The 1987 film Harry and the Hendersons on 4K in April

The 1987 film “Harry and the Hendersons” is coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray on May 28th via KL Studio Classics [Kino Lorber].


William Dear co-wrote the screenplay and directed the movie. It starred John Lithgow and Melinda Dillon. The supporting cast included Don Ameche, David Suchet, Margaret Langrick, Joshua Rudoy, Kevin Peter Hall, Lainie Kazan, and M. Emmet Walsh.

The movie has received a new 4K scan from the original camera negative. Tech specs for the 4K UHD Blu-ray include a 2160p video presentation in a 1.85:1 aspect ratio, Dolby Vision (HDR10 compatible) high dynamic range, lossless DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 and 2.0 stereo sound, and a BD-100 disc. The release will come as a 2-disc “combo pack” with its Blu-ray Disc counterpart included. That Blu-ray will also feature the new 4K scan.

The 4K UHD Blu-ray is not yet available for preorder at Amazon or any other retailers, but stay tuned. In the meantime, you can preorder the 4K UHD Blu-ray directly via Kino Lorber’s website. The bonus materials included on the release are listed below, sorted by disc.

Robert Redford film Ordinary People on Blu-ray March

The 1980 Academy Award-winning film “Ordinary People“ will be coming to Blu-ray Disc as part of the Paramount Presents line on March 29th, via Paramount Home Entertainment. This release will be spine number 30 in the Paramount Presentes line of Blu-ray titles. The film, directed by Robert Redford, starred Donald Sutherland, Mary Tyler Moore, Timothy Hutton, Judd Hirsch, and M. Emmet Walsh. This movie won 4 “Oscars” (Academy Awards), including “Best Picture“, and was nominated for 6 Oscars total.

The movie has been “remastered from a new 4K film transfer overseen by Redford” according to a statement from the studio.  The tech specs for the release have not yet been detailed but stay tuned for a later update.  UPDATED: You can now find the Paramount Presents Blu-ray available for preorder over at Amazon.

The release will come with the typical fold-out original poster art on the slipcover as well as tasteful photos from the film also included throughout the package design (pictured below).

The bonus materials feature “new interviews with Hutton and Judith Guest, author of the novel upon which the movie was based.” Those extras set to be included with the release are listed below.

“The Jerk” 40th Anniversary Edition Blu-ray release pushed back to December

The 1979 Carl Reiner directed comedy “The Jerk“ starring Steve Martin is getting a “40th Anniversary Edition” Blu-ray Disc release later this year via Shout Select, but the release date has now changed to December 18th. Also, as of today we have some details regarding the release. Although tech specs have not yet been fully detailed, it is now known that this will come from a new remastered 2K video transfer. Stay tuned for further details regarding tech specs. The title is available for PRE-ORDER over at Amazon and directly via Shout! Factory. Bonus materials set to be included on the release are listed below.

“The Critters Collection” from Scream Factory coming November gets detailed

The upcoming release of “The Critters Collection“ coming to Blu-ray Disc in a box set on November 27th via Scream Factory has officially been detailed. The release will contain the four films “Critters” (1986), “Critters 2: The Main Course” (1988), “Critters 3” (1991), and “Critters 4” (1992), spanning across a 4-disc set. Tech specs for the release have not been fully detailed, but we do know that the first two films have received new 2K scans from the original film elements. Stay tuned for further info regarding the tech specs for the films. The set is available for PRE-ORDER now over at Amazon. “The Jerk” starring Steve Martin gets “40th Anniversary” Blu-ray in December

The 1979 Carl Reiner directed comedy classic “The Jerk” starring Steve Martin is going to be getting a Shout Select label release in the form of “The Jerk: 40th Anniversary Edition“ on Blu-ray Disc, coming December 18th. The official cover art has just recently been unveiled (as pictured above). “The Jerk” co-starred Bernadette Peters, Catlin Adams, Mabel King, Jackie Mason, and M. Emmet Walsh. The upcoming “40th Anniversary” Blu-ray is now available for PRE-ORDER over at Amazon.

It’s worth noting that this news (that the film was going to get re-released) was originally announced by Shout! Factory at this year’s SDCC (San Diego Comic-Con), but at that time we didn’t have a release date, nor any official artwork – as we do now.

UPDATE: This title has been pushed back roughly a month from its original release date, as previously reported here. An additional news story has since been posted with more details about this upcoming release.
