The 1980 comedy Airplane! lands on 4K in December

The 1980 film “Airplane!“ is coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray on December 9th via Paramount Home Media Distribution. The movie was co-written and co-directed by Jim Abrahams, David Zucker, and Jerry Zucker. It starred Julie Hagerty, Robert Hays, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Peter Graves, Lloyd Bridges, Robert Stack, and Leslie Nielsen. It co-starred Lorna Patterson, Jonathan Banks, Frank Ashmore, Barbara Billingsley, and Stephen Stucker. It’s worth noting that the movie is celebrating its 45th anniversary this year.

The tech specs for the 4K UHD Blu-ray include a 2160p video presentation in a 1.78:1 aspect ratio with Dolby Vision (HDR10 compatible) high dynamic range and lossless DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 surround sound, on a BD-66 disc. The release will come as a 2-disc “combo pack” with its Blu-ray Disc counterpart included, as well as a digital copy of the film. EDITORIAL NOTE: This movie has previously been released on the 4K UHD Blu-ray format as a part of what was called “ZAZ: The Collection!,” released back in 2024. That box set has since gone OOP (out of print) and goes for crazy prices. You can find the other two films in that set are each coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray individually. First, on November 4th, “The Naked Gun: From the Files of Police Squad!“ comes to 4K UHD Blu-ray. Then, on December 9th, “Top Secret!“ will also come to 4K UHD Blu-ray. Those titles are both now available for preorder at Amazon.

Airplane II The Sequel on 4K in September

The 1982 film “Airplane II: The Sequel” is being released on 4K UHD Blu-ray and Special Edition Blu-ray on September 23rd via KL Studio Classics.

Ken Finkleman directed and co-wrote the film. It starred Robert Hays, Julie Hagerty, Lloyd Bridges, William Shatner, Peter Graves, Raymond Burr, and Chuck Connors. The cast also included Rip Torn, John Dehner, Chad Everett, Kent McCord, John Vernon, and Sonny Bono.

The movie has received a new master from a 4K scan of the 35mm original camera negative. The technical specifications for the 4K include a 2160p UHD visual presentation in a 1.85:1 aspect ratio with Dolby Vision and HDR10 forms of high dynamic range, on a BD-100 disc. Audio on both the 4K and Blu-ray will be presented in lossless DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 surround and 2.0 Stereo. The Blu-ray will include a 1080p HD video presentation in a 1.85:1 aspect ratio, on a BD-50 disc. The 4K release will come as a 2-disc “combo pack” with its Blu-ray counterpart included.

You cannot yet find the 4K UHD Blu-ray or the Special Edition Blu-ray available for preorder at Amazon, but stay tuned for an update. 2006 film She’s the Man with Amanda Bynes comes to Blu-ray

The 2006 romantic comedy film “She’s the Man” starring Amanda Bynes is officially coming to Blu-ray Disc for the very first time on March 2nd via Paramount. The film, directed by Andy Fickman, co-starred Channing Tatum, Laura Ramsey, Robert Hoffman, Alexandra Breckenridge, Julie Hagerty, David Cross, and Vinnie Jones. The tech specs for the release include a 1080p HD presentation and DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 surround sound. UPDATE: you can now find the upcoming Blu-ray available for preorder over at Amazon.

It’s most certainly worth noting that there will also be a “Girls Rule 3-Movie Collection” Blu-ray Disc release (pictured above) that includes this film along with “Mean Girls” (2004) and “Clueless” (1995) on the same date. That 3-movie collection Blu-ray set is not yet available for preorder either. The 3-movie collection and individual release will both come with a digital copy of the film.
