumably in the HDR10 variety) and Dolby Atmos sound, as well as the original stereo and 5.1 tracks (for the theatrical cut). The release will come in form of a “combo pack” with a Blu-ray Disc and a digital copy of the film included.

“The Old Man & The Gun” starring Robert Redford comes to Blu-ray in January

The 2018 David Lowery directed film The Old Man & The Gun starring Robert Redford is officially coming to Blu-ray Disc on January 15th, 2019 via Fox. The film features a supporting cast of Casey Affleck, Sissy Spacek, Danny Glover, and Tom Waits. Tech specs include 1080p video in the 2.39:1 aspect ratio and DTS-HD 5.1 Master Audio sound. The release will come in the form of a “combo pack” with a DVD and a Digital Copy of the film included. This title on Blu-ray is now available to pre-order over at Amazon.
