Scorsese film Bringing Out the Dead on 4K in September

The 1999 dramatic thriller Bringing Out the Dead is officially coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray and Blu-ray Disc (for the very first time) in a 2-disc set on September 17th via Paramount Presents (Paramount Home Entertainment). The film, directed by Martin Scorsese, starred Nicolas Cage, Patricia Arquette, John Goodman, Ving Rhames, Tom Sizemore, and Marc Anthony. The film has been newly remastered from the original camera negative, this exceptional new release was reviewed by Scorsese, cinematographer Robert Richardson, and editor Thelma Schoonmaker.” It’s certainly worth noting that the film is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year. The tech specs for the 4K include a 2160p video presentation in the 2.39:1 aspect ratio with Dolby Vision and HDR10 forms of high dynamic range and Dolby Atmos sound. Tech specs for the Blu-ray include a 1080p HD video presentation in the 2.39:1 aspect ratio and Dolby TrueHD 5.1 lossless sound. The release will come as a “combo pack” with the Blu-ray Disc counterpart and include a digital copy. Mini-Series Lawman: Bass Reeves on Blu-ray in April

The Paramount+ original Mini-Series “Lawman: Bass Reeves” is coming to Blu-ray Disc on April 30th via Paramount Home Entertainment. The show, created for television by Chad Feehan, stars David Oyelowo, Lauren E. Banks, Demi Singleton, Forrest Goodluck, Dennis Quaid, Barry Pepper, Grantham Coleman, and Donald Sutherland.

The tech specs for the release have yet to be detailed but should include a 1080p HD video presentation and a lossless sound mix (likely in a 5.1 surround configuration), spanning across a 3-disc set. The Blu-ray is now available for preorder over at Amazon and Walmart. The bonus materials set to be included with the release are listed below.

2004 version of Mean Girls is coming to 4K in April

According to retailers, the 2004 original version of the film “Mean Girls” is coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray in a limited edition release on April 30th via Paramount Home Entertainment. The film, celebrating its 20th anniversary, was directed by Mark Waters, and starred Lindsay Lohan, Rachel McAdams, Tina Fey, Tim Meadows, Amy Poehler, Ana Gasteyer, Lacey Chabert, Lizzy Caplan, Daniel Franzese, Jonathan Bennett, and Amanda Seyfried.

The release’s tech specs and bonus materials have yet to be announced but stay tuned for an update. The release will include a digital code (copy) of the film. The 4K UHD Blu-ray is available for preorder now over at Amazon. This will be a limited edition release with special packaging, shown below.

The 1976 version of King Kong comes to 4K in April

The 1979 version of “King Kong” will be coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray in a limited edition SteelBook on April 9th via Paramount Home Entertainment.  The film, directed by John Guillermin, starred Jeff Bridges, Charles Grodin, Jessica Lange, John Randolph, Rene Auberjonois, Julius Harris, Jack O’Halloran, and Ed Lauter.  This release will include both the theatrical and extended TV cuts of the film.  The tech specs for the release have not been detailed but you can for sure expect a 2160p video presentation with at least HDR10 form of high dynamic range and lossless audio.  Bonus materials for the release also have yet to be announced.  Stay tuned for an update on tech specs and extras for this release.

1996 film Primal Fear on 4K UHD Blu-ray in March

The 1996 film “Primal Fear” will be coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray on March 26th as part of the Paramount Presents series, as spine number 43, through Paramount Home Entertainment.  The film, directed by Gregory Hoblit, starred Richard Gere, Laura Linney, Edward Norton, John Mahoney, Alfre Woodard, Frances McDormand, and Terry O’Quinn.

The tech specs for the release have yet to be detailed, but you can very likely expect a 2160p video presentation with HDR10 form of high dynamic range and lossless surround sound.  The release will come as a “combo pack” with its Blu-ray Disc counterpart included and a digital code (copy) of the film.  Bonus materials have yet to be announced, but you can for sure expect the previous Blu-ray extras ported over and possibly new extras.  Stay tuned for an update.  The 4K UHD Blu-ray release is now available for preorder over at Amazon.  Below you can see the packaging which includes a fold-out of the original theatrical movie poster.

1989 comedy Major League is coming to 4K in April

The 1989 comedy “Major League” is coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray on April 2nd via Paramount Home Entertainment, according to retailers.  The film, celebrating its 35th anniversary this year (as noted on the packaging above), was written & directed by David S. Ward and starred Charlie Sheen, Tom Berenger, Corbin Bernsen, Margaret Whitton, James Gammon, Wesley Snipes, Rene Russo, Charles Cyphers, Chelcie Ross, Dennis Haysbert, Andy Romano, and Bob Uecker.

UPDATE:  The tech specs for the release include a 2160p video presentation in the correct 1.85:1 aspect ratio with HDR10 form of high dynamic range and lossless Dolby TrueHD 5.1 surround sound.  The release will include a digital code (copy) of the film.  You can now find the 4K UHD Blu-ray available for preorder at Amazon and Walmart.  It’s most certainly worth noting that there will also be a limited edition 4K UHD Blu-ray SteelBook release (pictured below) that is available for preorder over at Amazon as well.  The bonus materials for both releases include all of the previous Blu-ray extras on the 4K disc. Beverly Hills Cop 3 Movie Collection on 4K February

The “Beverly Hills Cop” franchise will be celebrating its 40th anniversary this year with a “Beverly Hills Cop 3 Movie Collection” on 4K UHD Blu-ray as well as an individual 4K release of “Beverly Hills Cop III” (1994) both on February 20th via Paramount Home Entertainment.  The 1994 sequel, “Beverly Hills Cop III” was directed by John Landis, and starred Eddie Murphy, Jon Tenney, Joey Travolta, Judge Reinhold, Hector Elizondo, and Gilbert R. Hill.  The ‘3 Movie Collection’ will also include “Beverly Hills Cop” (1984) and “Beverly Hills Cop II” (1987) as well as the third film.

The tech specs for the box set and individual release are all the same except for the aspect ratio, which varies.  Beverly Hills Cop III will be presented in the 1.85:1 aspect ratio with Dolby Vision and HDR10 forms of high dynamic range and DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 lossless surround sound.  The release(s) will come as a “combo pack” meaning that the Blu-ray counterpart of the film is included along with a digital copy.  No bonus materials will be included for the third film, as has been the case with all previous home video releases of it.  You can find “Beverly Hills Cop III” and the “Beverly Hills Cop 3 Movie Collection” on 4K UHD Blu-ray both available for preorder over at Amazon.  Stay tuned for when they are listed on other retailers.

1984 film Footloose with Kevin Bacon on 4K in February

The 1984 film “Footloose” (celebrating its 40th anniversary) will be coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray on February 13th, 2024 via Paramount Home Entertainment.  There will be a standard 4K release (pictured above) as well as a 4K UHD Blu-ray SteelBook with a collectible poster (pictured below) available.  Neither version is yet available for preorder at any retailers but stay tuned for an update.  The film was directed by Herbert Ross and starred Kevin Bacon, Lori Singer, John Lithgow, Dianne Wiest, Chris Penn, and Sarah Jessica Parker.

The tech specs for the release include a 2160p video presentation in the 1.85:1 aspect ratio with HDR10 and Dolby Vision forms of high dynamic range as well as DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 lossless surround sound.  The release(s) will come in the form of a “combo pack” meaning that it will include its Blu-ray counterpart as well as a digital code (copy) of the film.  The Blu-ray disc will feature all of the previously released extras.

48 Hrs. and Another 48 Hrs. on 4K in December

The film “48 Hrs.” (1982) and its sequel “Another 48 Hrs.” (1990) are both coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray on December 6th via Paramount Home Entertainment, according to retailers.  “48 Hrs.” and “Another 48 Hrs.” were both directed by Walter Hill, and starred Eddie Murphy and Nick Nolte.  Also, a “48 Hrs. 2-Movie Collection” (pictured above) with both films will be coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray on the same day, December 6th.

These transfers for each film were approved by the director Walter Hill.  The tech specs for the releases include 2160p video presentations in the 1.85:1 aspect ratio with HDR10 and Dolby Vision forms of high dynamic range.  It’s likely that both films will receive Dolby TrueHD 5.1 lossless sound mixes, although it has not been confirmed.  All of these releases will come in the form of a “combo pack” with the Blu-ray Disc counterpart(s) included along with a digital copy (code) for each film.  Bonus materials for the films have not yet been detailed but should be identical to the previous Paramount Presents Blu-ray releases.
