The 1996 film “The Ghost and the Darkness“ will be officially coming to Blu-ray Disc on May 10th via Scream Factory (Shout! Factory). The film, directed by Stephen Hopkins, starred Michael Douglas, Val Kilmer, Tom Wilkinson, Bernard Hill, and Emily Mortimer.
The tech specs for the release include a 1080p HD video presentation in the original 2.39:1 aspect ratio and likely a lossless sound mix (or mixes), although not yet specified to any configuration(s). The bonus materials are currently “in progress” and will be announced at a later time. So, stay tuned for an update on that. You can now find the Blu-ray Disc available to preorder over at Amazon or directly via the ShoutFactory.com website.

The 2000 film “Wonder Boys” starring Michael Douglas is officially coming to Blu-ray Disc, for the very first time, on November 24th via Paramount. The film, directed by Curtis Hanson, co-starred Tobey Maguire, Frances McDormand, Robert Downey Jr., Katie Holmes, and the late Rip Torn. The tech specs for the Blu-ray include a 1080p HD presentation in the original 2.35:1 aspect ratio and DTS-HD Master Audio 5.0 sound. This last bit, regarding the sound configuration, comes as an improvement over the previous 2000 DVD which only contained a Dolby Digital 5.0 sound mix, oddly enough. Yes, this never has received a 5.1 surround mix with the subwoofer channel. That’s not a misprint or typo. You can now find this Blu-ray available for preorder over at Amazon. The release will include the following bonus materials, ported over from the previously mentioned DVD:
- Cast & Crew Interviews
- Songs of Wonder Boys with Commentary by Curtis Hanson
- “Things Have Changed” Bob Dylan Music Video
It should be noted that this release will come in the form of a MOD (manufactured-on-demand) BD-ROM Blu-ray Disc if you order it via Amazon. However, if you find this on store shelves elsewhere or online elsewhere, it will be a pressed Blu-ray Disc. I was given this heads-up regarding the release. You can find a quote regarding that below.
“It’s a BD-ROM now on Amazon MOD and pressed everywhere else.”
The 2015 Marvel Studios film “Ant-Man“ starring Paul Rudd appears to be coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray on October 1st via Marvel (Disney), according to multiple retailer listings. The film, part of the “Marvel Cinematic Universe” and directed by Peyton Reed, co-starred Michael Douglas, Corey Stoll, Evangeline Lilly, Bobby Cannavale, Judy Greer, and Michael Peña. Tech specs for the 4K release include 2160p video in the 1.85:1 aspect ratio with HDR10 form of High Dynamic Range and Dolby Atmos sound. The release will come in the form of a “combo pack” with the Blu-ray and a digital code (copy) of the film included. You can find the 4K UHD Blu-ray now available for pre-order over at Amazon and at Best Buy. Speaking of retailer Best Buy, they will be getting a 4K Exclusive Steelbook release of the film (pictured below) which is available for pre-order as well.
The bonus materials set to be included on the release will be identical to those found on the previous Blu-ray, as they actually use that disc for the extras. No new extras will be included on this 4K release.
