Rob Zombie’s The Devil’s Rejects on 4K in October

The 2005 film The Devil’s Rejects will be coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray SteelBook as an Amazon exclusive on October 14th via Lionsgate. Rob Zombie wrote and directed the film. It starred Bill Moseley, Sid Haig, Sheri Moon Zombie, William Forsythe, Dave Sheridan, Danny Trejo, Brian Posehn, Priscilla Barnes, Geoffrey Lewis, Leslie Easterbrook, Ken Foree, and Matthew McGrory.

The tech specs for the 4K UHD Blu-ray include a 2160p video presentation in a 1.78:1 aspect ratio with Dolby Vision or HDR10 and DTS-HD HR 6.1 surround sound. The 3-disc release will come as a “combo pack” with both its Blu-ray counterpart (for the movie) and an additional Blu-ray for extras. A digital copy of the film will also be included. The 4K UHD Blu-ray SteelBook (pictured below in detail) is now available for preorder exclusively at Amazon.

Desperado is getting a standard 4K in March

The 1995 film “Desperado” will get an standard 4K UHD Blu-ray release on March 25th via Arrow Video. The film was written & directed by Robert Rodriguez. It starred Antonio Banderas, Salma Hayek, Steve Buscemi, Joaquim de Almeida, Cheech Marin, Quentin Tarantino, and Danny Trejo.

The movie has received a 4K restoration from the original camera negative by Sony Pictures. The 4K tech specs include a 2160p video presentation in the 1.85:1 aspect ratio with Dolby Vision (or HDR10) form of high dynamic range and DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 lossless surround and 2.0 Stereo sound.

NOTE: This is not the first time the film has been available on the 4K UHD Blu-ray format. It was previously released included in a 4K UHD Blu-ray SteelBook. It was also part of a Blu-ray box set with “The Mexico Trilogy” in August of 2024.

The 2000 film Reindeer Games on 4K in January

The 2000 film “Reindeer Games” will be released in two formats. It will be available on 4K UHD Blu-ray and Special Edition Blu-ray Disc. The release date is January 14th via KL Studio Classics. The film was directed by John Frankenheimer. It starred Ben AffleckCharlize Theron, and Gary Sinise. It also featured Dennis FarinaClarence Williams IIIIsaac Hayes, and Danny Trejo. Further roles included Donal Logue and James Frain.

The movie’s theatrical cut has received a new 4K master from a 4K scan of the 35mm original camera negative. The tech specs for the 4K release include a 2160p video presentation of the theatrical cut in the 2.35:1 aspect ratio with Dolby Vision and HDR10 forms of high dynamic range and DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 surround and lossless 2.0 sound, on a BD-100 disc. The tech specs for the Special Edition Blu-ray include a 1080p video presentation of the Director’s Cut in the 2.35:1 aspect ratio and DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 and 2.0 lossless sound, on a BD-50 disc. The Director’s Cut comes from an HD master. The 4K release will come as a “combo pack” with the Blu-ray Disc counterpart included.

It’s also worth noting that there will be a release of Robert Rodriguez‘s “Mexico Trilogy” as a 4K UHD Blu-ray / Blu-ray box set on the same day [8/27] via Arrow Video (pictured above). That includes the films “El Mariachi” (1992), “Desperado” (1995), and “Once Upon A Time in Mexico” (2003). Sadly, only the 1995 film “Desperado” will be presented in 4K resolution with the 1992 and 2003 films will only be receiving Blu-ray Disc treatment in 1080p HD video quality and uncompressed Stereo 2.0 and DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 lossless surround sound. You can find the “Mexico Trilogy” box set available for preorder directly via Arrow Video, on Amazon, and at retailer Walmart.

Dora and the Lost City of Gold comes to Blu-ray

The 2019 film Dora and the Lost City of Gold is officially coming to Blu-ray Disc on November 19th via Paramount. The film, directed by James Bobin and based on the Nickelodeon animated TV series (“Dora the Explorer”), stars Isabela MonerEugenio Derbez, Eva LongoriaMichael Peña, Jeff Wahlberg, Danny Trejo, and features the voice talent of Benicio Del Toro (as “Swiper”). It’s worth noting that, at time of writing, this film is “Certified Fresh” over at Rotten Tomatoes. Tech specs for the release have not yet been fully detailed but you can expect 1080p video likely in the 1.85:1 theatrical aspect ratio and a lossless surround mix. I’ve asked Paramount for more details and I will update this post if and when I get those. The release will come in the form of a “combo pack” with the DVD counterpart and a digital code (copy) of the film included. You can find the Blu-ray is now available for preorder over at Amazon. The 2019 Rob Zombie film “3 From Hell” is officially coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray and Blu-ray Disc on October 15th (just in time for Halloween) via Lionsgate. The film is a sequel to Zombie’s films “House of 1000 Corpses” (2003) and “The Devil’s Rejects” (2005). The cast includes Sheri Moon ZombieSid HaigBill Moseley, Emilio RiveraDanny Trejo, Clint Howard, Richard Brake, Daniel Roebuck, and Dee Wallace. Tech specs for the 4K release include 2160p video in the 1.85:1 aspect ratio with HDR10 form of High Dynamic Range and Dolby TrueHD 7.1 sound. The tech specs for the Blu-ray releases include 1080p HD in the 1.85:1 aspect ratio with the same Dolby TrueHD 7.1 sound mix. The releases will both come in the form of “combo pack” with the 4K getting the Blu-ray counterpart included, the Blu-ray getting a DVD, and a digital code (copy) of the film included with each.
