1991 film Drop Dead Fred comes to Blu-ray in September

The 1991 film Drop Dead Fred is officially coming to Blu-ray Disc on September 28th via Severin Films, distributed by MVD Entertainment Group. The film, directed by Ate de Jong, starred Phoebe Cates, Rik Mayall, Marsha Mason, Tim Matheson, and Carrie Fisher. The tech specs for the release include a 1080p HD video presentation in the 1.85:1 aspect ratio from a new 2K scan (as quoted below) and Stereo sound, likely in a lossless format.

Fast Times at Ridgemont High gets Criterion Blu-ray in May

The 1982 film “Fast Times at Ridgemont High” will be getting a new Blu-ray Disc on May 11th via The Criterion Collection. The film, directed by Amy Heckerling and written by Cameron Crowe (based on his book), starred Sean PennJennifer Jason LeighJudge ReinholdForest Whitaker, Anthony Edwards, Eric Stoltz, and Phoebe Cates. The movie has received a new 4K restoration that was supervised by the director Amy Heckerling. Tech specs for the upcoming Criterion Blu-ray include a 1080p HD presentation in the original 1.85:1 aspect ratio and DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 surround sound. The Criterion Collection Blu-ray of the film is now available for preorder over at Amazon. The full bonus materials set to be included with this release are detailed below.

Joe Dante film Gremlins comes to 4K in October

The 1984 Joe Dante directed film Gremlins is coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray on October 1st, via Warner, according to an early alert to retailers. The film, executive produced by Steven Spielberg and written by Chris Columbus, starred Zach GalliganPhoebe CatesHoyt Axton, Corey Feldman, and Dick Miller. Tech specs and bonus materials for the release have not yet been detailed but stay tuned for an update. It is known that the release will come in the form of a “combo pack” with a Blu-ray and a digital copy of the film included. You can find the 4K UHD Blu-ray now available for pre-order (with release date listed) over at Best Buy. Speaking of Best Buy, the retailer will be getting an exclusive Steelbook for the 4K release (pictured below) which is also already available for pre-order. Stay tuned for further info regarding this upcoming release. I must say, that Steelbook cover art is pretty simplistic.

UPDATE: Well, that didn’t take too long. The standard 4K UHD Blu-ray release is now listed as available for pre-order over at Amazon. The 1988 James Bridges directed film Bright City, Big Lights starring Michael J. Fox is coming to Blu-ray Disc on November 20th via MVD Entertainment, as part of their MVD Rewind Collection label. The film, based on the novel written by Jay McInerney, co-starred Kiefer SutherlandPhoebe Cates, and Swoosie Kurtz. Tech specs for the release include 1080p video in the original 1.85:1 aspect ratio and Uncompressed Linear PCM 2.0 Stereo sound. This is now available for PRE-ORDER over at Amazon. Bonus materials set to be included on the release are listed below.
