Project A and sequel are each coming to 4K in June

Jackie Chan directed both movies, with Sammo Hung [aka Sammo Kam-Bo Hung] co-directing the first. The first 1983 movie starred Jackie Chan, Sammo Hung, Biao Yuen, Dick Wei, Isabella Wong, Wai Wong, and Hoi-San Kwan. The 1987 sequel starred Jackie Chan, Maggie Cheung, Bill Tung, Carina Lau, David Lam, Ray Lui, and Rosamund Kwan.

“Project A” has received a 4K remaster of the Hong Kong Cut [106 minutes] from the original negatives and is presented in UHD (2160p) in its original 2.39:1 aspect ratio with Dolby Vision (HDR10 compatible). Also, there is a 4K remaster of the Extended Taiwanese Cut [115 minutes], from the original negatives, presented in UHD (2160p) in the original 2.39:1 aspect ratio. Both versions of the movie include Dolby Vision (HDR10 compatible) high dynamic range. Audio features Dolby Atmos in Cantonese & Mandarin-language options and lossless mono with newly translated subtitles and the English Mono Dub, featuring Mandarin Inserts during extended scenes in the Taiwanese Cut.

“Project A: Part II” has received a 4K remaster of the Hong Kong Cut [107 minutes] from the original negatives presented in UHD (2160p) in the original 2.39:1 aspect ratio with Dolby Vision (HDR10 compatible). Also, there is a 4K remaster of the Export Cut [98 minutes], from the original negatives, presented in UHD (2160p) in the original 2.39:1 aspect ratio with Dolby Vision (HDR10 compatible). Audio will feature Cantonese-language options in mono and Dolby Atmos, and Mandarin mono with newly translated subtitles [Hong Kong Cut]. As well as an English Mono Dub [Export Cut].

The 2016 sequel Kung Fu Panda 3 gets a 4K in March

There will also be a Kung Fu Panda 4-Movie Collection on 4K UHD Blu-ray (pictured above) set to be released on March 3rd, also from Universal Studios Home Entertainment. It’s now available for preorder at Amazon and GRUV. That set will not include Blu-ray Disc counterparts, only the 4K discs and digital codes. The full tech specs for the films feature a variety of 2.35:1 and 2.39:1 aspect ratios, each in a 2160p video presentation, with Dolby Vision (HDR10 compatible) and Dolby Atmos sound.

Karate Kid Legends on 4K and Blu-ray in August

The 2025 sequel “Karate Kid: Legends” is coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray, 4K SteelBook, and Blu-ray on August 26th via Sony Pictures Home Entertainment. Jonathan Entwistle directed the movie. It stars Jackie Chan, Ralph Macchio, Ben Wang, Joshua Jackson, Sadie Stanley, and Wyatt Oleff. It’s worth noting this film is “Verified Hot” based on audience ratings at Rotten Tomatoes.

The tech specs for the 4K include a 2160p video presentation in a 1.85:1 aspect ratio, accompanied by Dolby Vision or HDR10, and Dolby Atmos sound. Tech specs for the Blu-ray include a 1080p HD video presentation in a 1.85:1 aspect ratio and lossless DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 surround sound. The 4K release(s) will come as a “combo pack” with the Blu-ray Disc counterpart included. All versions (4K and Blu-ray) include a digital copy of the film, compatible with Movies Anywhere.

The 4K UHD Blu-ray, 4K SteelBook, and Blu-ray are also available for preorder at Walmart. Retailer Walmart will get an exclusive 4K UHD Blu-ray Collector’s Limited Edition with a skateboard (pictured below). This release appears to be limited to 510 units (in total), with each skateboard individually numbered and a wall mount kit.

There will also be an Amazon exclusive box set called The Karate Kid Ultimate Collection on 4K UHD Blu-ray coming August 26th. It’s now available for preorder. This will feature physical collectibles (pictured below) and all six films in the franchise. The 2008 film The Forbidden Kingdom” will be released on 4K UHD Blu-ray SteelBook via Lionsgate on February 25th as an Amazon exclusive. It was directed by Rob Minkoff and starred Jackie Chan and Jet Li.

The tech specs for the release include a 2160p 4K video presentation in the 2.40:1 aspect ratio with Dolby Vision (or HDR10) form of high dynamic range and Dolby Atmos sound. The release will come as a “combo pack,” including its Blu-ray Disc counterpart and a digital copy. Below you can find a better glimpse at the packaging for this release.

2008 animated film Kung Fu Panda on 4K in March

According to retailers, the 2008 DreamWorks CG animated film “Kung Fu Panda” is coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray on March 12th distributed by Universal Studios Home Entertainment.  The film, co-directed by John Stevenson & Mark Osborne, featured a voice cast that included Jack Black, Dustin Hoffman, Angelina Jolie, Ian McShane, Jackie Chan, Lucy Liu, Seth Rogen, David Cross, and James Hong.  It’s certainly worth noting that (over the years since its release) this film has maintained a “Certified Fresh” rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Tech specs for the release include a 2160p video presentation in the 2.35:1 aspect ratio with HDR10 form of high dynamic range and Dolby Atmos sound on a BD-66 disc.  The release will be a “combo pack” with its Blu-ray Disc counterpart included and a digital code (copy) of the film.  That Blu-ray is likely where you’ll get all of the original 2008 extras ported over.

Iron Mask with Schwarzenegger and Chan on Blu-ray

The 2019 Chinese film Iron Mask (AKA “Journey to China: The Mystery of Iron Mask”) co-starring Arnold Schwarzenegger and Jackie Chan is officially coming to Blu-ray Disc on November 24th via Lionsgate. The film, directed by Oleg Stepchenko, co-stars Jason Flemyng, Yao Xingtong, Anna Churina, Charles Dance, and the late great Rutger Hauer in one of his final screen performances. Tech specs for the Blu-ray release include a 1080p HD presentation in the 1.85:1 aspect ratio with DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 sound. The release will come with a digital code (copy) of the film included. UPDATE: You can now find this film on Blu-ray available for preorder over at Amazon.

Action Sci-Fi film “Bleeding Steel” with Jackie Chan comes to Blu-ray in August

The 2017 Leo Zhang directed Chinese action sci-fi film “Bleeding Steel” starring Jackie Chan is coming to Blu-ray Disc on August 21st via Lionsgate. Tech specs include full 1080p HD video in the 2.40:1 aspect ratio and DTS-HD 5.1 Master Audio sound, in a combination of both spoken English and Mandarin languages, with obvious subtitles included. The release will come with a Digital Copy of the film included. “Bleeding Steel” on Blu-ray is available now for PRE-ORDER over at Amazon. No bonus materials will be included on this release.
