The 1981 film Excalibur comes to 4K in February

The 1981 film “Excalibur” is coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray and Blu-ray in Limited Edition sets via Arrow Video on February 24th in the United States. It will also be released on February 23rd in the United Kingdom. John Boorman directed the movie, which starred Nigel Terry, Helen Mirren, Nicholas Clay, Cherie Lunghi, Paul Geoffrey, and Robert Addie. It co-starred Nicol Williamson, Keith Buckley, Gabriel Byrne, Liam Neeson, and Patrick Stewart. It’s certainly worth noting that this film featured cutting-edge computer graphics for its time. Also, it received an Academy Award [“Oscar”] nomination for “Best Cinematography.”
The movie features a new 4K restoration from the original 35mm negative. The tech specs for the 4K UHD Blu-ray include a 2160p video presentation in a 1.66:1 aspect ratio, in SDR (standard dynamic range), with lossless DTS-HD Master Audio Mono and 5.1 surround sound configurations. The Blu-ray version’s tech specs include a 1080p HD video presentation in a 1.66:1 aspect ratio with DTS-HD MA Mono and 5.1 surround sound. The release will be a 3-disc set for each format. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness 4K and Blu-ray

The 2022 film “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” is officially coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray and Blu-ray Disc on July 26th, via Marvel Studios (Disney). The film, directed by Sam Raimi, stars Benedict Cumberbatch, Elizabeth Olsen, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Benedict Wong, Xochitl Gomez, and Rachel McAdams.
Tech specs for the 4K UHD Blu-ray include a 2160p video presentation in the 2.39:1 aspect ratio with HDR10 form of high dynamic range and Dolby Atmos sound. The tech specs for the Blu-ray include a 1080p HD video presentation in a 2.39:1 aspect ratio with DTS-HD Master Audio 7.1 lossless surround sound. The 4K UHD Blu-ray release will include its Blu-ray counterpart and both will come with a digital code (copy) of the film.
UPDATE: You can now find the 4K UHD Blu-ray and Blu-ray available for preorder over at Amazon. It’s certainly worth noting that there will also be an exclusive 4K UHD Blu-ray SteelBook (pictured below) available over at retailer Best Buy, which is now up for preorder.
UPDATES: It turns out that retailer Target will also be getting an exclusive 4K UHD Blu-ray Art Edition of the film (pictured below) which is now available for preorder.
And, as if that weren’t enough choices, there’s also going to be a retailer exclusive over at Walmart for a 4K UHD Blu-ray with Limited-Edition Enamel Pin (pictured below). That’s available for preorder as well.

1985 Tobe Hooper film Lifeforce comes to 4K in May

The 1985 film “Lifeforce“ will be getting a 4K UHD Blu-ray “Collector’s Edition” release on May 24th via Scream Factory. The film, directed by Tobe Hooper, starred Steve Railsback, Peter Firth, Frank Finlay, Mathilda May, Michael Gothard, Nicholas Ball, and Patrick Stewart.
UPDATED: The exact tech specs have yet to be detailed but you can expect a 2160p video presentation in the 2.35:1 aspect ratio taken from a new “2021 4K scan of the original negative” and lossless audio. One could expect, although it has not been confirmed that this should include HDR10 form of high dynamic range on the 4K. It is known (via the artwork, pictured above) that this release will come in the form of a “combo pack” with the 4K getting its Blu-ray Disc counterpart included. In fact, this will include the theatrical cut of the film on 4K and Blu-ray as well as the “Director’s Cut” on a 3rd Blu-ray (in 1080p HD). The 2001 Nickelodeon animated film “Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius“ is coming to Blu-ray Disc on March 8th, 2022 via Paramount Home Entertainment according to retailers. This will mark the very first time that the film has been available in Blu-ray format. The Academy Award-nominated animated film directed by John A. Davis, which spawned a 2002 Nickelodeon TV series, featured the voice talents of Debi Derryberry, Mark DeCarlo, Megan Cavanagh, Candi Milo, Andrea Martin, Carolyn Lawrence, Martin Short, and Patrick Stewart.

L.A. Story with Steve Martin on Blu-ray in November

The 1991 comedy “L.A. Story“ starring Steve Martin is coming to Blu-ray Disc on November 9th via Lionsgate. This will mark the first time the film has been available on the Blu-ray format in North America. The film, now celebrating its 30th anniversary, was directed by Mick Jackson and written by Steve Martin, and it co-starred Victoria Tennant, Richard E. Grant, Marilu Henner, Sarah Jessica Parker, Kevin Pollak, and Patrick Stewart.
The tech specs for the release have not yet been detailed, but stay tuned for a possible update. The release will come with a digital code (copy) of the film. 1984 David Lynch version of Dune on 4K in August

The 1984 film adaptation of “Dune” directed by David Lynch is officially coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray in the form of both a Limited Edition 2-Disc set and a 3-Disc SteelBook set on August 31st via Arrow Video.
The film, based on a novel by Frank Herbert, starred Kyle MacLachlan, Virginia Madsen, Francesca Annis, Brad Dourif, Everett McGill, Freddie Jones, Linda Hunt, José Ferrer, Patrick Stewart, Sean Young, Max von Sydow, Alicia Witt, Richard Jordan, and Sting.
The 4K UHD Blu-ray release comes from a new 4K restoration (from the original camera negative). The tech specs for the releases include a 2160p video presentation in the 2.35:1 aspect ratio in both HDR10 and Dolby Vision forms of High Dynamic Range with the original uncompressed (PCM) 2.0 Stereo and DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 surround sound. You can now find both the 4K UHD Blu-ray Limited Edition and the 4K UHD Blu-ray SteelBook (pictured below) available for preorder over at Amazon.
The Limited Edition 4K UHD Blu-ray SteelBook 3-Disc set (pictured above) will include a double-sided foldout poster, with two choices of original theatrical artwork. Meanwhile, the 4K UHD Blu-ray Limited Edition 2-Disc set (pictured below) will include the following physical extras:
- A 60-page perfect-bound book featuring new writing on the film by Andrew Nette, Christian McCrea and Charlie Brigden

The 4K UHD Blu-ray SteelBook will come as a “dual format” 3-Disc set with both the 4K and Blu-ray Disc (of the film) as well as the Blu-ray bonus disc. Star Trek: Picard Season One on Blu-ray October

The TV series “Star Trek: Picard – Season One“ will be making its debut to Blu-ray Disc in SteelBook packaging on October 6th, via CBS and Paramount, according to retailers. The show, which premiered this year exclusively on the CBS All Access paid streaming platform, continues on the story with [the former captain] “Jean-Luc Picard” from the previous “Star Trek: The Next Generation” TV series. The cast for the first season of Star Trek: Picard includes Patrick Stewart, Alison Pill, Isa Briones, Michelle Hurd, Santiago Cabrera, Harry Treadaway, Evan Evagora, Peyton List, and maybe a few other familiar faces.
Tech specs and bonus materials for the release have not yet been detailed, but I’ll reach out to both CBS and Paramount individually later today — if a press release isn’t issued beforehand.
