Throw Momma From the Train is coming to 4K in April

Danny DeVito directed and starred in the movie. It co-starred Billy Crystal, Rob Reiner, Kim Greist, and Anne Ramsey. On a related note, Anne Ramsey received an Academy Award nomination for “Best Actress in a Supporting Role” in the film, back in 1988.

This comes from a new master from a 4K scan of the 35mm original camera negative. The tech specs for the 4K UHD Blu-ray include a 2160p video presentation in a 1.85:1 aspect ratio with Dolby Vision (HDR10-compatible) high dynamic range, along with lossless DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 and 2.0 audio on a BD-100 disc. Tech specs for the special edition Blu-ray include a 1080p HD video presentation in a 1.85:1 aspect ratio with DTS-HD MA 5.1 and 2.0 sound, on a BD-50 disc.

UPDATED: The 4K UHD Blu-ray and Special Edition Blu-ray are now available for preorder at Amazon. Also, you can preorder the 4K UHD Blu-ray directly from Kino Lorber’s website.

The 1984 film This Is Spinal Tap on 4K in September

The 1984 Mockumentary “This Is Spinal Tap” comes to 4K UHD Blu-ray and Blu-ray on September 16th via The Criterion Collection. Rob Reiner directed the film. It starred Michael McKean, Christopher Guest, and Harry Shearer. It also co-starred Rob Reiner, Bruno Kirby, Tony Hendra, Ed Begley Jr., and Fran Drescher.

The movie has received a new 4K digital restoration, approved by director Rob Reiner. The tech specs for the 4K include a 2160p video presentation in a 1.85:1 aspect ratio with Dolby Vision or HDR10 forms of high dynamic range. It will feature a lossless DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 surround sound mix and uncompressed Linear PCM 2.0 stereo. The tech specs for the Blu-ray Special Edition include a 1080p HD video presentation in a 1.85:1 aspect ratio with DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 surround and PCM 2.0 stereo sound. The 4K UHD release will come as a 2-disc “combo pack” with its Blu-ray Disc counterpart included.

The 4K UHD Blu-ray and Blu-ray Special Edition are not yet available for preorder at Amazon. Stay tuned for an update. You can, however, preorder directly via the Criterion website. The bonus materials set to be included with the releases are listed below.

The Wolf of Wall Street coming to 4K in December

The 2013 film The Wolf of Wall Street is officially coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray on December 14th via Paramount Home Entertainment. The film, directed by Martin Scorsese and based on a true story, starred Leonardo DiCaprio, Jonah Hill, Margot Robbie, Matthew McConaughey, Kyle Chandler, Rob Reiner, Jon Bernthal, and Jon Favreau.

The movie has received a new transfer that was supervised by the director, Martin Scorsese. The tech specs for the release have not yet all been detailed but stay tuned for an update. The 2160p video presentation should at least include HDR10 form of high dynamic range. The release will come with a digital code (copy) of the film. You can now find the standard 4K UHD Blu-ray available for preorder over at Amazon. It’s also worth noting that a limited edition 4K UHD Blu-ray SteelBook (pictured below) will be available on the same date.

1990 film adaptation of Misery is coming to 4K in October

The 1990 film adaptation of Stephen King‘s Misery is officially coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray on October 12th via KL Studio Classics. The film, directed by Rob Reiner, starred James Caan, Kathy Bates, Richard FarnsworthFrances Sternhagen, and Lauren Bacall. KL Studio Classics just announced this on Facebook in a post less than an hour ago.

The tech specs include a 2160p 4K video presentation in the 1.85:1 aspect ratio with HDR10 and Dolby Vision forms of high dynamic range as well as lossless 5.1 surround and 2.0 Stereo sound mixes, set to be on a BD-100 disc. The release will come in the form of a “combo pack” meaning that it will also include its Blu-ray Disc counterpart (in 1080p HD) as well as the bonus materials. It will also come in with a limited-edition slipcover (pictured above).

The 1986 Rob Reiner directed film Stand By Me is officially coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray on August 27th via Sony. The film, based on a Stephen King novella (“The Body”), starred Wil WheatonRiver PhoenixCorey Feldman, Jerry O’Connell, Kiefer Sutherland, and featured Richard Dreyfuss as the narrator (“The Writer”). Tech specs for the release include newly 4K scanned video from the original camera negative with HDR10 form of High Dynamic Range and Dolby Atmos sound, along with lossless 5.1 and original theatrical Mono. The release will come in the form of a “combo pack” with a both a Blu-ray included as well as a digital copy of the film.

4K restoration of “When Harry Met Sally” comes to Blu-ray Disc in January

4K restoration of the 1989 Rob Reiner directed romantic comedy When Harry Met Sally…” starring Billy Crystal and Meg Ryan is getting a Blu-ray Disc release on January 8th, 2019 as the “30th Anniversary Edition” via Shout Select (Shout! Factory). The film, which was written by Nora Ephron, co-starred Carrie Fisher, Bruno Kirby, Steven FordLisa Jane Persky, and Michelle Nicastro.

As of today I can tell you the full details about this upcoming release. First off, as mentioned, it has received a new 4K scan and restoration. Below you’ll find a list of info regarding the release and bonus materials set to be included.
