Tarantino’s Kill Bill Vol. 1 & 2 on 4K in January

The 2003 and 2004 films “Kill Bill: Vol. 1” and “Kill Bill: Vol. 2” will get standard 4K UHD Blu-ray releases (individually) on January 21st via Lionsgate. The films, both written & directed by Quentin Tarantino, starred Uma Thurman, Lucy Lui, Vivica A. Fox, Michael Madsen, Daryl Hannah, and David Carradine. It’s worth noting that both of these films are “Certified Fresh” based on critic reviews at Rotten Tomatoes.

The tech specs for the 4K releases include a 2160p video presentation in the 2.40:1 aspect ratio with Dolby Vision (or HDR10) form of high dynamic range with DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 lossless surround sound, on a BD-100 disc. Each release will come as a “combo pack” with its Blu-ray Disc counterpart and a digital copy of the film included. You can now find the 4K UHD Blu-ray of “Kill Bill: Vol. 1” and “Kill Bill: Vol. 2” available for preorder at Amazon. The bonus materials set to be included with these releases are listed below.

The 1995 film Species is arriving on 4K in July

The 1995 modern cult-classic sci-fi (science fiction) film Species is coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray in a “Collector’s Edition” on July 26th via Scream Factory (Shout! Factory), according to retailers.  The film, directed by Roger Donaldson, starred Natasha Henstridge, Ben Kingsley, Michael Madsen, Alfred Molina, Forest Whitaker, and Michelle Williams.

The tech specs and bonus materials for the release have not yet been detailed, but stay tuned for any update(s).  It is known that the release will come in the form of a “combo pack” with its Blu-ray Disc counterpart included.  You can now find the 4K UHD Blu-ray available for preorder over at Amazon.

Oliver Stone film The Doors comes to 4K July 23rd

The 1991 Oliver Stone directed film The Doors starring Val Kilmer is coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray on July 23rd via Lionsgate, according to an early alert to retailers. The film co-starred Meg Ryan, Kyle MacLachlan, Frank Whaley, Kevin Dillon, Michael Wincott, and Michael Madsen. There are no details yet regarding the tech specs on this 4K release. It is however known that the release will come in the form of a “combo pack” with a Blu-ray and a digital copy of the film. Bonus materials set to be included on the release have not yet been detailed. UPDATE: The 4K UHD Blu-ray is now available for pre-order over at Amazon and at retailer Best Buy. Tech specs for the release include 2160p video with Dolby Vision and HDR10 forms of High Dynamic Range and Dolby Atmos sound. The film has been remastered from the original negative that was scanned at 4K resolution. The color grading was overseen by the film’s director Oliver Stone. Bonus materials set to be included on the release are listed below.

1984 film “The Natural” starring Robert Redford comes to 4K in June

The 1984 Barry Levinson directed film The Natural starring Robert Redford is coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray in a 35th Anniversary release on June 4th, via Sony. The film, nominated for 4 Oscars, featured a supporting cast including Robert DuvallGlenn Close, Kim Basinger, Wilford Brimley, Barbara Hershey, Robert Prosky, Richard FarnsworthJoe Don Baker, and Michael Madsen. This 35th Anniversary 4K release will include both the Theatrical (138 minutes) and Director’s Cut (144 minutes) of the film – both on the 4K disc.

Tech specs for the 4K release have not yet been fully detailed it will come with HDR (presumably in the HDR10 variety) and Dolby Atmos sound, as well as the original stereo and 5.1 tracks (for the theatrical cut). The release will come in form of a “combo pack” with a Blu-ray Disc and a digital copy of the film included.
