2011 film Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy on 4K in February

The 2011 film adaptation of “Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy” starring Gary Oldman is coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray on February 22nd, 2022 via KL Studio Classics. The film, directed by Tomas Alfredson, co-starred Benedict Cumberbatch, Colin Firth, Tom Hardy, Toby Jones, Mark Strong, and John Hurt. It is most certainly worth noting that, aside from its three Academy Award nominations, this film was originally very well-received by critics. In fact, still to this date and at the time of writing, this still carries a “Certified Fresh” rating over at Rotten Tomatoes. However, it doesn’t need that badge stuck on the cover art, now, does it? Classy, Kino Lorber.

The movie has received a new 4K restoration, quoted below.

“New HDR Restoration by StudioCanal from the Original 4K DSM – Approved by Cinematographer Hoyte Van Hoytema”

The tech specs for the 4K UHD Blu-ray release include a 2160p video presentation in the 2.35:1 aspect ratio with HDR10 form of high dynamic range along with a 5.1 lossless surround sound and 2.0 Stereo sound mix, in a lossless form as well, on a BD-100 disc. The 4K UHD Blu-ray will come in the form of a “combo pack” meaning that it will include its Blu-ray Disc counterpart. You can now find the 4K UHD Blu-ray available for preorder over at Amazon. You can also preorder the 4K UHD Blu-ray via Kino Lorber‘s website. The bonus materials set to be included with the releases, along with some details specific to the 4K release, are listed below.

Sam Mendes film “1917” on Blu-ray and 4K March

The 2019 Sam Mendes directed Academy Award-winning film “1917” is officially coming to Blu-ray Disc and 4K UHD Blu-ray on March 24th, via Universal. The film, nominated for a total of 10 and winner of 3 Oscars, starred Dean-Charles ChapmanGeorge MacKayDaniel Mays, Andrew Scott, Mark Strong, Colin Firth, Richard Madden, and Benedict Cumberbatch. This film was very well-received by both critics and moviegoers as, at the time of writing, it carries a “Certified Fresh” rating over at Rotten Tomatoes.

UPDATE: This title has, as of today (2/21), been officially announced by Universal. The tech specs for the 4K UHD Blu-ray includes 2160p video in the 2.39:1 aspect ratio, on a BD-100, in HDR10, HDR10+, and Dolby Vision forms of High Dynamic Range with Dolby Atmos sound. The tech specs for the Blu-ray include 1080p HD video in the 2.39:1 aspect ratio, on a BD-50, with Dolby Atmos sound. The bonus materials set to be included are listed below.

Disney’s “Mary Poppins Returns” comes to 4K UHD Blu-ray and Blu-ray in March

The 2018 sequel “Mary Poppins Returns” starring Emily Blunt is coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray and Blu-ray Disc on March 19th via Disney. The film, directed by Rob Marshall & nominated for 4 Oscars, co-stars Lin-Manuel MirandaBen Whishaw, Emily Mortimer, Julie Walters, Meryl Streep, and Colin Firth. Tech specs for the 4K include 2160p video in the 1.85:1 aspect ratio with HDR10 form of high dynamic range and DTS-HD 7.1 Master Audio sound. The tech specs for the Blu-ray include 1080p video in the 1.85:1 aspect ratio and DTS-HD 7.1 Master Audio sound. Each release will come in the form of a “combo pack” with the 4K getting a Blu-ray, the Blu-ray getting a DVD, and each getting a digital copy of the film included. The 4K UHD Blu-ray and Blu-ray are both available to pre-order over at Best Buy, but only the Blu-ray is currently listed on Amazon. Stay tuned for an update on that.
