Coraline and ParaNorman on 4K this December
The Laika company‘s stop-motion animated films “Coraline” and “ParaNorman” will be coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray in both standard and SteelBook forms on December 13th via Shout! Factory. The films are briefly individually highlighted below.
“Coraline” from 2009 was directed by Henry Selick, best known for also directing “The Nightmare Before Christmas” (1993). Selick adapted the screenplay from a book written by Neil Gaiman. The film featured the voice talents of Dakota Fanning, Teri Hatcher, John Hodgman, Ian McShane, and Keith David. Tech specs for the 4K UHD Blu-ray include a 2160p video presentation in the 1.85:1 aspect ratio with HDR10 and Dolby Vision forms of high dynamic range and Dolby Atmos sound.
“ParaNorman” from 2012 was co-directed by Chris Butler and Sam Fell. Chris Butler also wrote the screenplay. The film featured the voice talents of Kodi Smit-McPhee, Tucker Albrizzi, Anna Kendrick, Casey Affleck, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Leslie Mann, Jeff Garlin, Alex Borstein, and John Goodman. Tech specs for the 4K UHD Blu-ray include a 2160p video presentation in the 2.35:1 aspect ratio with HDR10 and Dolby Vision forms of high dynamic range and Dolby Atmos sound.
Both of these 4K UHD Blu-ray SteelBook releases will come in the form of a “combo pack” meaning that they each will also include their Blu-ray Disc counterpart. The bonus materials will include all of the previous Blu-ray extras from the latest editions as well as a booklet [for each]. Also, the 4K UHD Blu-ray SteelBooks (pictured further above) each feature new hand-drawn artwork.

The 4K UHD Blu-ray SteelBooks for “Coraline” and “ParaNorman” are available for preorder over at retailer Best Buy. You can also order them directly via the Shout Factory! online store. Also, regarding these 4K releases, it’s now officially been stated:

2005 “War of the Worlds” arrives on 4K in May

The 2005 Steven Spielberg directed adaptation of “War of the Worlds“ starring Tom Cruise will arrive on 4K UHD Blu-ray come May 19th, via Paramount. It is known from the artwork (pictured above) that the release will come in the form of a “combo pack” with the Blu-ray and a digital code (copy) of the film.
UPDATE: The 4K UHD Blu-ray is now available for preorder over at Amazon. It is also worth noting that you can find the 4K UHD Blu-ray listed for preorder over at retailers Best Buy and Target. We do have now have a glimpse at the back of the package art, with the tech specs and bonus materials set to be included on the release. The 2019 Quentin Tarantino film “Once Upon A Time in Hollywood” is officially coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray and Blu-ray Disc on December 10th, via Sony. The film stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Brad Pitt, Margot Robbie, Emile Hirsch, Margaret Qualley, Timothy Olyphant, Julia Butters, Dakota Fanning, Bruce Dern, and Al Pacino. Tech specs for the 4K release include 2160p video in the 2.39:1 aspect ratio with HDR10 form of High Dynamic Range and DTS-HD 7.1 Master Audio sound. Tech specs for the Blu-ray include a 1080p video presentation in the 2.39:1 aspect ratio with DTS-HD 5.1 Master Audio sound. Both the standard 4K and Blu-ray versions will come in the form of a “combo pack” with the 4K getting the Blu-ray counterpart, the Bu-ray getting the DVD counterpart and each getting a digital code (copy) of the film. The film is now available to preorder on 4K UHD Blu-ray and Blu-ray Disc (in standard releases) over at Amazon. There will also be a very cool retro “Collector’s Edition“ of the film released on 4K UHD Blu-ray (pictured below) which will include the physical extras like a 45rpm vinyl single of “Rick Dalton” music, a collectible MAD Magazine from 1969, and a fictional movie poster (starring “Rick Dalton”) in very beautiful packaging. This collector’s edition is now available for preorder over at Amazon.

“Ocean’s 8” with Sandra Bullock comes to 4K UHD Blu-ray and Blu-ray in September
The 2018 Gary Ross directed film “Ocean’s 8” starring Sandra Bullock is coming to both 4K UHD Blu-ray and Blu-ray Disc on September 11th via Warner. It’s very worth noting that the film co-stars Cate Blanchett, Anne Hathaway, Mindy Kaling, Sarah Paulson, Awkwafina, Rihanna, and Helena Bonham Carter.
Tech specs for the 4K UHD Blu-ray include full 2160p 4K in both HDR10 and Dolby Vision forms of High Dynamic Range with Dolby Atmos sound. As far as for the Blu-ray Disc: it will receive full 1080p HD video and Dolby Atmos sound. Both releases will come in the form of a “combo pack” with the 4K getting a Blu-ray Disc, the Blu-ray getting a DVD, and both getting a Digital Copy of the film included. The 4K UHD Blu-ray and Blu-ray Disc are available for PRE-ORDER now over at Amazon.
