The 1971 film “Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory” is officially coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray on June 29th via Warner Bros. Home Entertainment. The film, a screen adaptation that was written by the very same author of the book (Roald Dahl), was directed by Mel Stuart. It starred Gene Wilder, Jack Albertson, Peter Ostrum, Julie Dawn Cole, Roy Kinnear, Denise Nickerson, Leonard Stone, Paris Themmen, Nora Denney, Michael Bollner, Ursula Reit, Diana Sowle, and Günter Meisner. The tech specs for the 4K release include a 2160p video presentation in the 1.78:1 aspect ratio with HDR10 form of high dynamic range and DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 lossless surround sound. The release will come in the form of a “combo pack” meaning that you’ll get the Blu-ray Disc counterpart in addition to a digital code (copy) of the film. It is most certainly worth noting that this 1971 children’s film is still, at the time of writing this with a 90% rating, “Certified Fresh” over at Rotten Tomatoes.
UPDATE: This title was officially announced today by Warner. There’s a placeholder page now over at Amazon for the 4K UHD Blu-ray, but it’s not yet a functional preorder listing. Stay tuned to that page or here for an update. In the meantime, you can now find the 4K UHD Blu-ray already listed as available for preorder (with said release date) over at retailer Target and over at online retailers Deep Discount and HD Movie Source.
