The 2000 film What Lies Beneath on 4K in May

The 2000 film What Lies Beneath will be released on 4K UHD Blu-ray on May 6th via Scream Factory. This is the “25th Anniversary Edition.” Robert Zemeckis directed the film which starred Harrison Ford, Michelle Pfeiffer, Katharine Towne, Miranda Otto, and James Remar.

The movie has received a new 4K transfer from the original 35mm camera negative. The tech specs for the 4K include a 2160p video presentation in the 2.39:1 aspect ratio with Dolby Vision (or HDR10) and DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 and 2.0 stereo sound. This release will come as a “combo pack” with its Blu-ray Disc counterpart included. Tech specs for the Blu-ray include a 1080p HD video presentation the 2.39:1 aspect ratio and DTS-HD MA 5.1 and 2.0 stereo sound.

The 4K UHD Blu-ray is now available for preorder at Amazon. Consumers also can preorder directly via the ShoutFactory.com website, with a bonus poster. The bonus materials to be included with the release are listed below sorted by disc.

Columbia Classics Collection Vol. 5 on 4K in October

The “Columbia Classics 4K Ultra HD Collection: Volume 5” is officially coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray on October 1st via Sony Pictures Home Entertainment. The set includes the following six Columbia Pictures films:

  • “All The King’s Men” (1949)
  • “On the Waterfront” (1954)
  • “A Man for All Seasons” (1966)
  • “Tootsie” (1982)
  • “The Age of Innocence” (1993)
  • “Little Women” (2019)

“All of the King’s Men” was directed by Robert Rossen and starred Broderick Crawford, John Ireland, Joanne Dru, John Derek, Mercedes McCambridge, and Shepperd Strudwick. “On the Waterfront” was directed by Elia Kazan, and starred Marlon Brando, Karl Malden, Lee J. Cobb, Rod Steiger, Pat Henning, and Leif Erickson. “A Man for All Seasons” was directed by Fred Zinnemann, and starred Paul Scofield, Wendy Hiller, Leo McKern, Robert Shaw, Orson Welles, Susannah York, Nigel Davenport, and John Hurt. “Tootsie” was directed by Sydney Pollack, and starred Dustin Hoffman, Jessica Lange, Teri Garr, Dabney Coleman, Charles Durning, Bill Murray, Geena Davis, and George Gaynes. “The Age of Innocence” was directed by Martin Scorsese, and starred Daniel Day-Lewis, Michelle Pfeiffer, Winona Ryder, Richard E. Grant, Geraldine Chaplin, and Stuart Wilson. “Little Women” was directed by Greta Gerwig, and starred Saoirse Ronan, Emma Watson, Florence Pugh, Eliza Scanlen, Laura Dern, Timothée Chalamet, Tracy Letts, James Norton, Louis Garrel, and Bob Odenkirk. Below is a glimpse at the packaging opened up with the discs (on the left & right sides) and the included hardbound booklet.

Each film in the set will come as a “combo pack” with its Blu-ray Disc counterpart included along with a digital copy. All six films will be presented in 2160p resolution with high dynamic range and lossless sound. The exact technical specifications of each vary from film to film, so you’ll want to check down further below after the break for the full details. The release will include limited edition slipcovers for each of the six films, a hardbound 80-page booklet, and an exclusive 4K bonus disc. That 4K UHD Blu-ray Bonus Disc contains the following rare 1920s feature films from the Columbia Pictures library:

  • “The Belle of Broadway” (1926) – presented in HD resolution
  • “Ladies of Leisure” (1926) – presented in 4K resolution (SDR)
  • “The Desert Bride” (1928) – presented in 4K resolution (SDR)
  • “The Scarlet Lady” (1928) – presented in 4K resolution (SDR)

2007 Matthew Vaughn film Stardust on 4K in September

The 2007 film Stardust is coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray in SteelBook on September 24th via Paramount Home Entertainment. The film, directed by Matthew Vaughn & based on the Neil Gaiman novel, included a cast of Claire Danes, Charlie Cox, Michelle Pfeiffer, Robert De Niro, Peter O’Toole, Rupert Everett, Ricky Gervais, and Henry Cavill, with the voice talent of Ian McKellen (as the narrator).

The release will come as a “combo pack” with its Blu-ray Disc counterpart and a digital copy included. The tech specs and bonus materials for the 4K UHD Blu-ray SteelBook release have yet to be announced but stay tuned for an update. The 2000 film What Lies Beneath is coming to Blu-ray Disc on October 5th, via Paramount Home Entertainment. This will be the very first time that the film has been available on Blu-ray in North America. The film, directed by Robert Zemeckis, starred Harrison Ford, Michelle Pfeiffer, James Remar, Miranda Otto, Katharine Towne, Ray Baker, Wendy Crewson, and Diana Scarwid.

The tech specs for the Blu-ray include a 1080p HD video presentation in the 2.39:1 aspect ratio and Dolby TrueHD 5.1 lossless surround sound. The release should include all of the previous DVD extras ported over as bonus materials. You can now find the Blu-ray available for preorder over at Amazon.

French Exit starring Michelle Pfeiffer on Blu-ray in June

The 2021 film “French Exit” is officially coming to Blu-ray Disc on June 15 via Sony Pictures Home Entertainment. The film, directed by Azazel Jacobs, stars Michelle PfeifferLucas Hedges, Valerie Mahaffey, Imogen Poots, Susan Coyne, Danielle MacDonald, Isaach de Bankolé, and Tracy Letts. The tech specs for the Blu-ray release include a 1080p HD video presentation in the 2.39:1 aspect ratio with DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 lossless surround sound. You can find the Blu-ray now listed with a placeholder page over at Amazon, although it’s not yet functional as a preorder. So, stay tuned for an update on that. Maleficent: Mistress of Evil on 4K and Blu-ray

The 2019 sequel “Maleficent: Mistress of Evil” seems to be coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray and Blu-ray Disc on January 14th, 2020 via Disney, according to retailers. The film, directed by Joachim Rønning, stars Angelina JolieElle Fanning, Michelle Pfeiffer, Harris DickinsonSam Riley, Robert Lindsay, and Chiwetel Ejiofor. Tech specs and bonus materials for the release have not yet been detailed but stay tuned for an update on that. The release will come in the form of a “combo pack” with the 4K getting a Blu-ray counterpart (with bonus materials), the Blu-ray getting a DVD counterpart, and both getting a digital code (copy) of the film. You can’t yet find the 4K UHD Blu-ray or Blu-ray listed on Amazon, but stay tuned for an update on that. In the meantime, however, you can find both the 4K and Blu-ray listed over at retailers Best Buy, Target, and Walmart. It’s worth noting that retailer Best Buy will also be getting an exclusive 4K UHD Blu-ray SteelBook of the film, which is now available for preorder (pictured below). Scarface 1983 with Pacino on 4K in October

The 1983 Brian De Palma directed film Scarface starring Al Pacino is officially coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray in a “Gold Edition” on October 15th via Universal. The film’s screenplay was written by Oliver Stone and it co-starred Michelle PfeifferSteven Bauer, Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio, and Robert Loggia. Tech specs for the 4K include 2160p video in the 2.35:1 aspect ratio in HDR10 form of High Dynamic Range and DTS:X sound. The release will come in the form of “combo pack” with a Blu-ray and digital copy (code) of the film included. UPDATE: Amazon has now added back a pre-order listing for the 4K UHD Blu-ray.
