Uncut Gems on 4K and Blu-ray via Criterion November

The 2019 Safdie Brothers film “Uncut Gems” is officially getting both 4K UHD Blu-ray and Blu-ray Disc releases on November 23rd via The Criterion Collection. The film, co-directed & co-written by Benny Safdie and Josh Safdie, starred Adam Sandler, LaKeith Stanfield, Idina Menzel, Julia Fox, Eric Bogosian, Judd Hirsch, Kevin Garnett, and The Weeknd.

This has received a new 4K scan [transfer] that was approved by the filmmakers (Josh and Benny Safdie). The tech specs for the 4K UHD Blu-ray release include a 2160p video presentation in the 2.39:1 aspect ratio with HDR10 and Dolby Vision forms of high dynamic range and Dolby Atmos sound. The tech specs for the Blu-ray include a 1080p HD video presentation in the 2.39:1 aspect ratio and Dolby Atmos sound. The 4K UHD Blu-ray set will come as a “combo pack” meaning that it will include its Blu-ray Disc counterpart. You can now find both The Criterion Collection 4K UHD Blu-ray and the Blu-ray releases of the film available for preorder over at Amazon. 2021 film Judas and the Black Messiah on Blu-ray in May

The Academy Award-nominated 2021 film “Judas and the Black Messiah” is officially coming to Blu-ray Disc on May 4th via Warner Bros. Home Entertainment. The film, directed by Shaka King, stars Daniel Kaluuya, LaKeith Stanfield, Jesse Plemons, Dominique Fishback, Ashton Sanders, and Martin Sheen. It’s worth noting, at the time of writing this, that this film is “Certified Fresh” over at Rotten Tomatoes. The tech specs for the film on Blu-ray include a 1080p HD presentation in the 2.39:1 aspect ratio with DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 lossless surround sound. The release will come with a digital code (copy) of the film. UPDATE: You can now find the Blu-ray available for preorder over at Amazon, and expect that price to drop. However, remember that Amazon offers a “Pre-order Price Guarantee” which should have you covered.

The bonus materials set to be included with this release are listed below.

  • “Fred Hampton for the People” – The filmmakers and cast discuss why telling Chairman Fred Hampton’s story is more important now than ever before.

EDITORIAL NOTE: Sadly, no there will not be a 4K physical release here in the United States of the film, it would appear. That’s a shame, as it aired on HBOMax earlier this year in 4K UHD with HDR10 and Dolby Vision as well as with Dolby Atmos sound. Maybe, if this film takes home some “Oscars” in the 6 categories it is nominated for, namely Best Picture, later this year, it might receive a 4K UHD Blu-ray release with all of that mentioned. One would speculate?

The film, written & directed by Rian Johnson, stars Daniel Craig, Chris Evans, Ana de Armas, Jamie Lee Curtis, Michael Shannon, Don Johnson, Toni Collette, LaKeith Stanfield, and Christopher Plummer. The film has received a great reaction from both critics and filmgoers, in fact, at the time of writing this, it carries a “Certified Fresh” rating over at Rotten Tomatoes. Tech specs for the 4K UHD Blu-ray include video in the 1.85:1 aspect ratio in HDR10 and Dolby Vision forms of High Dynamic Range with Dolby Atmos sound. The 2018 Boots Riley written and directed film “Sorry to Bother You“  starring Lakeith Stanfield is coming to Blu-ray Disc on October 23rd via Fox Home Entertainment. The film, at time of writing this, is “Certified Fresh” over at Rotten Tomatoes where its carrying a 93% rating based on the critics’ reviews. This comedy co-stars Tessa Thompson, Jermaine Fowler, Omari Hardwick, Terry Crews, Danny Glover, Steven Yeun, Armie Hammer, Forest Whitaker, and also features the voices of David Cross, Patton Oswalt, and Lily James.

The film was written and directed by Christian Papierniak, and co-stars Alia Shawkat, Alex Russell, Haley Joel Osment, Carrie Coon, Lakeith Stanfield, Lauren Miller Rogen, and Annie Potts.
